@bowulf Thank you so much I'm new to Atkins and really appreciate you for doing this and giving us so many wonderful Ideas. I could not find any vanilla syrup in my hometown so I made some by using ...vanilla bean 2c water and 2 cups of splenda > Is this ok? Please let me know. Thank you
@johnsmommy1980 That should be fine, but you don't necessarily need to make a whole batch at a time. I would just add a little more liquid, vanilla extract, and splenda to taste to the original recipe.
@fracsred liquid or granulated Splenda would be analogous to the DaVinci, increase the water content and add some vanilla extract as well. You'll have to play with the amount of sweetness added as I am unaware of any conversion chart for DaVinci to sweetness content. As a starting point, I would add 3/4cup total cup of granulated Splenda.

@bowulf It says "per 1/8 Recipe", but how much carbs is there per 100g? 7g Fat, 9g protein and 3g carbs = 19 g = 1/8 recipe. That's almost 16% carbs. That's too much for a LCHF diet... should always be under 10%. Or maybe I'm just a little extreme ;)
@DenPilske First the percentage - I just did the math. This recipe's total Calories is 9.16% from carbohydrates.
As for whether 10% is the maximum number of carbs a low carber should eat, you have to realize two things. First, this is obviously not intended as a meal replacement, and one needs to evaluate their day as a whole. Otherwise, foods like pumpkin or strawberries would never be allowed.
Second, many people following a LCHF diet increase carbs as the progress to maintenance.
@DenPilske (cont) Many people at maintenance eat between 60-120g of Carbs per day, and easily maintain their weight loss. I would still say they are following a low carb diet or lifestyle. It may not be ketogenic, but that's not necessarily needed for all people and was not what Dr. Atkins recommended.

@kitkat56ful In all my recipes, the amount of each ingredient is listed in video description, which you may need to click "Show More" to see. This one for instance is:
I have been missing my chocolate bars something fierce! Nice to know I can get the protien powder at Wal-mart. I think I need to go to Walmart right now. Your recipes have really been a diet saver for me so I want to say thank you.
love your videos..I am a newbie, when buying sugar free syrups what should I look for, I have some SF Starbucks is it ok on IDK diet. and what sugars should I totally try to avoid..
@LUCANDIS Look at the ingredients and nutrition label. if the sweetener is sucralose, it's good. If it contains sugar alcohols or aspartame, there are better ones to get.
Any ADDED sugars should be avoided. That is any food with additional sugar added to the ingredients label. You might want to watch my video "are all sugars eliminated?" and label reading quiz videos.
Hi. I don't like Splenda or stevia. They both have a very bad aftertaste that makes me nauseous :( Is there any other kind of sugar free sweetener I could use? Thanks!
@bowulf some of these people on here are so dumb... Ive lost 80 pounds on low carb, and you are an inspiration to me to lose the last 20 pounds i have to go. I love your recipes, im 19 and i have school, work, and being a mom...and your recipes are fast, easy, and yummy :)... and your good looking as well ; )
@AMarshall00 Thanks for the very kind words. I am glad my recipes and my story could help inspire you to get to goal, but big congrats go to you for losing 80 pounds already. Good job!
@Jodyfaye17 It can be any syrup, but other syrups may obviously change the flavor of the bar for better or worse. Say caramel syrup may be pretty tasty if it was not too strong.
@DrChrisPro I should believe you and not the multiple long term studies on the low carb lifestyle that demonstrate its healthy results. Check out my Atkins Diet Misconception series and specifically the lack of long term studies if you want to be on topic.
@Slaterking2010 But 6 years of fantastic annual physicals, blood work, years of above average or excellent athletic performance, does however indicate a level of health. Atkins Diet is fantastic for my health in specific, and many others in general.
@bowulf For me atkins diet would kill me off. I workout and my gym trainer told me to eat plenty of carbs and fibre and protein and reduce fatty foods.
@Slaterking2010 For me I would have to find a different, mroe knowledgeable trainer. I workout at least 6 times a week, train for 5k sprints as well as marathons, and do HIIT interval workouts in the gym. Reducing the amount of fatty foods would eliminate my primary source and best source of energy. To each their own.
@bowulf YOU work out? What disease do you have that you look so flabby then? BS-itis?Also, you appear to be half awake and in ill health at all times on your videos. If you are taking supplements, they're not the right ones!
@morethansalt Let's see, I have run multiple full and half marathons in the last few years. As for flabby, you do realize I lost 211 pounds - half my body weight. It is inevitable to have some damage to you skin.
In other words, troll, good luck but you can find someone else to bug.
@sandokan2112 What are you talking about. I have been doing this for the past year and am fitter, stronger and thinner and leaner then before. It has worked. I had an all over body test (BMI, wasit to hip ratio and my blood checked) all was very good.
@towtoxgta And deal with the sugar cravings and the blood glucose roller coaster, nah... I'll take eating right and running 45 minutes like I did last night.
@bowulf you only get sugar cravings at the very beginning, later on you get used to it and don't even care about not eating sweet things, is just like they didn't exist. I laughed when my doctor told me that... But it was true!! And I 'couldn't live' without taking coffee with 1 or 2 pieces of sweet bread in the morning... at lunch and dinner!! OMG :S
hi, ive got some atkins chocolate bars, it says it has 1.8 net carbs but then i looked at the back and it said total carbs is 16 grams of carbs per bar and it said its induction friendly. i dont think thats really induction friendly if its 16 grams of carbs per bar but only 1.8 grams of net carbs. what happens to the rest of the other carbs?
@Daisyacero Check out my net carbs video for a more complete answer. My feeling is all bars are not Induction friendly. They are made with ingredients not on the acceptable foods list. As to how they calculate their net carbs, they exclude things like glycerin (same stuff people make soap of) from the total carbs in addition to fiber.
@Daisyacero You subtract fiber from carbs...say there is 10 carbs in a bar but there's also 5 grams of fiber in it.. You simply subtract 5 grams of fiber from total carb and come out with 5 g of net carb. Body doesn't ingest fiber.
@angelbrenda The best answer I could give you is check out my "Can I eat this on Induction?" video where I list exactly what can be eaten and what can't be. If the ingredients aren't on the list, it isn't Induction friendly.
I would specifically look for the presence or non-presence of the following ingedients:
"1/4 cup natural chunky peanut butter
1 cup chocolate whey protein powder"
(I am sure you can read between the lines on what the answer is.)
@thedietgeek I agree. Making it yourself gives you the capability to control the quality of the ingredients, and eliminates a lot of the chemicals that get put into commercially produced stuff.
@angelwings0428 I don't think it will work as the protein powder adds bulk to it where an unsweetened chocolate at best would be more like chocolate bark.
Thank you so much!! I really needed this. And it was fantastic! I saw your videos, and started reading the book... I have been on atkins for a month.... Thank you for your videos, they inspired me to start. (I am from Chile)
HI, would you mind telling which brand of protein powder you use? I went to wal mart and looked, but none of the ones there had fewer than about 3 carbs per scoop. thanks for making your videos. they're helpful and inspirational!
@lilyflowertulip I am using the Optimum Nutrition "100% WHEY GOLD STANDARD" protein powder. It is sweetened with AceK not sugar like their natural brand. I buy it from either Amazon or Netrition, but I also prefer the Isopure Zero Carb Protein powder.
"While any of these foods can make doing Atkins easier, don't overdo it. Remember, you
must always follow the Rules of Induction.
Here are five common pitfalls to avoid: 1. During Induction you must not eat any fruit, bread, grains, starchy vegetables or dairy products other than cheese, cream or butter.
2. Stay away from diet products unless they specifically state "no carbohydrates." Most such foods are for low-fat diets, not controlled carbohydrate plan"
Love your channel. Do you think Stevia would work well with this recipe? Also, where did you get the SF syrup? Thanks, can't wait to try this tomorrow!
I think Stevia would probably work. I haven't tried it myselfy yet, but if I used a granulated product for this (not if I used one of the liquid Stevia products) I would add a little liquid to the mix as well. I would consider adding a bit of vanilla too. Let me know how it turns out...
Thanks for the quick reply. One more question. I have been on carb for about 3 weeks now and love it. I am never tired, tons of energyand never really hungry. Lost 16 lbs. so far.
I decided to try the induction phase to maybe boost my metabolism. I made breakfast this morning:
4 eggs
1 cup broccoli
1/2 cut mushrooms
2 tablespoons butter
1 Tbs minced garlic
After subtracting the fiber grams I am already at half the days carb count 9.6
According to Fitday, you have had around 8.5g total carbs with 2.6g of Fiber -- making your carb count for the day 5.9g. You have another 1.5 cups of salad veggies you can eat. Depending on what veggies you select (peppers, leaf lettuce, mushrooms, etc.), your options are pretty open. You have nearly 75% of your carbs left for the day.
You can still have 3-4 oz of cheese, 1-2 oz of Heavy Cream, Lemon Juice. Just listing them, I am thinking alfredo sauce, but the options are pretty open.
Continued........Is this correct? To stay under 20 grams, I am not sure what I could eat for the rest of the day other than straight meat. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
In the 2002 version of the book, Atkins never suggested bars for Induction. The closest he comes was:
"" Although it is important that you eat primarily unprocessed foods, some controlled carb food products can come in handy when you are unable to find appropriate food, can't take time for a meal or need a quick snack. As I mentioned earlier, more and more companies are creating healthy food products that can be eaten during the Induction phase of Atkins. "
Why wouldn't a low carb whey powder be allowed during induction? Does it really make your blood sugar spike more than those atkins bars with all the sugar alcohols?
Remember Induction is more than just eating under a specific carb level. It is about eating the right basic foods to the stage for future losses. (Check out my Induction - not simply 20g or less video). The reason is obviously not everything on the ingredients label is on the acceptable foods list, and you are allowed only to eat foods from that list at least for the first 14 days. You can then progress to OWL and the rungs.
As for bars,.when have you heard me suggest them for Induction.
Oops I accidentally deleted BigWhey's comment, here it was:
BigWhey:
"I don't guess I've ever heard you suggest the bars, however, atkins says they are ok for induction. Is this a case of Atkins just trying to make more money off a product?"
So he grudgingly accepted them in the diet, but stated you had to follow the rules of Induction. Remember also that Atkins Nutritional was not necessarily led by the diet center arm.
Atkins always enforced as much unprocessed foods as possible.
Where is the chocolate? I didn't see you add it. Is it in the protein powder? Then, for some reason the video cut off after you say you recommend chunky pb. No finishing directions. Do you bake? Refrigerate? How many servings does this make?
My Dr. recommended low carb, not everyone's body digests food the same, I have an allergy to wheat, so I have no choice unless I want a to be sick on the "high" fiber diet recommended. Lets look at this, over the last 30 years, America has adopted a highly processed food diet and is now more obese than ever. If you took the time to look at a low carb diet you would see that it is a natural food diet, and that as you progress you add fruits and starches as you teach your body to use them wisely.
Absolutely right... I am not saying it should be mandatory for everyone, but the obsession over low fat or even low Calorie at the expense of real food or quality food. 100 Calorie Twinkies or cookie packs while both low fat and low Cal are not healthy options.
Low carb is a natural extension and personally is closer to how people used to eat before sugar was added to everything. People get to experience their food closer to how nature intended not how man made it.
Really a gimmick is creating a whole food category where none existed before with much less science backing it up than ketogenic and low carb diets have.
I spent six years running a kilometer and a half every other day and eating according to the Food Pyramid. I reached my ideal weight but was sick and weak all the time, my joints ached, and I STILL had rolls of fat around my waist and neck; at some point my body had stopped dropping fat and began eliminating muscle tissue.
I dropped forty pounds in the first four months on Atkins, never went hungry, and I've never felt better. Food-reaction headaches? All gone!
no offence at all but how did u get obeyse? i mean was it that u where eat fast food like 6x a day, or was it that u weren't exercising, or did u just grow up behing overweigh, when u where in high school where u overweigh? no offence at all just want to know
I got obese eating the wrong things, too much of the wrong things, and not exercising. I would eat only at meal times, but I would never get full. It was not the sweet stuff, but the savory stuff -- Chinese buffet, pizza buffet, etc. -- that doomed me. I was overweight as a kid, underweight (180 pounds) last few years of high school and basic training, and then the weight gradually came on after that. I really added the weight on after I left the Guard in 98 and started working long hours.
i'm currently on the atkins and wonder why so many people are bein so negative towards it, yes i can eat what i like if i chose and stay overweight with high cholesterol or i can atkins shed weight fast, 99% guaranteed and have a lower cholesterol, i then have the option to slowly bring carbs back but no sugar or processed food, brown breads, fresh fruits etc.
the way i see it is what i ate before which was anything and alot, was doing more damage to me than the atkins.
Very true... The cynics never seem to grasp the other side of the coin of what our lives were before and what we already have attempted and failed. Good job in working the plan!
Just to update you i am now 71 pounds down and i am loving the LC life. I am eating more veggies now than ever. They are just the right kind. I love your recipe videos i have made some of them and they turn out perfect.
That is fantastic news! Excellent job in both losing the weight and proving all the critics of the "meat and cheese and more meat" diet wrong. Keep on the success track you are on.
OK , ill do another comment for this video... My mom has a degree in health education, which means she has taken moderate nutrition classes......she sais the atkins diet is unhealthy because it is unbalanced plain and simple.. I know you atkins guys must feel it.... depriving yourself of carbs and fruit sugars.. yikes.. i feel bad for u guys i really do......dosnt a diet where u loose so much weight seem a bit to good to be true.. hell why dont u just stop eating all together
I am happy for your mom, but unfortunately that doesn't make her right. I'll trust the word of actual cardiologists, multiple university researchers, nutritionists, and heck even the ADA (Diabetic Association) and the Heart Association who are either advocating low carb for their patients or in the case of the heart association drastically reducing all sugar intake.
Don't feel bad for me -- I am the living the good life. I can eat wings, salad, and have plenty of energy for a run.
Let's see a diet where I lose little and stay well near 400 pounds sounds better? What is unbalanced about it? Whose idea of balance is best? Why does balance require you to eat refined sugars and starches? Does everyone need a little candy bar, donut, french fry, white bread, pizza crust in their life?
If that is your idea of balance, I will take my balanced diet of meats, veggies, dairy, fruits, nuts, and seeds any day.
guys just please be aware that starving yourselfs of carbs and fruit is going to be unhealthy in the long run.... dont lie to yourselfs..... if your craving an orange really bad its cause u need a fuckin orange.. best of luck
Explain to me how carbs are necessary OR that Atkins diet eliminates either entirely.
Fact is most people don't crave an orange. They crave the sugar fix in the orange. Your body loves the easy fuel and rush of sugar just like a junkie loves his fix.
As for needing carbs for fuel, I have ran a marathon on 30 net carbs (4-5 cups of veggies) per day. The body runs just fine on fat for fuel source and has many thousands of year before King Corn and Wheat were developed in the 50s & 60s.
you know i really try to restrain myself from responding to inconsiderate people like yourself but i must say that restricting carbs are good for certain people. i have never lost weight on low fat diets and such. i have lost about 30 pounds on this diet and have kept it off. i dont crave like i used too and I dont starve myself either. this channel is for low carber so if you dont agree with it go eat a bag of bread and enjoy what your body turns it into.
just another dipshit buying into the lies of the mainstream. By the way @partyongarth420 I don't EVER crave anything sweet. Hmmm must be something to this way of eating huh!
hahaha peanuts and salt.. isnt there supposed to be soybean oil in there.. i feel sorry for u fattys but i think its good u guys try.. and hell look at u guys.. you lose like 50 pounds. even if u got back.. point is u lost the weight at one point great job
I am 211 pounds down from 429 to 218. Trust me the weight is not coming back. I would encourage you to learn what you do not know, and if you don't need to worry about weight loss now, neither did when I was 20.
Good luck to you, and I hope you never have to regret calling someone else "fatty."
Hey Kent I just wanted to report back that I made it to day number 14!!! induction over but I think I might stay on it for a little longer.....I LOST 16 POUNDS in 14 days!!! YEPPEEE THIS DIET, excuse me" lifestyle" rocks. I love ATKINS =))
Hey I've learned alot from you I lost 66 pounds a yr. ago with Atkins and got tired of it and gained about 10 back now i am ready to start back up and lose 50 more i started induction today! I was watching this video and it ended before you finished is there a part two to this one? After you add the sugar free syrup what do you do?
your luck that this one was uploaded almost two years ago.because as we all know, splenda is not the best way to sweeten this bar.stevia powder or liquid stevia (choclate aviable) would be much much better and would turn this bar into a real healthy (depending if you´re the protein-type or not) product!
Actually, I have tried Stevia in the past and Truvia now, and I haven't preferred it. The knock against Splenda has no weight in my book. Some people are more sensitive to it than others. For me at the quantities (or lack thereof) I consume, I am at no danger from the stuff.
Putting bitter tasting Stevia or erythitol-filled Truvia in the recipe just is not high on my list. I respect those that have issues with Splenda, eggs, peanuts, but I for one do not.
bowulf, for what i know, the bitter aftertaste depends on the brand.i´ve seen other video´s here and did read about stevia few months ago and it did sound like, that stevia isn´t allways stevia.
I have seen way too many people stall while eating them. I also don't agree with their "net impact" carbs for the most part. I only subtract fiber from my total as Dr. A originally recommended. Check out my net carbs video for a little longer answer on this subject.
thanks , i have yo yo dieted with atkins for a while and started again on june1.Just like you i was unable to pass a physical due to high blood pressure and my dream job almost dissapeared, however i managed to postpone the makeup physical.I started on the first at 258 lbs and as of today sunday the 7th im at 249.Thanks for all of the informative videos!!
I eat about 80-100 grams of carbs at every meal and i'm 6'2'' 210 pounds of lean muscle. I agree that perhaps an overabundance of WHITE carbs in the American diet is a contributing factor to obesity, although there's nothing wrong with carbs as a whole. I limit my carbs to low GI carbs which i'm sure you're aware of. WW bread, pasta, rice, yams, most fruits, beans, etc. Slow release which prevents the insulin spike. As for high GI, I need them as well. As soon as i wake up and post workout.
Dr. Atkins was one of the first proponents of a low GI and recognizing the benefits. He also however recognized that there is a difference in how the body reacts to different fuel sources.
The difference I see then is that I fuel my workouts and marathon training on fat as fuel. Why are you scared of fat? (to paraphrase your orig Q) The reason I limit carbs is I am more sensitive to carbs and their effect than I am for fat.
Working out on fat also improves my endurance - no bonk at mile 20.
I am not scared of carbs. I just see the overabundance of them as one of reasons Americans have gotten more obese. I also appreciate NOT having to deal with blood glucose spikes and energy lulls any more.
I have gotten faster, worked out longer, and lifted more weight on less carbs. Excess carbs are just that excess. Train your body to use a more consistent fuel. I'll take the recommendation of Charles Poliquin, professional strength training coach and body building trainer, who promotes lower carb for athletes.
Sorry, but low carb or extremely low fat diets are nothing but detrimental to your gains. I've tried both. Strength is always up when I have a solid amount of carbs and good fats. I wasn't saying that comment to you by the way, but it's allgood.
I'll take the recommendation of a world famous strength training coach and authority in the field -- especially when my own anecdotal history confirms it.
well, are we talking about the same goal´s?guess not!but even if you want to get faster, you don´t really need to SUCK in carbs,if you just add 50-100gramms/day more, it will be enough.and again - we´re not all the same - some can oozz a bottle of cola and DON`T crash and other like me can right after the intake take a nap!
Good carbs obviously bro.. i havent drank a pop in like 10 years. Nothing like a massive bowl of oatmeal before a lift to give me the strength and pump I love.
I know how you feel. I am able to run marathons (4 hours), lift weights, or simply fight fires (volunteer firefighter) for hours without tiring out, so the necessity of carbs for exercise is simply not there. Keep up the great work.
what in the world? where is the rest of the video. You mixed it and that was it.

what's splenda???
HAHAHEHEHOHO17 11 months ago
@HAHAHEHEHOHO17 An artificial sweetener.
bowulf 11 months ago
Oops, didn't mean to send last message. Anyway the label says 8 g total carb. And 8 g sugar alc. Is this comparable to what you used?
Jodyfaye17 11 months ago
@Jodyfaye17 No the stuff I normally use has zero carbs and is sweetened only with Splenda. That may have some GI issues if you use a lot of it.
bowulf 11 months ago
I have a maple SF syrup the label
Jodyfaye17 11 months ago
Made this tonight. Very yummy. Can u use any SF syrup? Or just the vanilla brand?
Jodyfaye17 11 months ago
@Jodyfaye17 It can be any syrup, but other syrups may obviously change the flavor of the bar for better or worse. Say caramel syrup may be pretty tasty if it was not too strong.

Atkins diet is a fail. It kills you. Being thin doesn't mean being healthy.
Slaterking2010 1 year ago
@Slaterking2010 But 6 years of fantastic annual physicals, blood work, years of above average or excellent athletic performance, does however indicate a level of health. Atkins Diet is fantastic for my health in specific, and many others in general.
bowulf 1 year ago
@bowulf For me atkins diet would kill me off. I workout and my gym trainer told me to eat plenty of carbs and fibre and protein and reduce fatty foods.
Slaterking2010 1 year ago
@Slaterking2010 For me I would have to find a different, mroe knowledgeable trainer. I workout at least 6 times a week, train for 5k sprints as well as marathons, and do HIIT interval workouts in the gym. Reducing the amount of fatty foods would eliminate my primary source and best source of energy. To each their own.

Youre trainer is an idiot, trust me.... get rid of him.
If he is telling you to eat lots of carbs and limit your fat then he has no business in the field of nutrition.
Tell him to stick to training, but not giving nutritional advice.
Let me guess he probably tells you that eating egg yolks will raise your cholesterol and eating saturated fat will cause heart disease lol.

hi, ive got some atkins chocolate bars, it says it has 1.8 net carbs but then i looked at the back and it said total carbs is 16 grams of carbs per bar and it said its induction friendly. i dont think thats really induction friendly if its 16 grams of carbs per bar but only 1.8 grams of net carbs. what happens to the rest of the other carbs?
Daisyacero 1 year ago
@Daisyacero Check out my net carbs video for a more complete answer. My feeling is all bars are not Induction friendly. They are made with ingredients not on the acceptable foods list. As to how they calculate their net carbs, they exclude things like glycerin (same stuff people make soap of) from the total carbs in addition to fiber.
bowulf 1 year ago
@Daisyacero You subtract fiber from carbs...say there is 10 carbs in a bar but there's also 5 grams of fiber in it.. You simply subtract 5 grams of fiber from total carb and come out with 5 g of net carb. Body doesn't ingest fiber.

INduction friendly or no???
angelbrenda 1 year ago
@angelbrenda The best answer I could give you is check out my "Can I eat this on Induction?" video where I list exactly what can be eaten and what can't be. If the ingredients aren't on the list, it isn't Induction friendly.
I would specifically look for the presence or non-presence of the following ingedients:
"1/4 cup natural chunky peanut butter
1 cup chocolate whey protein powder"
(I am sure you can read between the lines on what the answer is.)
bowulf 1 year ago
NICE! I like the idea of making it yourself... more natural than pre-packaged stuff! Thanks :)
thedietgeek 1 year ago
@thedietgeek I agree. Making it yourself gives you the capability to control the quality of the ingredients, and eliminates a lot of the chemicals that get put into commercially produced stuff.
bowulf 1 year ago
do you think you could replace the whey protein powder with unsweetened chocolate? Obviously it would up the carb count but just curious.
angelwings0428 1 year ago
@angelwings0428 I don't think it will work as the protein powder adds bulk to it where an unsweetened chocolate at best would be more like chocolate bark.

@lilyflowertulip I am using the Optimum Nutrition "100% WHEY GOLD STANDARD" protein powder. It is sweetened with AceK not sugar like their natural brand. I buy it from either Amazon or Netrition, but I also prefer the Isopure Zero Carb Protein powder.
bowulf 1 year ago
He also says:

Thanks, can't wait to try this tomorrow!
markp64 1 year ago
I think Stevia would probably work. I haven't tried it myselfy yet, but if I used a granulated product for this (not if I used one of the liquid Stevia products) I would add a little liquid to the mix as well. I would consider adding a bit of vanilla too. Let me know how it turns out...
bowulf 1 year ago
Thanks for the quick reply. One more question. I have been on carb for about 3 weeks now and love it. I am never tired, tons of energyand never really hungry. Lost 16 lbs. so far.
I decided to try the induction phase to maybe boost my metabolism. I made breakfast this morning:
4 eggs
1 cup broccoli
1/2 cut mushrooms
2 tablespoons butter
1 Tbs minced garlic
After subtracting the fiber grams I am already at half the days carb count 9.6
grams
markp64 1 year ago
According to Fitday, you have had around 8.5g total carbs with 2.6g of Fiber -- making your carb count for the day 5.9g. You have another 1.5 cups of salad veggies you can eat. Depending on what veggies you select (peppers, leaf lettuce, mushrooms, etc.), your options are pretty open. You have nearly 75% of your carbs left for the day.
You can still have 3-4 oz of cheese, 1-2 oz of Heavy Cream, Lemon Juice. Just listing them, I am thinking alfredo sauce, but the options are pretty open.
bowulf 1 year ago
My fitday count says 13.4 total carbs 3.8 fiber for a net of 9.6
Correction:
Should be 1/2 cup mushrooms
4 large eggs
Not sure why the difference between mine and yours.
Do you have any videos on salad ingredients and salad dressings preferably homemade dressings?
markp64 1 year ago
Continued........Is this correct? To stay under 20 grams, I am not sure what I could eat for the rest of the day other than straight meat. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
markp64 1 year ago
In the 2002 version of the book, Atkins never suggested bars for Induction. The closest he comes was:
"" Although it is important that you eat primarily unprocessed foods, some controlled carb food products can come in handy when you are unable to find appropriate food, can't take time for a meal or need a quick snack. As I mentioned earlier, more and more companies are creating healthy food products that can be eaten during the Induction phase of Atkins. "
bowulf 1 year ago
Why wouldn't a low carb whey powder be allowed during induction? Does it really make your blood sugar spike more than those atkins bars with all the sugar alcohols?
thanks
bigwhey 1 year ago
Remember Induction is more than just eating under a specific carb level. It is about eating the right basic foods to the stage for future losses. (Check out my Induction - not simply 20g or less video). The reason is obviously not everything on the ingredients label is on the acceptable foods list, and you are allowed only to eat foods from that list at least for the first 14 days. You can then progress to OWL and the rungs.
As for bars,.when have you heard me suggest them for Induction.
bowulf 1 year ago
Oops I accidentally deleted BigWhey's comment, here it was:
BigWhey:
"I don't guess I've ever heard you suggest the bars, however, atkins says they are ok for induction. Is this a case of Atkins just trying to make more money off a product?"
So he grudgingly accepted them in the diet, but stated you had to follow the rules of Induction. Remember also that Atkins Nutritional was not necessarily led by the diet center arm.
Atkins always enforced as much unprocessed foods as possible.
bowulf 1 year ago
Where is the chocolate? I didn't see you add it. Is it in the protein powder? Then, for some reason the video cut off after you say you recommend chunky pb. No finishing directions. Do you bake? Refrigerate? How many servings does this make?

My Dr. recommended low carb, not everyone's body digests food the same, I have an allergy to wheat, so I have no choice unless I want a to be sick on the "high" fiber diet recommended. Lets look at this, over the last 30 years, America has adopted a highly processed food diet and is now more obese than ever. If you took the time to look at a low carb diet you would see that it is a natural food diet, and that as you progress you add fruits and starches as you teach your body to use them wisely.
djksin 2 years ago
Absolutely right... I am not saying it should be mandatory for everyone, but the obsession over low fat or even low Calorie at the expense of real food or quality food. 100 Calorie Twinkies or cookie packs while both low fat and low Cal are not healthy options.
Low carb is a natural extension and personally is closer to how people used to eat before sugar was added to everything. People get to experience their food closer to how nature intended not how man made it.
Good luck!

Atkins/low carb diets are just gimmicks. An active lifestyle and organic foods is the fastest way to good health.
spiderpig85 2 years ago
Really a gimmick is creating a whole food category where none existed before with much less science backing it up than ketogenic and low carb diets have.
bowulf 2 years ago
I spent six years running a kilometer and a half every other day and eating according to the Food Pyramid. I reached my ideal weight but was sick and weak all the time, my joints ached, and I STILL had rolls of fat around my waist and neck; at some point my body had stopped dropping fat and began eliminating muscle tissue.
I dropped forty pounds in the first four months on Atkins, never went hungry, and I've never felt better. Food-reaction headaches? All gone!
NOW TELL ME IT'S A GIMMICK.

i have a small question
no offence at all but how did u get obeyse? i mean was it that u where eat fast food like 6x a day, or was it that u weren't exercising, or did u just grow up behing overweigh, when u where in high school where u overweigh? no offence at all just want to know
alkiller1992 2 years ago

OK , ill do another comment for this video... My mom has a degree in health education, which means she has taken moderate nutrition classes......she sais the atkins diet is unhealthy because it is unbalanced plain and simple.. I know you atkins guys must feel it.... depriving yourself of carbs and fruit sugars.. yikes.. i feel bad for u guys i really do......dosnt a diet where u loose so much weight seem a bit to good to be true.. hell why dont u just stop eating all together
partyongarth420 2 years ago
I am happy for your mom, but unfortunately that doesn't make her right. I'll trust the word of actual cardiologists, multiple university researchers, nutritionists, and heck even the ADA (Diabetic Association) and the Heart Association who are either advocating low carb for their patients or in the case of the heart association drastically reducing all sugar intake.
Don't feel bad for me -- I am the living the good life. I can eat wings, salad, and have plenty of energy for a run.
bowulf 2 years ago
Let's see a diet where I lose little and stay well near 400 pounds sounds better? What is unbalanced about it? Whose idea of balance is best? Why does balance require you to eat refined sugars and starches? Does everyone need a little candy bar, donut, french fry, white bread, pizza crust in their life?
If that is your idea of balance, I will take my balanced diet of meats, veggies, dairy, fruits, nuts, and seeds any day.
bowulf 2 years ago
guys just please be aware that starving yourselfs of carbs and fruit is going to be unhealthy in the long run.... dont lie to yourselfs..... if your craving an orange really bad its cause u need a fuckin orange.. best of luck
partyongarth420 2 years ago
Explain to me how carbs are necessary OR that Atkins diet eliminates either entirely.
Fact is most people don't crave an orange. They crave the sugar fix in the orange. Your body loves the easy fuel and rush of sugar just like a junkie loves his fix.
As for needing carbs for fuel, I have ran a marathon on 30 net carbs (4-5 cups of veggies) per day. The body runs just fine on fat for fuel source and has many thousands of year before King Corn and Wheat were developed in the 50s & 60s.
bowulf 2 years ago
you know i really try to restrain myself from responding to inconsiderate people like yourself but i must say that restricting carbs are good for certain people. i have never lost weight on low fat diets and such. i have lost about 30 pounds on this diet and have kept it off. i dont crave like i used too and I dont starve myself either. this channel is for low carber so if you dont agree with it go eat a bag of bread and enjoy what your body turns it into.

bowulf 2 years ago
your luck that this one was uploaded almost two years ago.because as we all know, splenda is not the best way to sweeten this bar.stevia powder or liquid stevia (choclate aviable) would be much much better and would turn this bar into a real healthy (depending if you´re the protein-type or not) product!
Nudelsalatbomber 2 years ago
Actually, I have tried Stevia in the past and Truvia now, and I haven't preferred it. The knock against Splenda has no weight in my book. Some people are more sensitive to it than others. For me at the quantities (or lack thereof) I consume, I am at no danger from the stuff.
Putting bitter tasting Stevia or erythitol-filled Truvia in the recipe just is not high on my list. I respect those that have issues with Splenda, eggs, peanuts, but I for one do not.
bowulf 2 years ago
bowulf, for what i know, the bitter aftertaste depends on the brand.i´ve seen other video´s here and did read about stevia few months ago and it did sound like, that stevia isn´t allways stevia.

chubbychaser2000 2 years ago
I eat about 80-100 grams of carbs at every meal and i'm 6'2'' 210 pounds of lean muscle. I agree that perhaps an overabundance of WHITE carbs in the American diet is a contributing factor to obesity, although there's nothing wrong with carbs as a whole. I limit my carbs to low GI carbs which i'm sure you're aware of. WW bread, pasta, rice, yams, most fruits, beans, etc. Slow release which prevents the insulin spike. As for high GI, I need them as well. As soon as i wake up and post workout.
thirtyaughsix 2 years ago
Working out on fat also improves my endurance - no bonk at mile 20.
bowulf 2 years ago
I'm far from afraid of fat lol.. i realize it's effects on test and energy.
thirtyaughsix 2 years ago
why are you scared of carbs?
thirtyaughsix 2 years ago
I am not scared of carbs. I just see the overabundance of them as one of reasons Americans have gotten more obese. I also appreciate NOT having to deal with blood glucose spikes and energy lulls any more.
bowulf 2 years ago
do some research and you´ll find out why the human body need a ton less of carbs than we are actually sucking in every day!
Nudelsalatbomber 2 years ago
Do some research and realize excess carbs are needed to get bigger, faster.
thirtyaughsix 2 years ago
I have gotten faster, worked out longer, and lifted more weight on less carbs. Excess carbs are just that excess. Train your body to use a more consistent fuel. I'll take the recommendation of Charles Poliquin, professional strength training coach and body building trainer, who promotes lower carb for athletes.
bowulf 2 years ago
Sorry, but low carb or extremely low fat diets are nothing but detrimental to your gains. I've tried both. Strength is always up when I have a solid amount of carbs and good fats. I wasn't saying that comment to you by the way, but it's allgood.
thirtyaughsix 2 years ago
I'll take the recommendation of a world famous strength training coach and authority in the field -- especially when my own anecdotal history confirms it.
bowulf 2 years ago
You do that. Listen to your body, and i'll listen to mine...
thirtyaughsix 2 years ago
well, are we talking about the same goal´s?guess not!but even if you want to get faster, you don´t really need to SUCK in carbs,if you just add 50-100gramms/day more, it will be enough.and again - we´re not all the same - some can oozz a bottle of cola and DON`T crash and other like me can right after the intake take a nap!

I know how you feel. I am able to run marathons (4 hours), lift weights, or simply fight fires (volunteer firefighter) for hours without tiring out, so the necessity of carbs for exercise is simply not there. Keep up the great work.
