Sorry - typo - she's gripping the bow in a "pretty good" spot. Suzuki might not like the "shortening" up of the bow - but look at some of the other Celtic fiddlers on Youtube - it is legit. Just saw the Kevin Burke appearance - and the 3-kids playing on stage - wow again. Thank you for posting these videos - you've got a great celtic band there !! Best wishes.
One more thought .. you've probably covered this .. sometimes (smaller) players shorten-up on their bow grip - gives them better control (apparently). She's using a pretty spot to hold the bow - moving up a couple of inches is legit from a celtic fiddle perspective - some players, that's how they play.
Hope she has a good teacher to move her along - she's doing great ! Q's & ideas: Is the fiddle abit too small ? Try to keep the strings level with the ground. Try to bow 1/2-way between the bridge and the fingerboard. Maybe more rosin on the bow (10 strokes of rosin before each session). Clean the strings after each session too. Think about slowing down this piece abit & focusing on hitting the notes. Also - some of the runs in this piece can be slurred. Overall: Excellent !!! Keep going !!
Her violin was a bit small when this was taped. She got a bigger violin about a month after this. She is doing much better with her slurring now (this was about 6 months ago) and also playing with better bow control. I am getting better at giving her the right amount of rosin. LOL
Some thoughts: try to keep the fiddle up so the strings are level with the ground - no higher, no lower.
Intonation is pretty good. Something's up with the sound of the bow - maybe missing rosin. Some of the runs up & down in this piece can be slurred - so they're easier to play. Maybe try slowing it down abit for easier playing too. Fiddle might be abit too small - her hand is really wrapping around it. Excellent overall - keep it up !!
My dear precious Haley I am blown away with this one!!!! All of the cousing at Appalachian state are showing your videos off to their friends!! You are becoming quite popular!! Love, (Aunt Kimberly)

Do you really call this "Cincinatti Hornpipe"? I only know it as "Cork Hornpipe".

We call it the Cincinnatti Hornpipe or Harvest Home.

Thank you for watching and for your comments. Her Suzuki teacher would not like any change in her bow hold. :-)

This tune is also called "Harvest Home". But you knew that. Its an intermediate tune - so this youngster is doing great !

I do know the other name but have no idea about the level of a tune. I am new to violin and fiddling.
