@NoobSaibot911 Yes, Jon English. Coach Wally English's son. 1979 Went to Michigan State, spent 1980 with jr. college before Transferring to Iowa State in 1980. Couldn't break into the starting line up. Mean while Dan gets hired by Tulane, Jon played for Tulane while his court case with NCAA proceeded. He claimed since he had waited out a year the first time he transferred, and the by-laws use the term "first", He was exempt during a second transfer. The NCAA didn't agree; "first" mean "last".
Hey AVSEAL, I hope you don't mind but I posted your very well done video on the Daily Norseman today. Hope you don't mind. My user name is Abba7 over there. Take care.
As a Vikings fan I will say it's true that the Vikings do go through many QB's, but you know that the Vikings have had some of the best players in other positions during their prime. I'll still stick with the Vikings even though we haven't won a SB, it'll just fuel the desire for one.
@mAzDaR20 I think that just about every team has gotten burned by the Vikings at least once. I went to school with a few guys who used to be die hard LA Rams fans of the old LA Rams team with Roman Gabriel, Merlin Olson, etc but the Vikings always seemed to have the Rams number, especially when they played @ Met Stadium. My buddies always used to tell me that the Vikings were the luckiest team on the face of the earth, and in some respects they were but they still had great teams and ballplayers
Damn, The Vikings sure had a hard time getting a decent QB, lol - I think out of all these suckers listed off, only 3 or 4 names rang a bell, lol - Its a dead giveaway that these guys stuggled for a QB when most of these guys are in some other teams uniform, lol
One can only laugh at a half century of futility!! The viklings have never drafted and developed a good QB. Tarkenton was nothing until acquired by trade from the NY Giants. You cannot watch this video slideshow without laughing about the poor QB's and the correlation with trophylessness. Only the viklings and the Detroit Lions do not have a George Halas Trophy amongst the NFC teams. The Lions at least have multiple World Championships while the viklings have zero. LOL!! Legacy of Losing!
@Bob2000system Acutally the Vikings won a NFL Championship that was before the Super Bowl Yes Lions won 4 of NFL Championship but Lions were established in 1928 Vikings were establishes in 1961 and the superbowl started in 1967 and Vikings have 26 playoff apperance and the Lions only have 14 ,and Vikes had Daunte Culpepper just the acl tore ruined his carrer don't froget the Lions 0-16 season
@kittykat3296 The vikings won no NFL championships before the establishment of the Super Bowl. World Champions is a title given to the best football team in the World. Since 1967 that has meant the winner of the Super Bowl. The Vikings have never won a Super Bowl. I challenge you to find one photograph of the vikings team holding up a trophy of any kind. The vikings have no trophies because they have not won anything. The vikings have never been the best team in football.
Bob2000 is right. Winning a "championship" means winning your last postseason game. The Vikings have never done that; they lost Super Bowl 4. The Vikings have never won a championship; the Lions have.
@WCD73 No. Larry Miller of Northern Iowa was a strike game quarterback, who I could not find an image of. Comedian Larry Miller was in a football related movie, so every search for "Larry Miller, Football" came up with the comedian. So I put him in there.
living in manitoba i support my beloved winnipeg football, but living directly above minnesota i must make my favorite nfl team the vikings. plus the vikings have one of the greatest uniforms
im a packers fan and i believe historicly the vikes are overrated they have been around forever and havent won shit they always fuck up in the big games the packers have the most history in the division probaly in the nfc but im not saying there the best nfc team ever but ya you no ur team is cursed when u cant win a championship with fran tarkenton and alan page and his purple people eaters
This project only covers 1961-2009. In other news 2010 is the last year of Tom Brady's contract with the Patriots. One theory is that the Patriots Organization may view his as replaceable and that it is the team & the schemes that won the Super Bowls and not just Tom Brady. So Tom Brady, Minnesota Viking QB in 2011?
Jeff George baby!!! haha that might of been his best year EVER in his career with the Viks, why didn't he stay there? he actually might of done something there
Tony Adams played for the the Southern California Suns of Anaheim, CA during the 1974 season. The team was part of the World Football Leauge that lasted from 1974 to 1975. NFL films Lost Treasures series has an episode devoted to the W.F.L. on the internet.
@pizzlestuff Agreed. Presently I'm working on 32 separate projects illustrating the Quarterbacks drafted by each team since the 1936 Draft. I plan to post shortly after the 2010 Draft.
@pizzlestuff oh I beg to differ.....randall cunningham was nowhere near garbage - remember he led them to 15 - 1 season and should of went to the superbowl ,
OK, as a life-long MN Vikings fan, there were some errors with this video. Jeff George was not the QB in 1998. He replace Randall Cunningham in the fall of 1999. Also, Todd Bauman was NOT on the team in 1998. That was the season of Cunningham/Brad Johnson/ Jay Fiedler.
Otherwise, thanks for bringing back some painful memories of bad QBs who wore purple over the years!
Actually I plan to make a video for each team, tried to produce the teams that had a stable starting Quarterback first. I presently have scanned jpegs of 85% of NFL starting QBs since 1954. Personally I'm a St. Louis Rams fan riding the downward spiral of a 1-15 season.
During the 1979 Draft, Bill Walsh of the 49ers had the 82nd pick which was used to add Joe Montana. Steve Dils of Stanford was the next QB drafted with the 97th pick. If Walsh had passed on Montana, Dils would haved been developed in the 49ers program. Who know what might have been.
Pretty fun post. Thanks AV. Funny how Cunningham dropped from the scene so soon after that record setting offensive year of 1998. Anybody have some insight on that?
Assuming Brett Favre is done with football. In 2010 do they resign Tavarius Jackson or try to acquire veteran QB who is not a starter. Kerry Collins comes to mind.
The Eagles have 3 QBs with contracts up after 2010. So it is a poker game with the other teams right know. Kolb is either ready or another U. of Houston QB Bust. If you were going let McNabb go wouldn't it be to an AFC team. L
Nice spelling--try "are" instead of "our"--one Superbowl victory doesn't make up for 40+ years of bad Saints teams. "True dat Bitch"--??--back to ghetto school for you . . .
Good point! But I have stocked up on the appropiate "cold weather beverages" just in case....I am just damn proud they made it this year to this point! GO VIKES!
Aw, Rufus! Not painful at all, lots of tradition there with MVP's, Hall of Famers, and Super Bowl winning QB's. We even had Payton and Eli's Daddy! He'll be rooting for the Vikes Sunday and NOT his other team, the Saints ! ! !
I believe that Jeff George played on the Vikings in 1999 when he led the Vikings to a 10 and 6 record and got to play the ST. Louis Rams in the playoffs that year. In 1998 Randall Cunningham was the starter for most of the season after Brad Johnson fell to injury during the beginning of the season. In 1999 Randall Cunningham played the first game against the Falcons in a 17-14 victory but was injured and with Johnson on the Redskins, Jeff George became the starter and led them to the playoffs
thx, as an Eagles fan and probably Cunningham's first true fan i was glad to see him win an MVP. Too bad no SB. I still remember him coming off the bench to replace Jaworski, he had such a nice spiral, he was so tall, i was like "i like this dude" where did they find him" Of coarse Buddy Ryan didn't respect offense and sent Chris Carter away....oh the life of an Eagles fan, now we have a coach that doesn't rspect the running game!
wow, my memory reall sucks. I honeslty thought in 99 when the Vikings were 15-1 that he won. Must have been close, Terrell Davis was friggin' awesome... shame about injuries.
You can rip on Wynn all you want, but how many of you clowns ever came close to making the NFL? Hey Firefox, Kapp never had big stats or a great arm for that matter, but how many QB'S had his guts and determination on the playing field, if you're a true fan, you gotta include Joe in Vikings history. The only misconception is your criticism. I wonder if a loud mouth like yourself even put the pads on once?
Larry Miller of Northern Iowa, played during the 1987 NFL Strike games. The picture is of the comedian, and not the quarterback. I could never find a picture of the quarterback.
I thought that looked like Larry Miller the comedian! That is pure genious on your part, Seal! Also, it was good to see Spurgeon Wynn again, haha,NOT! ! ! You need a current photo of Brett, I'll post a video response of him !
thanks for the response. it sounded so damn familiar...like a lost friend who calls you out of the blue after 20 years. it really soars as an orchestral piece.
tarkenton, kapp and kramer: best of the bunch...of course, larry miller is the stand out here, and had the greatest potential of all. i heard he quit to go into comedy. and, bubby brister had the best name of all qbs....i take that back, sage rosenfels goes to the top of that list.
I think it's a misconception about Joe Kapp. Kapp only played for the Vikings for 3 years. He only had 1 decent year and was apart of a great 1969 Viking team that went to the Super Bowl. Then he went to the Patriots for one forgettable year, and that was it. He had 40 TDs and 64 INTs in just 51 career games. His Super Bowl appearance cements his memory, but without that, he would be just another forgettable quarterback.
ya but here in Canada, joe kapp was legendary, he was the man...and when he went to the NFL he brought that incredible toughness, he'd run over defenders...maybe not an incredible QB but definately did some damage, and fun to watch.
Tarkenton is the only truly great QB whose legend is in Minnesota. thanks to the 1970's. The only other QBs with long tenures in Minnesota are probably Tommy Kramer, who was merely alright, and Daunte Culpepper, who had the benefit of Randy Moss and a strong arm. Other than that, it's a lot of stopgaps. I think we missed the chance of having a really good tenure with Brad Johnson when we dumped him after '98 for Cunningham. That worked out real well. So, ya, fairly disappointing list here.
It certainly has been so far. I can confidently say this is one of the two best Minnesota Viking team since the "Purple People Eater" years of the 1970's. It's a pretty special year and it's a lot of fun. Hopefully the Vikings can get a QB in next year's draft that will go on to have a great Viking career. That's something we haven't had. The Packers have one in Aaron Rogers.
Really, your the child of Jay "Sky" Walker started at Long Beach St. then transferred to Howard Univ. when LBSU discontinued it's football program. I'll refrain from the obvious Star Wars references.
Larry Miller of I-AA Northern Iowa played in the three strike games for the Vikings. Pictured is the comedian Larry Miller from the movie "Necessary Roughness" (1991). If your Northern Iowa are you put up a tribute picture to Larry Miller or Kurt Warner?
Sad we've only had like 1 QB that was good his whole career, frank tarkenton.

Who's Sean Glennen? And wasn't Jeff George here in '99?

the song is Friends by Led Zep, not Battle of Evermore.

Larry Miller of Northern Iowa, played during the 1987 NFL Strike games. The picture is of the comedian, and not the quarterback. I could never find a picture of the quarterback.
AVSEAL2012 2 years ago
I thought that looked like Larry Miller the comedian! That is pure genious on your part, Seal! Also, it was good to see Spurgeon Wynn again, haha,NOT! ! ! You need a current photo of Brett, I'll post a video response of him !
Thanks buddy, this was GREAT ! ! !

an Orchestral version of Led Zepplin's Battle of Evermore.
AVSEAL2012 2 years ago
thanks for the response. it sounded so damn familiar...like a lost friend who calls you out of the blue after 20 years. it really soars as an orchestral piece.
gardenvarietypenis 2 years ago
actually it's an orchestral version of led zeppelin's "friends" (led zeppelin 3), but thanks for putting me on the right track.

tarkenton, kapp and kramer: best of the bunch...of course, larry miller is the stand out here, and had the greatest potential of all. i heard he quit to go into comedy. and, bubby brister had the best name of all qbs....i take that back, sage rosenfels goes to the top of that list.
god, the vikings have had some suck ass qbs.

I dunno, King Hill ('68)is a pretty badass name too

So, ya, fairly disappointing list here.

brett favre, newest quarterback for a minnesota vikings. this is going to be a great season
brianizaninjaa 2 years ago
It certainly has been so far. I can confidently say this is one of the two best Minnesota Viking team since the "Purple People Eater" years of the 1970's. It's a pretty special year and it's a lot of fun. Hopefully the Vikings can get a QB in next year's draft that will go on to have a great Viking career. That's something we haven't had. The Packers have one in Aaron Rogers.

Really, your the child of Jay "Sky" Walker started at Long Beach St. then transferred to Howard Univ. when LBSU discontinued it's football program. I'll refrain from the obvious Star Wars references.

Excellent job here friend. You have shed light as to why the Vikings have stunk so much ever since Tarkenton retired.
I'm 48, fat , bald, cant' throw , run or play, I'm out of shape AND out of a job.
The good news is........ I now have an idea who may hire me !!

You are correct, sir!
