  • hey.. sometimes it's best to talk slower to insure that the person you're talking to can understand more. hah saves you time from having to repeat

  • She did not sign too fast. Y'all just need to get more receptive practice. The fingerspelling was a little choppy; that's all. Try keeping your hand more in one place for the most part and that will make it more clear. Other than that she is an excellent signer. Leave her alone, for real.

  • So you took asl 1,2 & 3 at galluadet already? Or you want to?

  • Actually. Who gives a shit if she signs fast? It's like a kid rushing to play the piano as fast as he can to show off. You could slow down your signing so that deaf can understand you; your signing will be more clear if you do that.

TL;DR signing super uber fast doesn't make you good.

  • Why do sign so fast?

It does not make me want to learn

  • @Chevalier765 : I'm learning ASL right now and I'm a slow signer. its ok to start slow but its like learning any other language. She signs the same speed my sister does and i still want to learn.

  • I'm a coda and damn wdh did you just say? lol

  • I wish people put the text up so that people learning asl could understand :) it would be a fun study source

  • I agree, you REALLY need pan back with the camera so we can SEE your entire signing space. Your hands left the screen a lot. And WHERE'S THE FIRE??????? Slow down!!!

  • your signing space is cut off and why are you going so fast?

  • uh shes not going that fast and you just need to learn

or maybe its just because im deaf and i know it better

  • its good to practice , and yeh i know mouthing is hard habit to break. Im learning sign too and i know that how i learned how to stop mouthing is to practice with water in my mouth so that if i open my mouth ( im appropriately) id spill water down my front. Its knda stupid i know but it helped m alot.

  • Just who decided that mouthing is bad? I'm not mean, I actually want to know where that comes from.

  • It's not, it can just be confusing sometimes.

  • wow!! I love signing, I wish I can finger spell as fast as you some day!! lol

  • Looks good. I know you didn't do this so other people could practice reading it, but if you're gonna go that fast, you might need a webcam with a better frame rate.

  • Hi, although your speed is fast, I've seen faster. Just watch gnarlydork sign. The camera angle leaves no room to sign outside the usual sign box and yet your hands repeatedly go outside the sign box. That was distracting. Lastly, in the Deaf community where I'm learning, mouthing is a bad habbit. I put it in the same catagory as knawing on a big wad of gum while you are talking. Thanks for sharing your video.

  • im deaf and mouthing the words is a better way for people that arent deaf to understand what your saying

  • Thank you. I agree.

  • Pffft, the person below needs to stop the sarcasm. I think you did nice ^__^, a lot better (and faster) than me.

  • WHY DON'T YOU GO A LITTLE FASTER some of us are beginners trying to learn, uh duh!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I was just practicing; I didn't know people would watch the video besides on my blog.

  • I'm sorry I sometimes get very frustrated trying to sharpen my receptive skills, sometimes I feel like maybe I should just forget trying to learn asl. I am sorry I left that nasty comment

  • @legs2hvn LOL! The first time I watched her sign a few weeks ago in this video it really annoyed me. And your comment really made me laugh. Now that I have learned more I understand a little more of this video. I guess its good to learn from when you have already learned a little bit more, right? :-) hopefully the same fore you and you start 2 get it more too! I'll practice with you- skype- cellardoor367

  • wow fast

  • Your signing is decent and the speed is not a problem, except that you forget to breathe and it seems like you have practiced that particular anecdote many times before getting in front of the camera. I think you have a lot of potential as a signer, but you do need to focus on conversational etiquette rather than just signing. Pretend you are talking to someone...Keep up the practice!

  • you mouth alot, idk if its wrong but my asl teacher doesn't let us

  • its not bad theres a deaf girl at my school who mouths a lot of words and so does my asl teacher

  • too stiff. you gotta loosen up.

  • wow... that is definitely fast... honest, most deaf people not able to read it... not people i know. i sign fast also, and people tell me to slow down alot (yes, deaf people)

  • i dont think she is TOO fast.. it make sense eastern coast people use fingerspelling alot more than western coast people fyi. i understand her clear, no problem. but she need more pratice to make it more smooth. she seem nervous thats why she is signing lil bit fast. if she is confident then it will be better. thats all!

  • I don't think she signs too fast. My deaf best friend signs that fast and she was taught ASL as a baby.

  • To clarify, the video has not been altered to increase the speed. As you can see someone (paramedichk) re-wrote a transcript of the dialog almost totally correctly, so it can be read! I was always told I talked too fast during oral exams in spanish class, perhaps the equivalent is true for me and signing, too!

  • This video has been altered to increase the speed. No one can read it because it is faster than the original recording speed. WHY?!

  • Waaayyyy to fast for me.

  • I want to learn... any advice? Also, how does a person handle signing if one hand/wrist is bad?

  • I have seen deaf people who sign with a old atificial hand yeah the one that only had two hooks on it! he use body language and face gestures to communicat. AMAZING!!

  • you did a great job signing..but slow down...its not a contest, and I promise you won't offend anyone if you do! :-D SMILE!

  • Thanks! I knew I was missing something. I just signed up for ASL 2, hopefully it will help. I enjoyed your other videos as well, thanks for posting them. -H

  • You are so lucky you got to take your classes at Gallaudet. Finger spelling was a bit fast for me... but I thought the whole thing was great

  • Very fluent, pls correct me if I'm wrong. "My name Maria Delman, born 84 NYC. Now live in NYC. Go to Cornell University. Major psychiatry,English, minor writing. Mom, Dad,1 brother,0 sister. Mom kindergarten teacher. Dad Rugby player. Parents now divorced. Brother engineer. His wife Sarah teacher. I love ASL. Think ASL is a beautiful language. I took ASL 1,2,3 at Gallaudet Univ. Want to learn more ASL but it's hard because I'm busy. May be future. See you. Thank you"

  • haha your finger spelling is a blur to me....but you are very good and I hope you stick with it...I am sooo rusty its not funny

  • woww you sign really fast haha but it was good! better than me at least lol keep it up :)

  • hi! I took ASL in high school, i tried to figure out what you were saying, but no luck. I think at the end i saw you sign beautiful. But anyways great job, i just wished i knew what you had said.

    ~Nicole

  • Great job. Very clear, but too fast. Fast is fine, but do you talk that fast? I doubt it...slow down and enjoy what you're saying...

  • This is really nice! My only advice is to either make your signing space smaller or move farther away from the camera. Great job!

  • I suck too much to see all of what your saying but still good

  • that's where i want to go after i graduate high school!! i'm thinking about being an interpreter...you sign really clearly and beautifully too!

  • great job! keep it up! =]

  • You really did a great job!

  • I wish I knew ASL. Can you tell me what she said? Also, can you tell me the difference between Signed English, ASL, and something called PSE? Thanks in advance.

  • i think PSE is pigeon sign language, its like ASL but you talk as if you would say it ASL: want that eat Pigeon:i want to eat that (i think)

  • You learned ASL at Gally, you should continue! That's an education worth keeping.
