  • lol i wonder how the singer sings so well in english and still has this french accent when speaking

  • I'm French, fluent in English, i speak Spanish too, and watching this interview i'd rather read the Spanish subtitles than try and understand a word to what they're saying. Damn you French accent! Haha

  • their accents are mind fucking my brain.

  • laurent looks just like link, from rhett and link!

  • its coz u can say laboratory a few ways

    1. labratree

    2. laboratree

    3. laboratoree and he sorta says lab-a-rat-ory lol :)

  • they speek like this deliberatly. with this caricatural accent... why ? for the frenchtouch ... haha it's too old fashioned.

    I like their music.

  • the strange phenomenom of accent changing when singing has happpened alot! all those british singers, like atomic kitten, they lose their accent too! i dont know why, but it just turns american. i gess french accents arent any difrent. i suspect it bc (regarding british accents) they speak so clipped, and with pitch changes, and when singing, the words are drawn out and you cant say it clipped! i tried to sing in a british accent. it didnt work. only if the song is fast.

  • @artisticagi haha. you're funny!

  • @artisticagi Agreed. The Cure and the Sex Pistols are exceptions though, off the top of my head. Oh, Madness as well. But I agree. The American accent seems universal doesn't it? Ha ha. Great point!

  • thomas looks bored

  • @dolohovsfan thanks!

  • Lionel Messi & Jose Mourinho

  • i love phoenix my favorite band of all time (MODERN band that is) Them and crystal castles.. thats all i neeeeed

  • @mayaaisabel Crystal Castles with Robert Smith on vocals kicked ass!

  • what is the song that plays at the beginning?

  • @timothyuglee Sigur Rós - Gobbledigook My favorite band!

  • I used to think the french were assholes. I've just realized we're the assholes and they're simply letting us know.

  • Oh, j'adore mon beau Branco! Only he could say: "doing something magical, but doing it in your bedroom", look at Thomas' eyes when he says it, it seems he's going to crack up LOL, it's just too funny!

He's pure frenchiness: "pure love", "magical", "music from heaven" VIVE LA FRENCH INVASION!

  • @angelique181

That is my favorite part of this interview!! It's such a subltle little expression in his eyes that speaks volumes!!

  • How can he sing in English perfectly but have such an accent off stage? hahaha

  • @thewaainator Really? He sings with a noticeable Parisian accent. At least I think so.

  • I like how he has this shmexy heavy French accent when he talks but when he sings, it doesn't seem like he has an accent at all. lol

  • Labo...labo....labora.....laborat....lobaratory

  • Better than Raffarin! Yeahhhhhhh!!!!!!!

  • branco is so cute. I can't take it.

  • @purelovelovelove well he was 35 when this was filmed

  • someone, PLEASEE tell me.. whats the name of the song at the start??

ive been looking for it for ages!!

  • @glittersheep92 love like a sunset

  • @glittersheep92 its gobbledigook by sigur ros

  • hes doing magical things in his bedroom lol

  • omg as much as i love french accents (& i do mean love) the 1st guy, laurent's accent is really annoying!! I would almost rather listen to a british accent which i really hate instead of listening to him! mayb its his voice thats the problem, idk!

i had to fast forward to thomas, his accent & voice r much better! actually,to me, he sounds like an amercan imitatng a french accent!! lol thats how good his english is! :)

  • are people actually dissecting their grammar and accent? ah, youtube. not only is it fun to watch the vids here, it's also fun to read the comments.

    btw, i love phoenix!

  • asdfghjk they're so cute oh my GOD

  • Je t'aime Thomas!!! Mars or Croquet, whoever his name truly is

  • SIGUR ROS!!!!

  • ps lal al like a la lalla labr lab labratory :D

  • teehee laboratory -3

  • its insane how bad their English is, but there songs come out being great

  • @sxjadow Grammar-wise, it's good, and very understandable. It's really only an accent "problem." But IMO, it's charming.

  • @Hockyluv21 fuck u

  • @sxjadow They have a pretty nice range of English diction, but their syntax needs a little work. Can't blame them too much though, I'd say overall it's pretty good and understandable enough. ;-)

  • @LaurenO27 hey, hey lauren Fuck u

  • @sxjadow Hahahahaha.

I wasn't actually insulting what you said, just adding my opinion, so your "insult" falls flat. But I can see that someone else replied to you in the same way that I did so I wasn't the only one thinking that. And you said fuck them also. I also thoroughly enjoy that you capitalized fuck but not my name. HAVE A NICE DAY, FRIEND.

  • @sxjadow their English is great, their first language is French, French is a damn hard language to learn

  • @howcum4y actually, its really not! I just started teaching myself a few months ago & its relatively simple...no harder than learning spanish or arabic!

unless u just have a hard time learning foreign languages! there r some ppl that have a hard time learning a language!

  • @montereyhippie well i'm Canadian, so it's a national language here, but only like 23% of Canada actually speaks it... we have to take it from grade 4-9, but they do a really shitty job at teaching it. I guess it's just alot of memorizing. i think it would be simple if you were to go to France or Quebec or somewhere, but the schools do a terrible job with it

  • @howcum4y lmao I think learning a 2nd language is fairly easy but we all have our talents;something im good at, u may not b & vice versa! however,I completely agree that learning a 2nd language from middle/high school can b quite difficult! i think a person would have to b a genius if they can become fluent n a language from a high school teacher! i think its bcuz every1 has a different learning style &most teachers dnt know how to adjust their teaching style for student to relate to the lesson!

  • @sxjadow wow thier english is NOT bad. have you tried lerning a diffeent language. to be able to string snetences together without forgetting or having to search your memory...thats darn good!

  • I love the look on Thomas's face during this clip. It's priceless.

  • branco <3

  • is the guy in purple going to say anything or just sit there and grow dick cheese?

  • these guys have foreskin. fucking gross.

  • Lab-lab-labratorryy

    He's so damn cute.

  • Ohh my jesus, they are amazingg. Such strong accents. Zut Alors!

  • So weird how they can sound so American in their songs but have such a strong accent in real life. They are amazing. One of my favourite bands

  • @RoyalNavyAndrew you trying to spell laboratory is hilarious.

  • These guys are the reason I learned French ahah

  • Doing something magical...but in your BEDROOM! haha

  • Sigur Ros in the beginning :O

    Man they talk/Sound cool

  • @midocrimsonfate

    What song is that?

  • @ERoBB1 Gobbledigook

  • what was that song in the very very beginning and the song starting at :15? they sound so familiar

  • @rainofthewinter the first one is Gobbledigook by Sigur Rós and the one at :15 is Love Like a Sunset (by Phoenix of course) (:

  • @danceofthecosmos Yes! Thank you!!

  • @rainofthewinter love like a sunset part one.

  • Please help Me!!! What is the song in the INTRO to this video.

  • @tiecoolguy is Love Like A Sunset Pt.1 from their most recent album, is the beginning of it.

  • WHY ARE THE FRENCH SO AWESOME?!?!?!?

  • Aïe aïe les oreilles! By hearing their music I really thought speaking English was not a big deal for them. :-))) mais c pas grave, on vous aime !

  • in 4:44 thats when he keeps hitting himself

  • SIGUR ROS!!!!! love that song.

  • @xolemonlime2

I think you don't know what is french music besides Daft Punk, Justice or Phoenix.

What if I said "american people are always been known for their lack of culture" ?

So stop saying silly general things, just learn, be humble, open your mind or shut up.

  • @samsagace14 no thanks.

  • i fucking love how this band sounds exactly the same as the album then live

  • omg! it's a miracle! thomas mars is not wearing a blue shirt!!!

  • @08riddlec

    haha noticed that too immediately!

  • @Jof1987 lol! :)

  • wut

He doesn't sound like his singing voice.

Then again, nor does Bertrand Cantat.

  • royal navy andrew is probably right a bout 4.11

  • How does Thomas sing with a good American English Accent, yet he has a heavy French Accent in talking casually.

  • @KimYungSoo not too strong of an accent

  • why is there name wolfgang amadias phoenix????

  • They are Phoenix. The album is Wolfgang Amadeus.

    ...as in Mozart?

  • @fronczek123 their name isn't wolfgang amadeus phoneix, it's just the name of their latest album

  • Thanks for Phoenix. As an artist, when I first heard this music, I had this moment of;

"What? This kind of music exists!?"

And it changed me. That what music should do, music you love, it should make you better, or alter your view of how you think things were.

    So thank you, Phoenix.

  • @JaMaph Exactly :)

  • I find it interesting how the one on the left, who is the singer, shows no trace of any french accent in their songs.

  • @marniexdancer

Ya he does! Listen to "If I Ever Feel Better" there is a verse where he sings "You know I don't want to be clever to be brilliant or superior. True like ice, true like fire." The way he pronounces the R at the end of "clever", "superior" and "fire". Classic Parisian accent.

  • Don't talk only sing man!

  • they're so... frech xD

  • @Monzyboy haha whats what i was thinking!

  • these guys are great, real normal everyday joes making kick ass stuff, newfound fan here

  • :D they could be talking about cleaning public toilets and it would still sound all pretty and poetical with those accents

  • Im sorry I couldnt resist, but there accents are amazing! :D I have thing for accents!

Besides that this is an awesome band! I hope I can go to one of thier concerts!

  • @prpletay724 i know i like asian accents to

  • ohh myy gashh; thier accents are to die for(:

  • just want to say this you know laurent brancowitz was in 'Darlin with thomas bangalter and guy-manuel de homem christo(Daft Punk)

  • he. is. amazing.

  • hahaha he mentions a wolfpack!

  • I adore Thomas he's soooooooo adorable. :]. and Phoenix is rather good too. :D.

  • I went to thier concert tonight, so epic i got up on stage and danced with the lead singer and saw the gaurtist walking down the street and got a picture with him. IT WAS SO EPIC

  • Yeah, I saw them at The Joint in Vegas a few days ago.

Got on stage, hugged Thomas, patted Laurent on the back and shoulder and he nodded and smiled. They were fantastic live!

    Lots of dancing.

  • Gobbledigook!!!!!

    Oh Phoenix. Thanks.

  • english is definately the best accent

people say that english people have accents too but idk i see it as really neutral... i cant imagine how people could think that this is so no matter what language you speak you sound english when you sing

all other accents just sound ridiculous

  • @frylock48 ya..this is really weird [in an interesting way]. listen to them now, and listen to them sing. when they sing-any french accent disappears. it is pretty amazing.

  • ehhh

    weee weee

    thiz men rock

  • nice accent!!! <3

  • Haha, their accent is beautiful.

  • The singer looks like "Do I agree with that?" the whole interview

  • @sidkun

Yea, he really looks like he is amused with what the other one is saying.

  • I think its insane how they have really thick french accents when they speak, but when they sing you could swear they're american!

  • I remember reading (I'm a little older than you)about the Stones/Led Zep/Beatles, & why they don't sound British when they sing. &...they said, it's because when they were starting out, all their favorite singers/bands were American, & they would try to copy & sound American, thus erasing their accent. I don't know if that's true today, but it was back in the 60's & 70's.

  • that actually makes total sense. :D thx

  • @jerryjoe88 but how much british can u sound when u sing? i think its pretty hard, and so all the accents merge into almost one accent. whichever itll be. :]

  • Their are a lot of band that don't hide their accents. Listen to The Sex Pistols(Johnny Rotten), The Smiths, Malcolm McLaren(Fans is a great album), Oasis, The Cure, etc., etc...

  • i dont say anyone is hiding it..but it just comes off that way. and btw, yeah, these bands might have a very slight english accent while singing, but its in the interviews where it comes best :] still..bands like cure rock! i miss the 80's :]

  • Yeah...me too, my friend.

  • i love phoenix, i love thomas mars, he's so cute! their accents makes me laugh

i cant wait for the show in march!

vivement l'olympia, j'ai tellement hate d'enfin pouvoir les voir sur scène..

  • Do french men age well cause I wanna marry Thomas,he seems so mezmorizing.

  • his accent ist so gorgeous:D

  • thomas trying to say labratory at 4:11 is hilarious. (:

  • ...like a labator-laboterea-ratory.

  • (: haha

  • @RoyalNavyAndrew

he's so cute trying to say that!

    :3

  • @RoyalNavyAndrew hahahaha yes!

    "A lalalalabrobrabra...a labrato... a labratory" MDR ;)

  • @TheLoulette9999

    when you "da-vuh-lop" the thing

    love it!!

  • @fionaspencer8 What did you mean by: da-vuh-lop ?

i'm not english, i'm french, sorry... try to use simple words.

    thank you! ^^

  • @TheLoulette9999

Seriously? You're kidding right? It's the way Thomas pronounced "developed". I love the Parisian accent. Around here where I live we have French-Canadian accents...NOT as nice.

  • @RoyalNavyAndrew haha, at least he tries :P

  • @RoyalNavyAndrew and it's so cute X)

  • @RoyalNavyAndrew

u tryin to write laboratory is hilarious :)

  • @Lunte2

    (:

  • i touched mars yesterday heheh montreal concert !!!

  • same except in frankfurt!, and my friend got to dance on stage with him

  • Laurent could make cutting your toenails a poetic experience. he's lovely.

  • i love their french accent :D

  • They are sooo French

  • lol in the beginning i thought my itunes was playing my sigur ros song

  • Well, shoot. I noticed a ring on his left hand. There goes my day...

  • love that sigur ros at the begining

  • which sigur ros song was it?

  • gobbledigook

  • nvm!

  • I would never expect my favorite guitarist to have Laurent Brancowitz such a thick french accent!Thomas Mars sounds as expected.

  • hey, don't diss the french, they rock.

    Their music is awesome 2

  • the guy talking sounds like a really humble guy.

  • Comment removed

  • Wrong. They say themselves that they started writing english songs frot he beginning.

(maybe that's why they sound good, but there is not always a perfect rhythm and syntax in it! as well as rymes)

  • @lilybleach Complete nonsense. I am French, have followed them from very early, there is no production in French. They declared that English is the language of Rock like Italian is the language of Opera. It is just a terrible lack of style and taste to try to sing it in French. So they do write in English. Also, Lisztomania is the English translation of a more or less international word, a term coined in the XIXth C. to express a phenomenon of crowd extasy...

  • @MrNormanrip ok? I dont care....I wrote that months ago....? I don't even like this band as much anymore ....so please don't write back to me thanks =)

  • @lilybleach Oh, don't worry, I stand speechless... :-).

  • @lilybleach lol wow someone is pms-ing

  • What is the song that plays in the intro?

  • Sigur Ros - Gobbledigook

  • 4:10 - 4:15 .

  • hahaha labotobratory

  • labotobra-brotabratorie

  • @1985MANAmericana

    lol the french.

  • @S0phie92 lol English is a tough language man. Example: I present the present in the present. LOL

  • WOWOWOW.

There is nothing that I love more than men with accents, and this just made my day.

They're both so good looking, funny, and brilliant muscians! I hope I can go see them when they come to Toronto in December :) ♥

  • COOL STORY BRO!

  • yo bro bak off itz my opinyon k?

  • NOOBFAG

  • whats the backround music when their talking? Is it something by pheonix, because if it is i am not familiar with it.

  • I'm seeing them tomorrow! SO EXCITED

  • They are stunningly articulate! Quite a refreshing change from most musicians.

It's funny to me that such thick accents can become neutralized when the same peo
