The Elder represents KISS at its best. A vision and a over the top one at that. I remember the imagery the songs conveyed on my first listen back in '81. A great album. Great music. Not the usual KISS offering. It has a drive and it kicks your ass.

The Elder was not a failure. Kiss fans failed to understand it, back then. It was just different and proved that kiss had a lot to give. The band was cornered, though, and changed musical direction. who knows what the next kiss album would sound if the elder would have been a hit?

They could do a tour for it. Play part one, then intermission, then part two...and nothing else. No rock and roll all nite...nothing. As dedicated as KISS fans are today, it would work!

I was 12 or 13 when it came out, and I thought it was okay, but it didn't hit me as to how great of an album The Elder is until I listened to it a few years ago - and it is perhaps my favorite Kiss release. It was so far ahead of it's time that most of us who were kids just didn't get it.

I am a huge KISS fan. I grew up listening to their old albums. I love "The Elder", but the song "I", gets old extremely fast. "And then a bolt of lightning, hit me on my head", come on you guys. I think that on the Elder, the songs "Just a boy", and "Only You", could have been all one song because in "Only You", they incoorporated the "Just a Boy" riff which I thought was very cool.

The Elder was pretty much an embarassment. After the Disco Dynasty, the 3 rubbish solo albums, that was it for them, and everybody said "Kiss sucks". They came back with Animalize, but by then , it was a different thing.
