CGI fails when compared to the amazing miniatures of the past. The reason the Millennium Falcon looked so real was because it was real. CGI ruined everything in my opinion. 3D cartoons such as the movies made by Pixar are amazing but CGI mixed with live action looks horrendous. BRING BACK THE MODELS!
This practical, behind-the-scenes stuff is infinitely more interesting than watching some slack-gutted drone slouched over his Mac playing with his polygons.
Any special effect is only as good as the people doing it. There were plenty of bad model shots in movie history, just like there are many good CGI shots. It's the skill of the artists that count, not the method they use.
Here's something interesting, and you may already know this
One of the earliest uses of scale miniatures was a 22 sec. film made by W. R. Booth and Robert Paul in which it shows two trains colliding with one another.
@Bluestarcinema C'mon cinematography is the most high end tech art. Refuse CGI and Digital cinema it's like forgot about movie history. Every single optical, chemical, engineering achievement were breakthrough at its time. GTFO Old ladies :-D
@Bluestarcinema couldnt agree more. the realism is lost with cgi. i mean the only way to blow up a building or to sink a ship is to ACTUALLY DO IT! Emagine how star wars episodes 1, 2 and 3 would have looked if good ole george (bless his soul) would have done actual sets and miniatures instead of constant bombardment from CGI.
@MozTS They WERE to be executed, but the korean artists realized they were no match against real artists, and quickly faced their own death via stoppers put in the gun barrels blowing their own heads away rather than the REAL artists!
Thank you SOOO much for posting this video. I have looked for 'Movie Magic" before and I am happy to finally find this. This show was great, and was pre-dvd. This show was one of the only ways to see this kind of behind the scenes stuff.
Because linking whoever you may want to show to the page itself will increase views. I'm tallying all "views" to send to Discovery, to show them the numbers to put these ALL on DVD as they would do very well.
Would not be that hard, it was on VHS. One of my teachers in film schooled showed an episode. I have always loved this show. Most sfx shows and dvd features, Leave something to be desired. Thanks for the post.
Folks, please take a look in my description before asking. I do not have any other Movie Magic episodes, but I am looking for more, but no one has come forth with any. I can upload videos of longer durations, so I am more than happy to upload. The main goal is to watch as many as possible, since the show was my favorite. Also, TheRpf, please disable my link from your website, if I am not welcome there, then neither is my upload! Thanks! (I'm disabling embed for them, but anyoen else feel fre
I have a handful of them on VHS tape.... Maybe half a dozen shows. If I could figure out a cost effctive way to get them to digital format I'd love to post them here.
Although I'm a professional modelmaker myself, and can use some computer programs like Photoshop etc. I don't have any experience at all with digital video.
If anyone can tell me what program to use to capture the video using a standard low-end computer running Vista, LMK.
VHS DVD combo. My uncle has one of those, I would gladly pay you to ship me the VHS's to be converted, then I'll send you back both the VHS and DVD copies (with my end being that I get to watch them and upload here for others) If that interests you, please mail me here or email. Thank you kindly, Tyler
I'm looking for all of them, especially the Hocu Pocus episode. I love the Cliffhanger episode too. Fellas and Gals that said you had some, did any of "yuns" find anything? (my friend Beetle J says yuns hahha!)
Thats my agenda, from the description I put up. Anyones guess is as good as mine, I found this episode on a torrent site which is the only place I've ever seen full episodes online. That is why I downloaded to upload here, in hopes of obtaining more to build a collection anyone can take for free.
Do you have a director's account or how is it that you were able to upload a file over 10 minutes? I have several epps but too interested in chopping them up.
I have a Directors Account, which if I can get one anyone can, haha. I have no clue where to get more episodes, but if you would be willing to share I can host them for you? I do things for a living now that I learned from this show when I was younger, so I love it alot.
I am guessing you got that acct a couple years ago. I think they do not offer that any longer, but I will look. I'll have to contact you about getting the data to you. ;-)
Sent you a message, in hopes to obtain more episdoes. I had not noticed that some 20000 people have watched this one episode so far, I will show those numbers to Discovery channel in hopes of a DVD boxset. I will also make a seperate Movie Magic only channel.
I was dissappointed as well, I really hated that the stopped showing these episodes on TV yet will air all kinds of useless bullshit like "oprah" dr phil etc. I've wrote Discovery before with no response to any episode plans on DVD etc. So its up to us fans to gather as much as possible of the episodes and put them here for every fan of the show.
