  • Omg Superman!!! I rode that ride yesterday! :D

  • WOW! You are AW SOME!

  • Dude you are my hero xD!

  • Ok i may sound like a total weirdo right now but i just want to ask.... is there any way that the Rail Gun technology can be dumed down so any Yaho wack head could make one in the garage? or is this a really hightech technology that it really takes an enormous amount of intelligence to build?

  • its insanely simple to build a rail gun but its expensive and you need high grade materieals for the rails so they dont get destroyed by the high power pulses

  • well im thinking.... high quality steel from SSAB (Swedish Steel AB) it barely gets nicked from a several ton heavy weight dropped from 12 meters.... the rust protecting coating got scratched.... how bout that?

And also im thinking car batteries.... shouldnt be too hard to get...

and also this is a One-shot project just to see if i can do it... so i dont care about low grade materials

  • "And also im thinking car batteries...."

well your not thinking in quiet the right dimensions. more like hughe low resitance capacitors....and i dont know about your steel but it might just work (im no expert) also you will need a way to accelerate the projectile into the rails (like a potato canon or something)

best way i see to do it is to search ebay for cheep elko bulk offers and than get a microwave transformers to charge them the rest is just about the rail

  • hmm.... is it possible to charge a capacitor with the car batteries? (im kind of a science n00b xD)

And what type of capacitor would you recommend?

  • weell you could do that but why would you do that ( you can just use the wall socket) and for the capacitors ... just use waht ever ellkos you can get cheap. if you have multiple choices go for lower resistance.

  • i did hear from someone that a certain part within a camera could be used.... the one that engages the flash..... somehow it could be used to release the amount of electricity needed instantly... think it might work?

  • Comment removed

  • that part is an elko ( electrolytic capacitor) but the one from a cammera is much too small for a rail gun. but it might just be suficient for a small coilgun ( just look it up on wiki)

  • hmm... ok thanks

Their is actually a railgun that is really easy to make. All you need is a coat hanger, to rare earth disc magnets, a 9v battery, and aluminum. Its really really week, but it is really really week... So a railgun is easy to make, but once you go past that little setup it starts to get really complicated. People are still trying to figure out how to reduce rail erosion and friction, currently the two biggest problems with railguns.

  • Perfect rating for this video, I always admire people who have knowldge of how things work so that we may learn from them. Thax!!!

  • You can see it because 400kph is only about 230mph roughly. Still that is fast for a coil gun. Most coil gun on youtube rarely accelerate more than 100mph. Mine is probably at around 60-70mph. I once did a 2 stage coil gun that probaly had a velocity of 110 mph. still too slow.

  • i can see the bullet ,that is shit

  • that's a spark.

  • haha, once i tried to grab a hot peice of solder and burnt myself

  • This is quite possibly the coolest thing EVAR!

  • They should use a giant orbital railgun to accelerate spacecraft and sling them into deep space. Earth to Mars in 30 minutes, why not?

  • because sensitive electronics can't handle such accelerations.

  • while humans can????

  • spacecraft don't necessarily carry humans? right?

  • Good science.

  • pretty cool video =]

  • I love his Russian accent.

  • Nice demonstrations.... and the accent isn't Russian ;)

  • hahaha plasma boy lol nicee

  • lol plasma boiy nice
