To all you wowsers out there, if all you have to do is to knock the likes of Paul Potts and Natasha Marsh then all I can say is turn your TV or computer off and go play with your teddy bears. Vendimi mentioned Martinucci,Aragall,Bergonzi among other greats but is spammed for saying so.I would add Goerne,Florez,Heppner,Jm Ainsley in my videos as other examples of singers that Paul is musically or technically nowhere near. Repertoire of course is a MAJOR factor!! and Paul does not do Schubert lieder,Richard Strauss,Mozart opera anyway so you would have to hear other singers to hear that music.

I have heard most of the PROFESSIONAL tenors you mentioned, heard most, and I can add a few more names to your encyclopedia. I am a Paul Potts fan after seeing him in a concert, and I thought his voice so beautiful. The 1st audition showed the potential, but on the live stage, Simons quote was perfect.

@monsoonseasonaugust Paul Potts is infectious. The more you get the more you want. Like a good wine, he'll get better with age if that's possible. The clip with Nqatasha Marsh is fantastic, they go well together.

Go to EACH conservatorio listening to the first year students and you will find better voices than this. WAY better: it's easy to find out. Potts sings out of tune(can you not hear that?) and his technique eg phrasing,breath control is way below a regular opera singer in world opera houses. I am honestly not being bitchy-it is just fact. He does well for teaching himself, even Pavarotti was impressed with him, he did sing for him and Pavarotti gave him some advice. Opera is not easy at all, I sang it in HIgh School for competition and in the Toledo Opera after I was out of School
Pavarotti was also a career singer who has been singing for nearly half a decade and was trained in music, starting his career in his late 20's in 1961. Potts was a cell phone salesman. One can only imagine what Potts could be had he chosen to follow his dream.

I am genuinely baffled why people want to listen to Potts when ANY regular tenor at Royal Opera or ENO is better? His pronounciation is awful. He frankly sounds amateur and it 's NOT a pleasant sound-maybe thats what appeals to people but not me. Listen to Florez do Donna and u will hear million per cent difference.
Because he's not a professional in the same way they are. Up until three years ago, he worked in a mobile phone warehouse. He's just a regular guy who hit it big and most people, myself included, admire him for that.
And, as for his singing ability and pronunciation, the proof is in the pudding. When he sings, he take the breath away of Amanda Holden, and for that alone, I am a fan of his. Juz sayin

Paul's demeanor and the whole toasting thing looked a bit awkward, but I'm sure he'll age like a fine wine. Paul will surely be great as he continues his career.

Vendimi mentioned Martinucci,Aragall,Bergonzi among other greats but is spammed for saying so.I would add Goerne,Florez,Heppner,Jm Ainsley in my videos as other examples of singers that Paul is musically or technically nowhere near. Repertoire of course is a MAJOR factor!! and Paul does not do Schubert lieder,Richard Strauss,Mozart opera anyway so you would have to hear other singers to hear that music.

God, listen to these, and come again to say that Paul Potts is a tenor.

I have heard most of the PROFESSIONAL tenors you mentioned, heard most, and I can add a few more names to your encyclopedia. I am a Paul Potts fan after seeing him in a concert, and I thought his voice so beautiful. The 1st audition showed the potential, but on the live stage, Simons quote was perfect.
natureprovides said of Pauls voice, there is a frequency there that conncets, that lacks it many other voices, and of course he is a tenor.

@monsoonseasonaugust Paul Potts is infectious. The more you get the more you want. Like a good wine, he'll get better with age if that's possible. The clip with Nqatasha Marsh is fantastic, they go well together.

IWell moonsoon, I didn't mean to be snob or either to tell you what to think. I just tried to make present that opera is something different than this, luckily. Go to EACH conservatorio listening to the first year students and you will find better voices than this. WAY better: it's easy to find out. Paul Potts wouldn't probably pass a test to be admitted in a conservatorio. That's the ugly (ugly?) truth.

wickedchips-How does lots of fans=quality singing!! Spice Girls had tons of fans too.Why does everyone ignore what trained musicians say? Why do I get spammed for FACTS like he is out of tune,the diction is wrong,+phrasing is clipped? Go ask a singing teacher.

@mollymitch1 No I am not. I am a trained musician who often accompanies singers professionally. Potts sings out of tune(can you not hear that?) and his technique eg phrasing,breath control is way below a regular opera singer in world opera houses. I am honestly not being bitchy-it is just fact. Good luck to the man but I am only saying what any music college tutor would say-go ask one.Go compare him to Juan Florez.

Im not an expert in opera but Paul Potts sings good not the best though I can tell Luciano Pavarotti has a more natural stronger voice. (RIP).
In any case Paul is doing well.

He does well for teaching himself, even Pavarotti was impressed with him, he did sing for him and Pavarotti gave him some advice. Opera is not easy at all, I sang it in HIgh School for competition and in the Toledo Opera after I was out of School

Pavarotti was also a career singer who has been singing for nearly half a decade and was trained in music, starting his career in his late 20's in 1961. Potts was a cell phone salesman. One can only imagine what Potts could be had he chosen to follow his dream.
One can imagine what we all could be, had we chosen to follow our dreams.

I have NO malice towards Paul and always been respectful.BUT-it does annoy me that someone who is not that good gets this MASS HYSTERIA just because he was a salesman + on BGT, when UK opera singers(who arent so known as they were'nt on BGT) don't get ANY UK airplay and get more attention in Japan! Is that fair? Same as Boyle- her fans think shes new Streisand! So Paul according to u 'will surpass' the worlds top singers soon.This is madness.Nessun bloody Dorma is a tiny bit of 1 opera.

I am genuinely baffled why people want to listen to Potts when ANY regular tenor at Royal Opera or ENO is better? His pronounciation is awful. He frankly sounds amateur and it 's NOT a pleasant sound-maybe thats what appeals to people but not me. Listen to Florez do Donna and u will hear million per cent difference.

Because he's not a professional in the same way they are. Up until three years ago, he worked in a mobile phone warehouse. He's just a regular guy who hit it big and most people, myself included, admire him for that.
And, as for his singing ability and pronunciation, the proof is in the pudding. When he sings, he take the breath away of Amanda Holden, and for that alone, I am a fan of his. Juz sayin

The beautiful Natasha Marsh is from Royal Opera House.
I saw them both sing this live and Paul the amatuer singer just as good, and even then his voice sounded better.
Paul now so improved in 2 yrs, I don't think Paul need to work out at all.
