I don't think the legislators are worried about trans people using the appropriate washroom. It's about men who will abuse it because men tend to do things like that. They'll legally argue that their gender identity is female so they can get in there.

Up here in the cities of Boston and Cambridge there has been laws on the books for years protecting bathroom use for gender expression. I cant believe that opponents to this bill are using that to hold it back. I lost my job last month because of my transition because of this bill not being passed there is nothing I can do about it .

Fortunately in Canada; at least bigger cities like Hamilton or Toronto; you can often find unisex bathrooms in large malls so shopping is much less stressful... That said I still get very nervous using women's rooms despite presenting as female and having female ID... It still worries me a little. If current law is prohibiting private establishments from taking gender identity into account, in which case I have no argument with you. In Tennessee[!] there is no law prohibiting people from using the other genders "appointed" bathroom. Although, I try to avoid the men's bathroom at all costs because men don't know how to piss in a toilet apparently. There is a group in Florida who seems to be against the freedoms of people not like them and the ones making negative ads, not sure if they are the same ones in the Massachusetts area though. The ad can be found on youtube. Their web site tries to argue that the wording is vague but it is the same wording used in other locations to include transgende individuals, gender identity, in various ordinances; many will say gender identity and/or expression as well.

I mean a TS person who is viewed by all as the same gender as their gender identity will have no problems using public bathrooms under any circumstances. Once in two consecutive days, I was questioned why as a chick I was using the mens room and why as a man I was using the womens room. I was dressed nearly exactly the same both days. Which leads to the larger point that I think needs to be made, where if segregated bathrooms are present, it should not be at the exclusion of a unisex bathroom. There are plenty of good reasons other than transsexualism why there should always be a unisex bathroom always available.
The best reason to still have a unisex bathroom other than for transgender people, is for single parents with young children of the opposite gender, followed by a close second that some people just are not real comfortable in general in having other people in the restroom with them, even if they are of the same gender.

How many transsexuals have been documented as causing trouble in restrooms? How many people actually get molested or raped in public restrooms? Of any of those that may of occurred was it because transsexuals had access to the restroom? How many homosexuals get divorced? Compared to straight cisgemdered marriages? There are so many typs of trans women, some are post op some are pre op and on hormones and some are pre op and still in male bodies who have never taken hormones. I don't think the worry is about the trans people using the bathrooms being pervs- it's about the fact that now man would be able to use the bathroom, too. So while the trans people cause no threat and just want to pee in peace, the worry is because of the perverted non trans straight rapist men who can just walk in claiming they're trans.
is this likely to happen? not at all. but I think that is the cause for concern, not the trans folks.

I agree that this bill heads in the right direction with giving trans people rights, however I can see how that jump gets made. Ever watch 'To Catch A Predator?" It's very sick, but unbelievable how many child predators there are out there. It wouldn't be a concern of mine, but I understand the concern of the general public toward this issue.
I also understand that most people who oppose this bill oppose it for other more bigoted reasons than the safety of our children from predators.

Up here in the cities of Boston and Cambridge there has been laws on the books for years protecting bathroom use for gender expression. I cant believe that opponents to this bill are using that to hold it back. I lost my job last month because of my transition because of this bill not being passed there is nothing I can do about it .

Fortunately in Canada; at least bigger cities like Hamilton or Toronto; you can often find unisex bathrooms in large malls so shopping is much less stressful... That said I still get very nervous using women's rooms despite presenting as female and having female ID... It still worries me a little. Of course it's not like I could (or would) use the men's bathroom :P

When people are asking for a "freedom", in the form of law, it seems to me that they are often, in reality, asking for a "privilege".
I'm not sure what the law is now, but I'd imagine it's one of two things. If current law is prohibiting private establishments from taking gender identity into account, in which case I have no argument with you. But if the bill, as I suspect, is FORCING private establishments to accept a "social standard" as their own policy then I'm very much opposed.

In Tennessee[!] there is no law prohibiting people from using the other genders "appointed" bathroom. Although, I try to avoid the men's bathroom at all costs because men don't know how to piss in a toilet apparently. One of the tricks that I use when I get dressed up is to drain asmuch as possible before going out and going some place that has a one holer or gendre friendly. But when I am all dressed with my good clothes and wig it would totally blow my cover to be observed using the men's room. There is a group in Florida who seems to be against the freedoms of people not like them and the ones making negative ads, not sure if they are the same ones in the Massachusetts area though. The ad can be found on youtube. Their web site tries to argue that the wording is vague but it is the same wording used in other locations to include transgende individuals, gender identity, in various ordinances; many will say gender identity and/or expression as well.

Once in two consecutive days, I was questioned why as a chick I was using the mens room and why as a man I was using the womens room. I was dressed nearly exactly the same both days. Which leads to the larger point that I think needs to be made, where if segregated bathrooms are present, it should not be at the exclusion of a unisex bathroom. There are plenty of good reasons other than transsexualism why there should always be a unisex bathroom always available.

The best reason to still have a unisex bathroom other than for transgender people, is for single parents with young children of the opposite gender, followed by a close second that some people just are not real comfortable in general in having other people in the restroom with them, even if they are of the same gender.

i can assure you that trans woman have no other intent then simply using the toilet, sink, mirror, ect. why does it have to be a big deal, if anything using the bathroom that fits what they look like only makes sense. if they look like a guy at the time, they will use the mens bathroom. if they don't think they will pass as a woman in the bathroom they will use a private one. our goal is not to interact with other people at all, it's to satisfy our human need to go to the bathroom!

Newsflash! If you were born male, you're still male, regardless of how you have screwed yourself up since then. Allowing trannies in women's bathrooms is in effect allowing ANYONE in women's bathrooms. Any pervert can put on a wig and claim to be female identifying.

How many transsexuals have been documented as causing trouble in restrooms? How many people actually get molested or raped in public restrooms? Of any of those that may of occurred was it because transsexuals had access to the restroom? How many homosexuals get divorced? Compared to straight cisgemdered marriages? LOOK the way i see all this is....... If im peeing and a gay guy is next to me lookin or even jerkin off, at the end of the day im glad the guy would be happy and imo its no harm to me. If i was a girl it would be the same and if a rapist wants to rape then he will do it in some alley or a forrest not a bathroom where ppl will be in and out that could catch them.

Yackety- I actually see your point, it IS hard to know. There are so many typs of trans women, some are post op some are pre op and on hormones and some are pre op and still in male bodies who have never taken hormones. For the third consideration I STILL wish there was a seperate restroom for them even if they can't use the ladies' room. I mean it's very uncomfortable for someone who basically looks like a flat chested woman to go in with a bunch of big burly men.

But the legality of proving you are transsexual is still ambiguous.
There should really be a legal way to prove you are transsexual before a bill like this could be passed, i.e. a document from a psychologist.
A person who is transgendered, but has not started to transition, could they really just walk into that bathroom legally? That would be cause serious concerns for those who are genetic males/females in the restroom.
what if there were children in the bathroom?

Well, you have to remember that the people who call it the bathroom bill and want to deny LGBT rights are saying these things because they want others to believe the way that they do, that trans people are the perverts that they want to "protect" the rest of the people from. They don't want trans people to have any rights at all. They try to convince others that trans people are less than human and unworthy of the rights that they enjoy. They also like to use their religion card in this fight

I agree with your point. I even agree with the comparison to gay marriage but I disagree with the statement about how this is the conservative mindset.
The liberal anti-gun mindset is not any different. They argue that we need stricter gun laws to keep people safe, but facts prove places with stricter gun laws are less safe CLEAR across the board.
