  • Being a south of the border person, hockey has always been of little interest to me. Watching Adam Gopnik online, I became aware of The Trap. Thanks for 'splainin!

  • Very good video...I like how you give your history in Hockey honestly...being at the JR. level you were still pretty good compared to the average. Great video. Thanks .

  • @Mozartmostly thanks!

  • Isn't this a offensive zone trap?

  • @213hockey i like to start the trap low... you can adjust if they start floating their wingers higher... if you run it this way, most of the turnovers happen in the NZ. it's best to force the turnover before the other team gets to the center line so they can't dump it in.

  • Would love to see a follow-up on BEATING the neutral zone trap. By the way, watching the Devils play the trap to perfection for a full sixty minutes is the worst experience anyone who likes hockey could possibly experience.

  • @explore1960 good idea!

  • Very informative. Good explanation.

  • Very well explained.

  • 1:54 is when the video starts.

  • Great explanation and video. I don't understand why this is called a "neutral zone" trap when this example doesn't occur in the neutral zone. The January '11 Hockey News issue (P.12) has a decent diagram of the same formation in the neutral zone.

  • @Milennium3 thanks - great question. it's called the neutral zone trap because most of the turn-overs end up happening in the neutral zone. There are a few different ways to run a trap. i prefer "setting" the trap as part of the forecheck in the offensive zone. Doing it this way is a bit more agressive, and opens the possibility of an offensive zone turn-over with a subsequent scoring chance. Worst case scenario, you don't manage to cause the turn-over until the neutral zone... Cheers :)
