  • This Pacman JR not Miss Pacman

  • @playmad99 It is Ms Pac-Man. I owned both Ms Pac-Man & Pac-man Jr. You can't tell she's wearing a bow? Plus the first level is pink. & the music is The Ms. Pac-Man intro Also, Pac-man Jr gameplay is far more intense.

  • I used to play this game when I was around 6. This brings me back!

  • Great port, though the emulation in this video is a tad imperfect (the sound/tune at the start being a good example).

  • yes i remember the pac man on atrari i was like 6 or 7more like 7 evan atthate age i thought it sucked

  • Woah! It's like a good pacman game!

  • Poor 'ol Pac-Man. Always being outshined by his wife.

  • @HypersonicHero Ms, not Mrs.

  • @karatekid778

Sure, but he becomes married to her in those little cutscenes of the arcade version. Not that it matters, though, i can see where you're going.

  • @HypersonicHero Does he?

I haven't played the Arcade Version.

  • @karatekid778

Yup, he even has a kid with her who went on to star in his own game, Jr. Pac-Man. If that's not marriage, I don't know what is. The new game, 'Pac-Man Divorce' should make her name legit again though.

  • thus proving my theory that pacman on atari2600 would have been better if they spent more time on it.

  • Does anyone remember the original 2600 baseball or football? These were bigger jokes than either Pac Man game.

  • With its limited capabilities, Ms. Pac Man couldn't be just like the arcade machines But this game showed how much better Pac Man could have been for Atari 2600.

  • Whoa, what's up with the intro music at 0:15ish? Only the last half sounds right.

  • @ThrilloVanHouten music on atari wasnt easy to make

  • I can so imagine people in the late 70s and early 80s playing this while stoned or drunk. LOL

  • you are good at that game, its awesome to play =)

  • Better than the other Pac Man, but there is still flickering ghost, horrible sounds and bad graphics, i prefer to spend money on a Pac-Man arcade than play this for free.

  • @RockBand971 - Dude. It's Atari. Besides, there were lotsa other ports of the game.

  • @super58173 Have you seen the commercial? The game looks like the arcade one, but the real product looks lie ****

  • @RockBand971 - Yeah, I saw it, but since when could a 2600 make noises like that?

  • @RockBand971: That's like expecting a cheeseburger from McDonald's to look the cheeseburger in their advertisements.

  • @bl4ckw1ngz64 That's the best example i ever heard

  • @bl4ckw1ngz64 That's the best example i ever heard

  • This should have been PACMAN!

  • At least it was better than the original Pac-Man for the 2600.

  • This is how the Atari 2600's Pac-Man should have been.

  • lol...the memories....

  • The engine in this game defines one ghost/pacman per scanline. if there's more than that it flickers. In the original one it's one ghost per frame.

  • Hmm, I actually like the old one better.

  • For this being on an Atari 2600 and it having 4-bit sounds its kinda ironic that the sound of Ms Pac-Man eating the pellets is the EXACT same sound as Junior Pac-Man on the arcade.

  • @teakz89 It is not the same at all! Jr. Pac-Man makes more of a "wop" sound.

  • ms pac man is a drugged bitch, she eats cocaine lines instead of dots

  • The sound effects were so much more better than the the 2600 version of Pac-man.

  • i liked both versions.

  • the same 2600 as the dreaded Pac man Port? Seems Ray Kasar actually gave these programmers more time? This is what Pac Man port Should have looked like this. Don't even talk about ET!

  • @Terminator2552 E.T. is a good game! It is so underrated cause of lazy people that dont read the manual and therefore, dont know how to even play the game.

  • que chingon es recordar la infancia tan solo con los sonidos de este vido juego,,

  • Round Ms. Pac-Man! A decent approximation of the arcade's sound effects! Multicolored ghosts! A maze that looks like the arcade version! And THE FRUIT! Oh sweet mother the fruit is back!

  • this is awful. thanks god for good gaming now

  • @WiiKid100 old games kick new games ass

  • This game was better made than the original PacMan atari made. The atari game had a bizarre maze layout and PacMan looked like a pringles potato chip.

  • well its cinda teleporting

  • This one is WAY better than the Pac-Man for the Atari...

    Wow..... seriously just wow.

  • I should add that "sprite flicker" is a common problem across all 8-bit consoles and computers

    .

There's sprite flicker on my Commodore 64, on the Nintendo NES, on the Sega Master System, and so on. It's inevitable. It you've only got 4-8 sprites and have to draw more enemies than that, you will get sprite multiplexing and flicker

    .

One of the "fixes" on the new Atari 7800 ProSystem was to give it 128 sprites, to eliminate flicker. Too bad the console flopped

    .

  • There are two flaws with this game:

    - the ghosts are dumb and run randomly rather than chase Ms. Pac-Man

    - the ghosts move slow

    .

In the actual arcade game, the ghosts are constantly on your tail, and the red one (Speedy) runs faster than you do, so he can chase you down. That makes the arcade a challenge, while the Atari VCS/2600 is a cakewalk

    .

Jr. Pac-Man corrects both these flaws and is a 99% accurate port of the arcade.

  • @harleykman, in the arcade, the ghosts had their own "personality." The red ghost (Blinky) chases you, the pink ghost (Pinky) ambushes you, the blue ghost (Inky) is unpredictable, and the orange ghost (Sue) is also a little unpredictable.

  • This is soooooo primitive now. And I remember being 8 y.o. and being jealous that my neighbor had this and I didn't.

  • This is really not THAT bad for the 2600. At least Ms Pacman is fast and changes directions (unlike her disaster of a boyfriend)

  • a little less buggy than original pacman for the atari

  • SCARY!

  • This is only minutely a better translation of the arcade game than the 2600 Pac Man was..which was a generic disaster..nothing like the arcade..but then..back then a 1 bit home console was considered powerful..yep, the good ole 80s..

  • @DjJohnnyM68 Actually the 2600 was 8 bit

  • @DjJohnnyM68 the 2600 is 8bit :P

  • This looks better than the original.

  • This is excellent for Atari 2600, except when you make rapid input, you stick in a wall...

  • Unlike the previous game, Atari put an invisible barrier in the walls of the maze. So instead of randomly teleporting, the ghost bounce back and forth in the walls making them flicker in the same position their in. At least they cleared THAT problem. =P

  • Ms. PacMan can play with my Joystick anytime!

  • @jephsteph

    =0

  • pacman was worse.. i wonder whats up whit the flicckering ghosts in these games

  • @dylstew

Atari used to use a kind of programming "cheat" to get that many sprites to display on the screen (The 2600 was very limited, and based on "Pong" technology). Effectively, there was only one ghost on the screen at any given time, and they were drawn in turns. It was done rapidly, so that it looked as though there were four ghosts.

Recording that with video makes the flickering appear much, much worse.

  • If you only have 2 sprites to display 6 moving items, you will have to multiplex them, resulting in flickering when more than 2 of them are on the same height.

  • @thorstenguenther

    and the power pellets?

  • The power pellets and normal pellets are just part of the background (hence the same colour and the low horizontal resolution). As the 2600 already needs the CPU to write every single line synced to the TV, the blinking is done by just alternatingly drawing them and leaving them.

  • This is significantly better than the version of Pac-Man for the 2600 (anything would be). At least the action is reasonably arcade-like, and the sounds are a lot less grating.

  • Wow. Looks like the programmers put about 15 minutes more into designing this over the original 2600 disaster.

  • bettr than the pac man one

  • Think Ms pac man farts?

  • Well...at least I can see where the ghost are going. no complaints, better than her husband's shitty game for the same system.

  • i thought pacman ate seeds in this he's eating lines

  • wow! unlike in the pac man conversion, you can actually see more than one ghost at once, and ms. pac man actually turns to make corners! high tech man!

  • All I can say is that it's a HUGE improvement over that Piece of SHIT Pac-Man port.

  • @The8BitWarrior awww !! Why you wanna go & talk bad about shit like that ? :( lol

  • @The8BitWarrior

    But that's not saying much...

  • @The8BitWarrior Guys u do realize thats because Pacman was a prototype when this guy made it and atari Decides to release the prototype! lol

  • @The8BitWarrior Junior Pac-Man was better.

  • @The8BitWarrior I SO DAMN AGREE!

  • Much better than the horrible pacman port.

  • Il est plus jouable que Pac-Man sur Atari 2600 en tout cas

  • This was well worth $39.99 at Toys R Us at the time that Dad bought me for x-mas. I was 13 years old at the time. :)

  • yea this game seems much more complete than pac man for it despite the little ghost flickering. but pac man was actually an incomplete protoype that was rushed to game stores. this game, not so much.

  • That game proved that a faithful Pacman could have been done too but Atari was too lazy to do a good job and rushed it out.

  • Man what an improvement over the first Pac-man. This amazes me that they actually put some EFFORT into the game. Who'd of thunk it hurr hurr hurr

  • 27 years ago xD!!!

    old skool shit

    OMG TEH SOUND EFFECT

  • Looks much better than the PacMan port Atari did. Still "somewhat" crude, but much better. I believe Activision made the best games for this console, hands down.

  • Hell yeah. Pitfall 2 was probably the most impressive feat for he atari 2600. Love that game.

  • i was just thinking that. activision did make the best 2600 games with the excellent pitfall 2, river raid and decathlon.

  • i know that's why they're still making plenty of good games unlike atari

  • Indeed. Activision really put a lot of effort and care on those games, squeezing every drop of performance possible out of the 2600. I still remember my favorite games for the 2600 as Activision games, not Atari's (which were, except for a few, kind of clunky.)

  • Did you know that the original Pacman that Atari released in the 2600 was a prototype.

  • It's true that it was an enhanced version of a previous prototype. But it wouldn't be fair to say it was a prototype. Much work went into turning that prototype into a real game after Atari acquired the rights from Namco. What happened is that they only had 6 weeks to finish it, so the programmer chose to build on top of the prototype rather than rewritting it from scratch.

  • looks like it's on an emulator, the sound is not quite right

  • The start music sounds like my christmas decoration.

    Anyways, nice remake.

    Nice.

  • When I had my 2600, this game hardly if ever left my console. Looking back on it now. Why did Atari get it right with Ms. Pac-Man, and fail SO BADLY with the original Pac-Man.

  • Pac-Man was overly rushed.

  • yeah for the christmas season, just like ET :\

  • Probably the best arcade port for the 2600. Great stuff.

  • jr pac-man was the best port for the atari 2600 but this one is close to being the best.
