  • Install this shit on somone's computer that'll come to you to "fix it" for cash!

  • omg i just stole this laptop and it has anti theft, i better just take it back. or i could smash it like any other person would

  • That's when the theif throws your laptop to the ground, You don't get it returned, who are we kidding

  • Alright, I see how they called to get it disabled. That means it would obviously need a connection, ie: internet. So If the person disabled the internet it wouldn't get a connection, or just took out the wifi then it can't be disabled..?

  • @pur99strpka it's done via cellular SMS. so even if

the person had no service where they took it.. the minute it got service it would deactivate the laptop.

  • @junkyard12320

There is a thing called, "Turning the wireless off". So if it was turned off they could browse through all their information, documents, passwords, use a recover file tool to recover deleted documents to retrieve credit cards, information and anything else you could think of. If it has it's own WIFI\Cellular connection implemented into the laptop, which can't be disabled. Then sure, it will work.

  • @pur99strpka it does have internal 3g, so it doesn't need to be near wifi to be remote killed. all intel anti theft processors have this.

  • Be warned - under Windows, the BIOS installs a Backdoor / Trojan.

It is simply to deactivate if you know how to do.

You can edit the bios chip, too and remove Computrace.

If you use Linux, this technology has no function.

  • WTF... Cesar Millan?!

  • yea right, what if I take out the hard drive???

  • @aoxilus intel AT also includes passwording the hard drive in the bios.

  • nice beer belly bro, lookin good in that wet suit.

  • does anyone know how you get the intel anti theft thing? is it an automatic service when you buy the laptop? who do you call?

  • wouldn't the solution be to disconnect the wireless from the computer? That way the poison pill will never be able to get in the computer... and you'll still be able to see whats inside the computer.. OR you just turn it off as fast as you can and rip off the hard drive..

  • ok so... they install a RAT (remote administration tool) at ur pc... but when the pc is stolen and u dont have internet how in the hell can ur pc go off ? LOL

  • Could this mean the end of Anti virus softwares companies ? :D))))

  • @kytanokyle

lol you do know a virus and a theft are two different things right?

  • @dfpcmaia yes i know ...i asked from other points of view

  • I have a better solution, get a laptop with lojack, download kiddie poorno videos and pictures from a free wifi spot without surveilance cameras in the area, then let a thief take the laptop. Create a local police report of your stolen laptop. 2 days later, call in an anonymous tip to the police that you saw some wierdo downloading kiddie porn at a wifi spot... but he left some paperwork with his lojack settings. Now he will spend 20+ years in prison :)

  • @mil42012

    yeah.

..and will be fucked by guys who enlarged their cocks and bought viagra by the internet :-)

  • @mil42012 until they look at the file timestamps and notice you called AFTER that time....

  • @ITGuru0111 A better idea is to swap out the hard drive into your machine.

  • @jayjjj3 you can do that, but the data is encrypted, it doesnt just lock the laptop, it encrypts every data on your drive. so unless you know how do decrypt high security stuff like they do, good luck, the hard drive would just be a brick :p

  • @Kingslay3r It doesn't actually encrypt any data for you, it just prevents access to encrypted data. So, if you just used that without encrypting your data it still is worlthless. Google intel anti theft technology and click on the first link.

  • So whats stops you from removing the hard drive?

  • only 999.99$

    xD

  • "think about whats on your laptop.."...i immediately thought "...porn"

  • @1xXitachiXx1 hahah :)

  • How about you damn thief minded individuals....help me take over the world?

  • thats not very good for $50000 worth of data, very easy to bypass

  • How about just removing the hard disk and putting it in another machine before this happens?

  • how about opening up the laptop and reseting the bios???

this is a complete waste of money....

  • there are already hacked bios out there to circumvent this.

  • This is awsome technology Intel, but honestly it needs improvement. What if the laptop is stolen and it isn't connected to the Internet at all? And the owner called the help desk, put poisonkill, and the laptop can't be turned off with poisonkill at all. If you can provide a 3g Internet on the laptops you can be able to bill monthly for the Internet so the laptop can be turned off with poison kill.

  • @oliver18754 - This is where the 'timer feature' comes into play. In addition to a poison pill, you can set a timer which automatically locks the device if it fails to contact the monitoring center within a set interval.

  • oh boy wellnot fun with that

  • remember to steal her cellphone also next time.

  • bullshit this one is...

  • In order for this to work, it'll have to be fully booted with wi-fi access enabled & operational. Otherwise, how the heck can Intel or the "help desk" send the instruction to activate AT :?

This is just a marketing gimmick. Of that 12K laptops stolen weekly, I'd say less than 1% are from under someone's nose whilst fully booted & operational. To beat it, just turn it off & use offline boot CDs to snoop through data if you're that way inclined.

    Marketing coercion at its finest.

    /rolleyes

  • @FeaolPlay You've got a good point, but you're missing one thing: if the device is actually on and maybe connected via 3G, you really want to at least shut (clear the ram).

It's obvious that a company laptop uses an encrypted disk. So if you find a laptop that's powered off, you get to keep the laptop but can't access the data (what really matters). And if it's on, you can't keep the laptop nor data.

  • Intel AT performs the encrypted data access disable by preventing access to or deleting cryptographic material (e.g. encryption keys) required to access previously encrypted data. ISV-provided Intel AT-capable encryption software may store this cryptographic material in the PC's chipset. In order to restore access to data when the system is recovered, this cryptographic material must be escrowed/backed up in advance in a separate device or server provided by the security ISV/service provider.

  • killerdavesullo, if your laptop comes with Intel anti-theft it would aso come with bit locker or equivalent, so removign the HDD would not work.

  • You could take out hard drive and connect it to computer using external hard drive case for laptops. Yes you could access the laptop hard drive probably.

  • I think a Glock 23 would be a better way

  • That's great and all but I can't agree with the ending. As if you're ever going to see you laptop again!!! There's no way a thief is going to return it. A great measure to stop someone without pc 101 experience from stealing your data, but other than that this is useless technology. As stated below one can connect the HD to an outer source (other laptop or desktop). I'd rather technology that magnetizes the HD erasing it completely. But this stuff would be expensive to implement.

  • im pretty shure they will hack this "brick" within the year.

  • im seriously curious how this works.

  • hmmm then cant someone just steal the laptop then remove the batterey before it gets bricked?

then slide that hard drive into a desktop?

  • possibly, but not alot of us have the adapters to just slide it into a desktop.

  • ummm this laptop has a SATA hdd correct?

it does, and SATA is like the standard right now, so connecting a laptop sata hard drive to a computer is as easy as plugging 2 cables, and its so easy, anyone that can change a lightbulb can do it

  • New laptops use SATA, and the connectors for SATA data and power are identical for desktops and laptops, you just plug it in.

  • ah thank you, I am out of touch with newer laptops and did not know this. I thought they was all still using that clunky ide interface.

  • If hdd is sata, there's no need for adapter, its the same connectors as the ones in desktop pc.

if not, ata-usb adapters are really cheap

  • but u need to be on internet for that!!!

  • Once he stole the laptop, I lost his point.

  • Hint: Format it... lol =]

  • Doesn't work.

  • Comment removed

  • What stops them from pulling the hard drive out and plugging it into another computer?

  • Its built into the computer not the Hardrive, you replace that and it will just carry on as before.

  • So, all I have to do is disable the Wifi adapter right when I steal the laptop, and I'm home free!?! That must be the way in which the laptop gets locked..

  • lol makes sense to me.. then just uninstall that nice lil intel program..thx for the theft tip youtube hahaha

  • Well that an never use it again on the internet, hence rendering it almost useless.

  • what do you think gandalf is doing when he's not making movies?

    working at intel, duh!

  • Laptop Theft is a big probrlem. I know its happened at my company, also it happens a lot more than companies will admit. In fact it happens all the time and Intel is actually trying to do something to help. Just make sure i can also get my computer/information back as well as protecting it. I have a lot of valuable stuff on my laptop and my back-up is not always completely up to date.

    Papase

  • what music is used at the end ?

  • what if i take the HDD out, i can access the data by using my enclousre ,,

  • EXACTLY !!

  • No...all of the hard-drive date is encrypted in hardware before it gets written to the drive. If the drive is removed, the contents are unreadable.

  • Long live water-proof laptop :P

  • gay

  • not really because what if it happened to you

  • how do THAT many laptops get stolen? do people just not care about their shit?

  • yup

and or are stupider then a shoe..

  • sweeet! nice video Josh!

  • this is sooooo dumb. Same thing with people thinking their comp is protected with just a password.

All you need to do is freaking put the hard drive in an enclosure and you can view all the files!!! unless they are encrypted. what bogus stuff!!

  • lol..i new the first comment was going to say that ..

    Totally Agree !!

  • prrr... encryption ROFL decrypt it b00n...

  • nice :)

  • and what if it is not connected to a network?

  • Impressive!

  • hey all check out the vPro Expert Center for the tech specs on Anti-theft technology.

  • I wonder if this is also avalible to computers that use for stuff like gaming home media all the stuf thats not bussnies

  • :O ! Dayum nice technology

  • what if the thief yanks out the hard drive and puts it in another computer, then powers it on. are they able to see all the files, personal information, or even possibly boot from it?

  • nah man, it's encrypted

  • thats pretty good

  • Thanks for polluting the ocean... Aholes

  • nice!!! this should be available w/o calling though... because sometimes you either have no cellphone or something, and might take a while to reach them. There should be like a remote or somethin

  • what about a linux live CD?? then you can access all the files on the hard drive right?

  • ut wont work because the cpu has been disable ... nice try 11 year old

  • but if you have the laptop, why not just take out the HDD?

  • Haha Josh is awesome :)

  • good idea...1st comment!
