  • i was at this event!!! still get goose-bumps!! Praise God!!

  • AMEN !!!! that's so true... in Christ, black and white together, we can do great thing for God...

  • I remember those days.

  • I do miss promise keepers as well, I wish I could find all their songs. It's simply amazing.

  • I always thought that if there is a God,then He is unjust.

  • @Gallas2000 I enter that God is only unjust or unfair to himself: He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Romans 4:25

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 1 Corinthians 15:3. Our sin is against him in the first place yet he died in our place. Thus injustice is man's doing...

  • I was there at RFK stadium that day. 50840 men all praising God in unison. Wintley Phipps time on stage was some of the most powerful and annointed words I've heard spoken ever!! I thank God for the work Promise Keepers has done in the past to bring men closer to God and their families. Anyone that would put them (PK) down is ignorant of the intent and the message they were delivering.

  • I thank God, 1st as an African descent to know he took a man once apart of the slave trade and once God rescued him from the enslavenment of satan and sin and transformed his soul. John Newton wrote Amazing Grace because it was nothing but God's amazing sovereign grace that can cause a person to admit and turn from their sin against God and humanity. John 3:16-18, Acts 4:12, Philippians 2:5-11

  • Anyone today who considers American society disinterestedly is struck by the impression of a society gone mad, in which the germs of disintegration which have multiplied and the disease has broken out visibly, defacing a social fabric which was already deteriorating. religious sects proliferate, dragging their disciples into a psychological slum world. These phenomena are only the most obviously disquieting symptoms of an accelerating decline towards the total disintegration of human personality

  • Thats a lot of big words for a little guy.You write this all by yoursrlf ? Your third grade teacher would be proud I'm sure. GOOD JOB...

  • Oh so not only are you a religious dervish- as a bonus you're also anti-intellectual and against using "fancy talk"! You must be a hoot to talk with! Would you prefer I use T-shirts with simpler writing on them or maybe if I break down sentences in a maximum of 4 or 5 "easy" words? Perhaps I could communicate in ebonics? or other Americanized farragos and truculence to be understood?

  • I have found in my dealings with many kinds of people in life... That the ones that have much to say, say nothing in doing it.Also they that use big words are trying to impress those around them because the truth about them is, There is nothing that is impressing.

  • i don't know about you, but I use words as a means of communication.... I utilize words in a way that will convey my meaning in a concise and accurate manner. Your equation of using "big words" as trying to "say something about yourself" says PLENTY about you... Nothing "impressing"... what a failure you must be to feel resentment towards me for using words (which you deem "big"), and how dare you ask me to dumb down what I say because YOU DECIDED it wasn't the right way to say it! the gall !

  • Friend your making it where there will be just a few that will be able to uderstand what you are talking about. Useing smaller words does not mean that you are dumbing down.your opening it up to talk to more people. You'll find in doing so,that there are a lot of interesting people that are very wise without big words. Trying to help you to be able to meet them. People don't want to talk to someone that talks over their heads but to them. Think about it my friend.Use them, but not always. Peace..

  • the ones who's education is so defective as to be incapable of understanding what I say, when I am merely using the basics of the English language- and are too indolent and shiftless to remedy the obvious inadequacies of their education- are people who I think are better off simply not responding. Especially if these people are threatened and feel angered (as if I was talking "OVER their heads" as you say) when i'm simply trying to write coherently.

  • actually, I think the opposite is true, talking DOWN to someone and using a silly and debased form of english, an infantile and dilapidated approach to communication, is MUCH more condescending and frustrating. It not only makes communication "suspect" and like using verbal trickery, but it also makes communication less effective. I have more esteem for people.. .

  • ...You missed it the whole point...lictor313

  • which is... ?

  • The Holy Trinity is a hard concept for us to understand. How can one God be Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? They are all the same 3-in-1. For example, think of water. At an icy lake, you have liquid, solid, and also vapor (condensation). Its 3-in-1, but they have different forms.

  • This is one possible version of the story. Howbeit, the common tune used for Amazing Grace wasn't written when Newton penned the song. We have to be carefull to distinguish between what is TRUTH and what we THINK is truth. Particularly if we're going to present it as a God thing.

  • People, you have to wake up from this false doctrine. Read Matthew 24. Jesus does not dwell among you any longer, as he is physically in heaven. The one who is with the true believer is the Holy Spirit. He that hath an ear let him hear. Read also Revelation 2. God will judge those who embrace false doctrine.

  • What then are we to of Jesus final words in Matthew 28:20 "...I will be with you always, even to the end of the age"?

  • Indeed the Bible talks about the SPIRIT of Christ who dwells within you. We continually refer to Jesus as the PHYSICAL aspect of God. How cana physical being dwell within a physical being? If Jesus and the Father are one, would not The Spirit also be one with them?

Let's not throw accusations around though, maybe we should just say "Actually, I don't know that answer to that... but praise God, one day I will."

  • Having this form of doctrine is like playing fire, but according to the Bible, this great falling away by false heretic doctrine has to happen first, leading to the lost of souls! before the coming of the Lord Jesus can take place.

  • I miss promise keepers and wish it was here for my boys today. I gave my heart to God in Seattle 95 in the old king dome.

  • that's grace!i crying to see the worship!thanks to GOD!

  • In the late 90's I attended some of these events(including the granddaddy of them all,Stand In The Gap). They were moving, educational, inspiring and best of all, non-political.

  • I pray that God will open your eyes to see the hidden things that only the spirit can see. football macthes spectators can be more than double this crowd and you'll find no fault with it. do not criticise till you gain understanding. God bless you.

  • Looks like we got ourselves a nut here folks....oy....please ole hippy..go live in any islamic paradise and then get back to us as you leech off the back of our Free Western Countries!!

Get rid of the bong and grow up!!

  • Your signin name says alot about you. Lets pray for this angry soul.

  • Pity you won't listen to the music and the words that precede them. I feel sorry for you to have so much hate. Let it go, please.

  • Yeah...notice all those planes we are throwing into building..oh yeah..remember those christians that are getting on buses blowing up innocent jewish civilians...

Yep..your a hippy all right..same low intellect of your average hippy...Please..I can't wait for your moral equivelance!!

  • "remember those christians that are getting on buses blowing up innocent jewish civilians"

Did you notice that Christian terrorists invaded an innocenty country? Raped, tortured, and murdered half a million innocent people, half of those children under the age of 18?

Right. Christianity is far worse than Islamic or Israli terrorism.

  • Thanks for walking right into it....folks...moral equivelance at its worse!!

    Ha ha ha ...

  • i agree with this man

he speaks the God honest truth

i just wish there were more people like him

i do love this song but i love my God more

  • Just what exactly does "moral equivelance"(SIC) mean to you? Does that mean that there is more than one race, or that there is only one race - the human race.

  • Uh..if I have to explain it to you....it might not be worth my time...lol....

  • Ok. I just wandered what it means to you in regards to this video and in regards to this song. Grace and Peace to you.

  • Was it Christians that Christ wants them to be? Or Christians "man" wants them to be? Know the difference.

  • Wow!

  • AWESOME INFO!

  • Inspirational, what others think about the origin of this song is beside the point.

  • listen men, this song is not what it is taught. again a slight of a story, not on a slave ship and never known to be written on a slave ship and why do do the why do the promise keepers keep saying this is beyond me.

  • You are beside the point. Listen to the whole tape and catch the context. The message is reveting and powerful

  • love it omfg this song rocks it alawys makes me cry so hard

  • I learn something new. Thats amazing.

  • How Sweat The Sound...

  • i ws blessed-

  • The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them.

Turn from your sinful, rebellious ways & embrace the salvation of God by faith in the death of God's glorious Son, Jesus, who gave His life as an offering for sin. We are all undeserving of such an amazing gift of God's grace.

  • this is so touching

  • such feelings!

  • ive never cried so much in my life

  • In this day and age of random shootings, VTech, name a drive by, etc..., focus on the message, "In Gods eyes, we all are connected. With Grace we will survive." The cool thing about history is, only those that either created it or witnessed it only know what happened. If you ask them both to describe it, it will be different. So I take delight in the philosophical discussions that at the end of the day, we will never really know the answer to.

  • I love the song, it is beautiful. However, the truth is clearly recoreded in history books that while Newton wrote the lyrics, the tune was taken from a saloon tune played in Scottland on bagpipes. Why do we feel the need to continue to re-write history? Slavery was wrong, God forgives, His grace is amazing-ENOUGH!

  • That was beautiful.

  • The most awesome, informative, and moving spiritual presentation I have seen in a long time. It reminds me of some of the closing night performances of some of our Black Baptist conventions of the past.

  • I would like to say that this song is to much melancholic and sad, It goes to the bottom of a heart and to much pain reflects out of it... Rev. tosh Mulenga

  • You need prayer! You might want to get some Jesus in your life so that you can live life without the absence of cynicism. It is the intelligent that believe and the fool that refuses to believe or even understand. Yes, darling, you need prayer. I will pray for you. God bless you!

  • Who are you talking to ?

Sounds like YOU need prayer...and some education.

    George

  • Just asked you a question - As a minister, I am educated by Jesus Christ. And I get prayer all the time and I pray all the time. I will certainly include you. God Bless You.

  • There is a saying that is absolutely neccessary here, "God helps those who helps themselves." You say you are educated by Jesus, Jesus never told you that 2 + 2 = 4. You need real world education along with what the Bible teaches including how to articulate your thoughts. You are still an Idiot.

    George

  • Bless God for His Amazing Grace. Bless God for His everlasting mercies towards the children of men. Bless God for the power and authority of His Word. Bless Whitley for sharing... We may believe what we want about the history of this song. But we must decide sooner rather than later what we will believe about the Lord God and His only begotten son Jesus Christ.

  • The message is in the music. God's Amazing Grace. If you miss His grace, then you've missed the message. God allows us to sing praise to Him as adoration of His majesty and love. History is "His-Story" left for mankind to light the path to His throne and salvation. If you have not experienced His amazing Grace, then listen to the song again and embrace the message of his love for YOU through His Son Jesus Chrsit. Now, that's truly AMAZING grace!!

  • You're an IDIOT !

    George

  • Who put you up to this...you blabbering idiot.

    G.B.

  • God did. I'm a minister and God bless you!

  • The only right being a Minister gives you is your opinion...the same rights I have and in my opinion, you're still a blabbering illiterate IDIOT.

    George

  • No. John Newton didn't write the melody. And he didn't hear it in a ship. He wrote the lyrics for the song years after the slave experience back in England. Then much later on, during the latter part of the 19th century Scots-Irish people emigrated from northern Ireland and Scotland and put the lyrics of the song to a melody which was typical of the folk of Scotland and Ireland. Slaves did not invent this melody.

  • Scots-Irish people eimigrated from the Slavery under which they lived and sought to leave....and of course you know that the Bible says there is nothing new under the sun, so the Scots-Irish most likely were not the first to hear the melody either....the point here is to see just how much alike we are as human beings, God loves you and so do I....we are all connected remember that what you do effects not only you...effects us all. BE NICE, he did say Probably!

  • So if you say John Newton didn't write the melody and slaves didn't invent the melody? You say the Scots-Irish put the lyrics to the song but you never say who exactly wrote the melody. If you are going to educate us, the do a complete job - not a partial job.

  • You sound like a person with little or no cognizant understanding of what Wintley said...no one heard what you heard...FOOL !

    George

  • I was responding to your remark about the origin of the song and the melody. Unlike you, I can have a conversation without being ugly and calling names.

  • Like I said earlier, "who are you talking to ?"

I never mentioned the origin of the song or anything else for that matter. Wintley gave a narrative as he tried to inspire people to believe in GOD and brotherly love...you still need prayer and some education.

    George

  • Sorry George, someone had said that the origins of the song and the melody, etc. Perhaps I posted my comment to you in error when I intended to repond to the other person. If that is the case - then pardon me.

  • Apology accepted...and I promise to tone my indignation in the future.

    George

  • i know we all get very serious about our beliefs and our opinions and I realize your indignation was because of the mix-up of who wrote what. Glad we got it straightened out. I was not trying to cause a problem, just wanted to get more info. Have a blessed week.

  • I just posted an apology to you in the funboy15 posting because I saw (after reading all the postings) where your response was directed to. Again, I absolutely apologize and beg your forgiveness.

    George

  • No problem. Mistakes are maken. I made one too. Apology accepted George and God bless you!

  • I must apologize to Simoneiada because when I read his comments on your (FunBoy15) posting, I had not read all of the postings...I just finished reading them all and I'm with Simon, "if you're going to educate us", don't do a partial job. I heard Wintley say he researched his narrative in the Library Of Congress...Where do you get your Information ?

    George

  • That was the person I thought I was commenting to - and like I said, I guess I hit your name in error and that caused all the confusion. Oh well - it is over and I'm glad. I have no hard feelings and hope you dong either. God bless you.

  • A classic moment! The story of slaver John Newton's conversion to Christ makes every singer a believer. Thanks Wintley! and thanks Promise Keepers for keeping the flame burning in men's hearts. Onward!

  • What a great flashback! Thanks for the post. Men - if you've never been to a Promise Keepers conference...go! It will change your life.
