@mcjacobs2488 Same here. And IMHO, there's absolutely nothing wrong with us. Because Galactica is just THAT good. To me, it is also the only peace of television ever that has actually made me cry. Long live BSG.
It's amazing that I heard this song earlier tonight in a documentary on the bbc with some other bsg music. I never knew it had that much of an effect.
Haha love it great scene when Bill and Lee are sitting talking in the hanger deck on Galactica and he gives his son his father's (Joseph Adama's) lighter "He always took it with him when he went in to court and always won" "Dad I'll bring it back." "You better or I'll kick your ass! It's a good lighter." Ity's like the passing of the tourch from one generation to the next love it.
I happened to love the New Caprica arc. I thought it was excellent. There was a belief that somehow the Colonials were playing the role of the Iraqi insurgency and the Cylons were playing the role of the US. However, given the highly Westernized society the Colonials come from and the intent of their insurgency(that of liberation, democracy, freedom, etc.),they were more along the lines of the French Resistance in WW2 than they were the Terrorist scum in Iraq.
No problem. A lot of people thought that the writers were trying to say that the Colonials were allegorical to the Iraqi insurgency. There were certainly attempts to make New Caprica a parallel to Iraq, however, given what the Colonials were fighting for and what the Iraqi Insurgency was fighting for their only similarity was that they wanted the foreign force gone. Other than that, their goals and intentions differed greatly.
The irony being that many insurgents in Iraq are foreign themselves. There's also the fact that the Colonials were truly faced with death during the occupation, and that New Caprica was basically a concentration camp by the start of season 3.
I love the republic, but Cicero's declaration is a necessary truism. Indeed, America's own history is replete with examples of Cicero being proven true. Whether it be John Adams' passing the Alien & Sedition Acts during the Quasi-War, Lincoln invoking the War Powers Act, declaring Martial Law, & suspending Habeas Corpus, Wilson w/ his Espionage Acts, FDR w/ internment of Japanese, creation of Census Bureau, et al. Yet, every time the rights the gov took away to survive the crisis were given back
You make a good point yet I can't help feeling that Iraq's militants see little difference between themselves and the French Resistance. That's one clear lesson that New Caprica teaches us - everything is a matter of perspective.
Strange and inappropriate allusion there... but this should fix your thumbs down. You may spam yourself or remove the comment. Whichever you deem necessary.
I simply figured the allusion you made, (the reference to Shakespeare) was thought of as inappropriate, but seeing your thumbs down, decided it was probably not your intent to state the arbitrary. So I raised your thumb score, so to speak.
In other words, it's not really important, but this video and song are indeed good.
Greatest show of all time. It did for television what Star Wars did for film. Bear McCreary did for the television score what John Williams did for the Film Score. I will truly miss this show - particularly the battles. However, that being said, Caprica was frakking awesome & was just as compelling and complex as BSG. The only difference is they come from a Civvie side of things & focus more on scientific/business issues & less on military/political ones. Although they are still present.
Am I alone? Does anyone else think this sounds like it could be a bridal procession?
