I'm curious to know what (if any) drive system is used? I see the smoke coming from the smokestack, but I don't see any steam coming from anywhere, as you would expect from a steam piston. I also noticed diesels pushing from the back, and I wonder if Thomas is powered at all... I don't remember Thomas from Shining Time Station, I've just seen recent video, and I kinda wondered about the lack of pistons... (Yes, I'm 21 yrs old and still love Thomas the Tank Engine :) ).

The exhaust is just from a smoke-unit, "Thomas" is essentially a cab car that just controls the locomotive on the other end. And it was common feature of British steam locomotives to have inside-cylinders mounted on the interior of the frame, directly under the smokebox, which transferred power to the driving axle (which in turn transferred power to the other drive wheels through the main rods); inside-cylinders never really caught-on in North America.
