  • I played this in 6th grade; thought it was pretty easy, but its different for everyone

  • @MusicianClaire13 ME TOO!! violin two<3 haha

  • Learning this :D Second Violin. It's amazing<3

  • This song is a joy to play. Loving my bass clarinet part.

  • that cymbal player at the ends sucks

  • this is my ballet song and Columbus Symphony is playing it

  • @clown103020 Which Columbus (what state)?

  • needs more cowbell

  • we played this in Youth Symphony a couple years ago and I loved it.

  • NOT ENOUGH HORN AT THE END

  • just did this on piccolo, ending runs are just the best feeling in the world.

  • Dat Tuba... Music to my ears

  • I first played this when I was 11, on Clarinet 1 and I about died. It was so fun to play though, and its still one of my favourite pieces, along with Albanian Dance and Perthshire Majesty :) This is a great playing of it. I Love it :)

  • I'm doing this in my orchestra at school, and it's so hard, but I love it! Well done to this groups, it was awesome!

  • Dude I LOVE the oboe solo in the beginning. So mysterious sounding...

  • The first trombone part is amazing. We have a little solo/melody part in it.. I'm playing it with my youth symphony now.

  • I played this song in symphonic band Once in 8th grade and it was sooooooo hard omg >_< we didnt have anything in that band it was like 75 people all together. We lacked key people so the euphoniums(my section) played about 50% of all the other parts.

  • we played this for junior all-state orchestra it was favorite of the four we played

  • doing this song for wind ensemble... fuckin hard!

  • well.... the orchestra that i am in is now playing this song... the violin part is easy to me though...

  • In the orchestra that I'm in we get to play this song. the part that I play is really hard.

  • The Oboe Players cadenza in the beginning was fabulous.

  • @countryguy93 Thanks!

  • we did this piece for region band, I love it

  • Right now in my high school symphony orchestra we are playing this. it's a lot of fun to play. i need more practice though lol

  • @KevinAZheng same here

  • @stevenj124 RIGHT ON! but now that i've been practicing, i'm worried about my arm is gunna give out on me in the middle and it will be an epic fail. lol.

  • Oh gosh... We're playing this for seating auditions for SCSBOA... Do you know what metronome setting this would be for quarter notes?

  • @roaringkitties , id probably say about 110-120, but the tempo tends to fluctuate. we played this my sophomore year, i played bass trombone (btw, our band marched in scsboa, they can go to hell, but that's just my opinion)

  • @vredesbyrd93 LOL! Thank you! :) Hahah nice! Trombones are awesome :D Hahah! I heard they're pretty harsh o.o

  • @CAL932

    @galekitty

yeah... i know what you mean... except for i just realized the cello part (i play the cello) is majorly easy so i won't fail too bad if i practice the easy parts!!! :D

  • @electricpuddingcup Ya thats so true I played this on the cello too ;)

  • yeah... i know what you mean... except for i just realized the cello part (i play the cello) is majorly easy so i won't fail too bad if i practice the easy parts!!! :D

  • we're doing this for chair auditions in youth symphony... i'm going to fail.

  • @electricpuddingcup ...Just put in the practice and believe in yourself!

  • @electricpuddingcup

I feel your pain... sorta. We have to do this for tryouts for symphony orchestra at our high school and I don't care how much I practice I'm going to go to the tryouts, mess up majorly, turn beet red out of embarrassment and then fail.

  • from 37 (i think) to 107 reminds me of pirates of the carribean. this has been a fun song to play in wind ensomble, too bad that orchestra stole it from us last year so we're playing it this year for real.

  • I have ten days to learn this! AHH! Haha, amazing performance!

  • We played this in our marching band(well parts of it anyway). It sounds so cool.

  • but hey....this is a highschool group playing a professional piece of music. cut some slack

  • GOD THE LAST 4 MEASURES FOR BASS FML

  • Amazing composition by Saint Saëns. I do look forward to performing it with my highschool orchestra rather shortly.

  • this is the hardest peice i have ever played and i love it! my highschool orch. class is playing!!

  • I'm having to play this as a freshman in high school.

Got a 90 on a playing test of it. c:

  • The brass seems loud...

  • would have liked to hear more decrescendo at 5:02...otherwise nice job

  • can't hear the triangle!!! D:

  • Our marching band is totally rocking this as our closer this year =]

  • my new england conservatory orchestra just played this:

it is sooo fun to play

and this group did a great job

  • @kikipielover101 ...Thanks. :)

  • i have to learn this on upright bass over the summer to play in my 10th grade school spring show. its simple till bar 55...

  • to slow

  • My high school concert orchestra (that I'm in) will be playing this next year and I'm soooo excited!

  • @mydadisgamesmaster Me too makayla! :) Especially the end!

  • @laddy1234on omg how do you know me? We must be in orchestra together! Who is this?

  • I just played this with the SRSYO, difficult but fun!

  • My high school did this song only a few violins could actually play it :/ i was one of them and about 5 others band was woodwinds and brass sounded ok to good with it

  • its all too choppy, and well meshed, its supposed to flow more and be very chaotic

  • My orchestra is learning this peice for competition with our band. we're starting now and the competition is in june so i hope we sound really well. Its very exciting =)

  • i loved this song..Memphis allwest senior orchestra played it and it was my 1st time making it..and it sounded exactly like this.sooo cool..but it got cancelled..

  • fairly good performance...technically it was good, but a bacchanale was a crazy drunk roman orgy party. I personally think that this piece should be played a little faster and with a lot more liveliness. Great conductor and great players, but they need to loosen up a little do really do this piece justice

  • the timpani is off tune

  • My the ensemble i'm in is playing this with mallet instruments. It's pretty sweet.

  • I love this song... I'm learning it now... it gets difficult though :(

  • @jhorst24 should have taken cello then...that part is extremely easy

  • @jhorst24 Im also learning it. Im the guest oboeist!!!

  • this is way too slow, it's life half time

  • *like

  • It's a little slow, but it's nowhere near half time.

  • @devontheincredible dude... you'd be playing this song in 3 minutes if you went twice as fast

  • We played this 3 weeks ago at the concert in our local church

  • try playing this in marching band :P

  • we are playing this for one of our show pieces next year but we're starting it now. its really cool but there are too many (not trills, but same notes up and down) and its really hard

  • Comment removed

  • Our percussion ensemble is playing this. It's so cool, like, to see what instruments are actually playing, instead of the arrangement we have. For us, it's the bells instead of the oboe playing, and it's just, it's really cool. :]

  • OMG! we're playing this at our school right now! our teacher brought in a copy of it today...and i think this is the exact one we heard!

  • wat orchestra is GTSO?

  • what orchestra is GTSO?

  • I play the flute in this song. We don't have an orchestra at my school, so it's all wind instruments. It sounds cooler the way it was intended to be played.

  • Really? I'm a flutiee too , but this song is too hard for me to play. it's too fast :D i need more exercises :D

  • Im a freshman in high school, and we are playing this song. I love it! It;s amazing [: It's always stuck in my head :/

  • Comment removed

  • This song was my first movement of my marching show :D

  • At 6:43, our percussion ensemble plays it about 30 BPM faster. Faster more a few measures later. Our timpani player doesn't seem to care.

  • The pecussion ensemble that I'm in is playing it too but I have to memorize it within a week, and I have no clue where to start.

  • Same here, are you in WYSO?

  • yes

  • Well this is stupid =_=, String Instruments should always have the bigger part, they were the ancestors of almost all music.

  • ummm no technically it was the flute or drums. and no strings should not always have bigger parts. ever heard the opening of mahler 5 or the ending of mahler 1? maybe the great gate of kiev from pictures at an exibition? brass beasts get over it, this is an amazing piece even if the performance wasn't that amazing

  • actually I'm pretty sure that woodwinds and percussion were.

  • I'm playing this song with my Youth Symphony this season. Fantastic piece! Very cool bass part.

  • I love this song.

    *hums along*

  • the tempo could be picked up just a bit...

  • my symphonic band is going to play this for the fall concert!! i'm so exited, it such a great song!!

  • my band is playing this too, but our version is a heck of a lot shorter. of course, we lack a string section and we're pretty small (considering we're a college band) so that might by why

  • i played this song in my 7th grade orchestra Bradley Middle school in San antonio Texas

  • i have doubts about that =/

  • No its true. The neisd has a thing called evening with strings all of the schools play(5-12). The middle and elementary schools each plqy a song that goes with the theme, then at the end all schools play a song together. The high schools play the main bulk of the piece, while the middle plays the ending w/ high school.

  • This is so cool!

    It sounds so arabian!

    AWSOME!

  • Being an oboe player myself, I absolutely must commend the oboist for a beautiful performance. This is so much fun to listen to. =D

  • Be a lot better if we couldn't hear those pads stickin'...HAHA! I love it! Ive been tryin' to find a great recording of a wind ensemble playing it, but it's hard

  • Thanks! I played on a school-borrowed instrument, so thus the sticky pads. I have a Royal now kicks major butt.

  • We played this at All-State this year. Unfortunately, our horns could NOT play during all our rehearsals in that two measures of horn right after the oboe cadenza in the beginning. They pretty much pulled it out of their ass for the final performance, but whatever - it worked haha

  • This is my favorite song we have EVER played in band. Ever. I love this song, and I want to dance everytime I hear it....

  • E

    A

  • oh jesus,

i play this for my Sr.Band.

    I'm a clarinet player,

    and it's impossible.

any advice for practicing would be a lifesaver.

    :]

  • it might be hard but its an amazing piece

  • all i can say is practice. my band is doing this piece, and unfortunately none of the clarinet players practice, so it sounds terrible.

  • @kassiexcontagious ...Hope it went well!

  • @kassiexcontagious I also played this as a clarinet player. It was really hard but it sure was fun to play!!! :)

  • @kassiexcontagious repetition repetition repetition

  • My chamber orchestra is playing a very accurate arrangement of this and it sounds amazing. Im excited to play it for our spring concert. The bass plays a strangely exciting part in the song.

  • At 1:00 is my favorite part! It's my favorite part of any music I've ever heard.

    That's just my opinion...

  • I've got to commend the Oboe player. In the beginning he/she recognized they were a tad sharp and IMMEDIATELY corrected themself. Kudos to you Oboe player!

  • Ha -- thanks! I'm always sharp, but my new teacher has got me back down to pitch pretty consistently now.

  • My highschool band almost played this, but decided against it. Sometimes we go back and play it, though. I find that this rendition lacks enough drums. I prefer it with those big bass drums- it adds the big punch to the beat. Great job though- I saw you in that early shot. :D

  • our high school steel drums played this song, and our marching band also played bits and pieces of this song during marching season. We also played nessum dorma and I don't know the other movement we played.

  • i play Viola in a high school orchestra and we had to play the actual thing....it was fun...

  • we play it so much faster though

  • I play the trumpet in a pro orchestra, I cant say how much I love this song. The siren part at 1:45 is so fun!

  • I'm playing this in sr. band at school - i play tenor sax but somehow I ended up with baritone music, and those sixteenth notes are really effing hard,

  • wonderful song! I play it with the school-orchester. It's nice to play this song.

  • 6:46

When the timpani bangs and all the winds play that melody. I can't explain it, but it gives me something better than shivers.

  • I know what you mean, this song gets me too!

  • my high school is playing this song its amazing...but im 2nd chair clarinet., this is hard! least i dont have the solo haha

    its amazing!

  • My favorite part is at 6:11, for one second. When you hear oboe/woodwind arpeggios as the sections transition. Anyone know what I mean?

  • castanets ftw!!

  • whoa, coolness, do i see some coolness? i think so!!!

  • Not a bad orchestra, but the conducting seems a bit lackadaisal.

Why is it, I wonder, that the only recordings I can find of this piece on youtube are by student orchestras?

  • the conducting is lacking? I've seen a conducting that would literally bounce around and "dance" to conduct, but never left the podium. Man the guy had some energy, but still it was a great performance though.

  • This has to be one of my all time favorite songs. I remember playing this in all-state in '05. Great Song!

  • i love how this song sounds!it sounds so cool:)

wind ensemble is gonna play this nxt semester so i cant wait!

  • we're going to this in my high school wind ensemble class next semester... this sounds great. thank you for posting it so i can get used to it haha

  • I just played this at my all county orchestra, we had to play it twice the audience clapped so long. I didnt know that GA tech had an orchestra. I want to major in music but I dont know where to begin looking do you know where I can find info?

  • The last i checked, GT didn't have a music major, just a music minor. If you're in Georgia, i believe UGA has a music major and a good program.

  • Um if he's close to GT why not go to GSU? Their music program is decent, also rising in general size is KSU. If you're in atlanta try out for one of the 5-6 ensembles in the area, this is on the light side of what you may play.

Though, I'm not so sure you'd be near Atlanta... we tend to call the "county" level, Honor Orchestra where here, but i remember it being "All County" back in Florida... anyways the ensembles are normally in schools of music, or in a symphony. They can help you out with

  • Picking a school, my experience in a youth orchestra lead me to choose to auditioning for FSU as well.

  • @peppermintlattee Kennesaw State has a really great music program. I'm going to Georgia State to major in music composition and minor in violin performance this fall.

  • Whoa -- it's me oboing for the world to hear!!

  • Our High School did a wind ensemble version of this piece. Loved it! Great job by the way. What does the GT in GTSO stand for?

  • Georgia Tech.

  • Very cool! Im in the Mississippi State Symphonic Band

  • OMG i love this piece! the horn solo is amazing! i wanna learn 2 play this song!

  • I love the piece too.
