@BrainwashMister I guess it's true since many people in the us drive ally so a auto would be great. But people who drive manuals are people who want performance in their cars. But I don't see them a lot so it's true!
I just got my 540i and the shifter feels loose and it pops out of gear every once in a while. Does anyone know what the problem could be? The shifter is also VERY gummy on cold mornings
First thing I did when I got my 98 540i 6 gang was turn off the traction contol rev it to 4500 rpm and do a smoky burn out. It doesn't do burnouts easily (heavy car), like a Mustang will, but It is fun to drive with a great shifter on the getrag 6 gang schaltgetriebe.
Your shifting is a bit off, on your upshifts pause in neutral a lil longer, you are going into the next gear to soon wearing syncros and clutch. You will get it down, then u will become one with the car.
@Forgoten214 I miss my Benz a lot - but, it was just too expensive to operate it on a day to day basis. I wish I had the garage space to keep it around as a car just to take long road trips with. The 540 is a much more involving experience, but it really isn't nearly as quick... the E55 was a beast. The 540 is a kitty cat compared to the E55...

Oh wow, yea I love the design of the E39 myself. The interior is beautiful. The factory navigation looks so outdated though. lol
E55 interior is nice too though but nowhere near as nice as the the 540i. IMO anyway.
I thought about getting a E55 but it's just not really a good car for a DD.

@interplexor E55 is in the M5 league. E500 is what 540 should be compared to.
