I always was most stirred by this scene and oddly, only at the first 1:27 of it.. striding across the desert to a tune that seems conterminous with the coolness of Jaba yet the plotting determination of Luke and gang until the actual escape is commenced; my ability to keep cool under fire I feel, ultimately has something to do with this scene.

That's not sarlacc's pit!!! What the hell is that beak? Boooooo.... This used to be my favorite scene and they totally ruined it. I thought it was cool having a big pit with just teeth on the side to keep prey from crawling out. Even in the board game it was cool to knock the characters off and watch them slide into the gaping pit... the lame worm in the middle totally ruins it. And that is actually my biggest beef with the SE version. Couldn't care less about the other additions...

i dont understand why they felt it a good idea to add a head and tentacles to this and make it have pig squeals, it added nothing to it, and kinda ruined the scene that freaked me out as a kid...but then again they made a lot of bad decisions when remastering these movies unfortunately, i just wish that they could (when they release these next year in bluray) revert back to the original editions rather than these versions, i just dont understand why Lucas hates the old effects so much

According to wiki, things will still get inside of the Sarlacc, even if they miss the beak. The beak's mostly useful for smaller prey, IIRC. The beak is just a tongue, of sorts. The tentacles are for grabbing nearby food and dragging it to the mouth, although the tentacles on this Sarlacc are on the short side, considering the size of the pit.
