  • Did you get the tarp from a builders store? They now doing cheap tarps of 3x5 and 5x7. Quite useful and lightweight.

  • @WHNorthcote This tarp was from Aldi I think. Yeah most diy/builder stores sell cheap tarps.

  • @NewbieCamper Cheers mate, I have seen the site. Good place to learn knots.

  • Great vid. Thanks. I need to work on my knots. Any good resource for this?

  • @rsab72 Cheers mate, I have some knot vids out there and there are many others by great youtubers

  • There are a lot of English language accents around the world. Where I live people can understand every word Boomhauer says.

  • @hunt458 Very true, haha love the King of the Hill reference. Boomhauer is awesome.

  • I cannot understand you

  • @sundogforlove Not my fault pal, thanks for the disrespect

  • useless in Canadian weather, I would want full enclosure. I dont know what purpose this type of set up provides.

  • @RoyalCompass A full enclosure leads to condensation, this is not for sleeping in this is for getting out the rain or sun.

  • @RoyalCompass

I understood you, and I'm American! Americans have like no accent XD

so you sounded like you have a heavy accent, what country are you from? :D

  • @PhantomOfPanton This guy has a Scottish accent! Are you retarded though? Every American state has its own accent. For example; Boston, New York, Louisianna, Texas, Minniesota, Wisconsin, Flordia, Illinois, etc... get real bud.

  • @RoyalCompass

    "Are you retarded though?"

No I am not aha, unnecessary insult/question.

  • @PhantomOfPanton You were unable to identify a Scottish accent and made a statement saying American's have no accent, I think you are retarded. Step up your brain game.

  • @RoyalCompass

I don't study accents or practice identifying them...lulz

I mean that Americans don't have one accent. Most people I know have a plain accent, you would have no idea what state they were from, just a boring accent.

  • Awesome video Colin, thank you very much my friend!

  • @UltimateSurvivalMan Thank you very much my good friend, take care

  • very nice bro i love it!!! but will you do the same in the winter time when snow can put to much weight on the tarp or will you have another setting? Daniel

  • @MyPoison77 Hi Daniel, Thanks my friend. For winter a steeper roof is better I believe.

  • I have a very nice tarp but I also keep and extra cheap blue tarp in my pack all the time just in case I find some one that might need it.

  • @badvoodoodaddy1 Nice one my friend, It always pays to be prepared

  • Hi colin,

nice set up. i´m planing to use the the same size of tarp for 2 person. Would you recommend the same set up or should i lower the height for an overnighter?

  • @ThePanTian Hi mate, well depending on the weather I would generally have a lower set up. If you had a fire then this design should work well :-)

  • If it was to rain, I'd have the horizontal part sloping as well. Good just the same; very neat

  • @mjcussen Thank you very much my friend, I appreciate you taking the time to watch

  • I actually learned something ! Thanks !

  • @KINGTRAILAPE Thanks for watching my friend.

  • Great use of the prussik knots. Nice rigging there. Thanks for the video pal. ~Wolf

  • @FatDaddy4Fun Thanks Wolf, much appreciated my friend

  • Hey Colin, thanks for the great video. This has sort of convinced me to ditch all those stupid plastic tents and just get a Tarp. What size would you recommend for fitting 2 persons and gear comfortably?

  • @maethorize Thanks my friend, well the tarp should on this video was 2m x 3m which would work for 2 people. Might be a bit of a squeeze though depending on the amount of gear. :-)

  • @ColinOutdoors so I think I will go with 3x3 or 3x4. Weight isn't really an issue for me, I usually pack light (which doesn't mean light items, but few :D) and I'm used to carrying heavy. Thanks for the advice!

  • @maethorize No probs my friend, have fun tarp camping :-)

  • I'm curious as to why you didn't just use the 25 foot length of cord as a ridge line under the tarp? You would get better support, and it's simpler. Good shelter non the less.

  • @mattamiller When it rains the water will travel down the cord so if its under the tarp it will potentially make the shelter wet inside, thanks for watching my friend

  • @ColinOutdoors oohh thanks for the answer! I didn't thought of that before, I thought the seams on my tarp was leaking!

  • @kamarulx No probs my friend, I usually seam seal my tarp every year or so as well

  • Nice and simple, but very effective. 5/5 thumbs up!

  • @TheNorseLegend Thank you so much my friend, I really appreciate your support

  • UG!, this my favorite tarp shelter, ugg ug.

  • @Wyndstarthedruid Thanks for watching :-)

  • thx for the vid man i love it simple and easy to under stand 5/5 and subed

  • @edwardcroft Thanks my friend

  • Colin are you on Facebook?

    john

  • @n9hxv1986 Hi John, not on Facebook, I have a hard enough time keeping up with YouTube lol

  • Very nice with the guidelines! Nice and tidy!

I live in the flatlands so I adopt the Peg&pole method! If ya haven't seen it check out offthegridsurvival's "8 x 10 Tarp Shelter - SHTF" video.

  • @theRITTZer Thanks mate, i'll check out that video you recommended

  • nice one

  • @bricardiff1969 Cheers mate

  • is this an 8 by 10 or an 8 by 6 tarp?

  • Its a 2 metre by 3 metre, so 6.5ft by 9.8ft, thanks for taking the time to view and comment
