People, the Catholic Church at the Council of Jerusalem in 49 A.D. ruled that the Church does not need to follow the Law of Moses and the law of circumcision, but we are ruled in the New Testament by the law of grace. Jesus and the Apostles believed in Sacred Tradition! There are several points in the New Testament that were not written in the Old Testament, but are found in the Mishnah. What was oral tradition, the Lord and his Apostles placed to the level of scripture! Also St. Paul enstructs us to hold fast to the TRADITIONS that we recieved from them either by oral statments or the written word. He does not even give priority here but counts them together. We are to follow their example.

Tradition claims that Ignatius was a Disciple of St. John. Still, St. Peter and Paul seem to present him as a bishop. "At Laodicea, on the River Lycus, where a choice of routes presented itself, his guards selected the more northerly, which brought the prospective martyr through Philadelphia and Sardis, and finally to Smyrna, where Polycarp, his fellow-disciple in the school of St. John, was bishop." This is from the Catholic Encyclopedia, seems fairly historical in it's application.

The Church was persecuted thus we rely on tradition.

We live in something called the "New Testament", a new Covenant! Jeremiah once prophesied that God would establish such a Covenant and Jesus initiated it. Through this Covenant, Sunday became the day of the Lord. Sorry that you have been left behind with a group founded in 1863.
Sounds like some SDA members have been decieved again? To properly understand the Catholic Faith, you need an understanding of the Old Testament particularly the Covenants. The Catholic Faith did change the Sabbath day, but in Apostolic times. Not later as some seem to think. St. Ignatius of Antioch who was a follower of St. John refered to Sunday as "The Lord's Day". St. Justin Martyr speaks of this about 145 A.D.

The Church teaches that the Crucifixion was most likley on a Wednesday due to the Essene calendar that had been used. We can see this if we look at Scripture where the Gospels tell us that they were bringing out the sheep for the slaughter about the same time as the Beginning was commencing and before It Finished. Although Good Friday is celebrated perhaps inaccurately in technicality, the observance opens up aspect of the mystery.

People, the Catholic Church at the Council of Jerusalem in 49 A.D. ruled that the Church does not need to follow the Law of Moses and the law of circumcision, but we are ruled in the New Testament by the law of grace. A new Covenant centered on the Mass. When you recieve the Eucharist, you renew the Covenant that the Lord initiates Matthew 26:28. The Apostles consecrated men to succeed them as we are a 2,000 year continuation. Timothy and Titus are just two of them.

I agree with you on Marcion as a heretic, but not Ignatius, Polycarp, or even Constantine. Your false beliefs were not present for another 1800 plus years. The Catholic Faith is the faith of the Apostles, the "pillar and foundation of truth". It is a visible body, not an invisible one. Not at all, the Catholic Faith has safeguarded the "Deposit of Faith" from the apostolic age. It was built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, it has Apostolic Succession which is the only historical tie to the Apostles. Jesus and the Apostles believed in Sacred Tradition! There are several points in the New Testament that were not written in the Old Testament, but are found in the Mishnah. What was oral tradition, the Lord and his Apostles placed to the level of scripture! Also St. Paul enstructs us to hold fast to the TRADITIONS that we recieved from them either by oral statments or the written word. He does not even give priority here but counts them together. We are to follow their example.

"At Laodicea, on the River Lycus, where a choice of routes presented itself, his guards selected the more northerly, which brought the prospective martyr through Philadelphia and Sardis, and finally to Smyrna, where Polycarp, his fellow-disciple in the school of St. John, was bishop." This is from the Catholic Encyclopedia, seems fairly historical in it's application.

You have Black churches in the SBC as well as White churches in the SBC, many of themdo not mingle. Still, The fact that St. John was in Ephesus is without doubt. Eusebius, says that the Apostles Peter and Paul, who planted the faith in Antioch, left directions that Ignatius should succeed Evodius as bishop of that city; he states further that Ignatius retained the office for forty years, proving himself in every way an exemplary pastor. The Church was persecuted thus we rely on tradition.

We live in something called the "New Testament", a new Covenant! Jeremiah once prophesied that God would establish such a Covenant and Jesus initiated it. Through this Covenant, Sunday became the day of the Lord. Sorry that you have been left behind with a group founded in 1863.

Sounds like some SDA members have been decieved again? To properly understand the Catholic Faith, you need an understanding of the Old Testament particularly the Covenants. The Catholic Faith did change the Sabbath day, but in Apostolic times. Not later as some seem to think. St. Ignatius of Antioch who was a follower of St. John refered to Sunday as "The Lord's Day". St. Justin Martyr speaks of this about 145 A.D.

The Church teaches that the Crucifixion was most likley on a Wednesday due to the Essene calendar that had been used. We can see this if we look at Scripture where the Gospels tell us that they were bringing out the sheep for the slaughter about the same time as the Beginning was commencing and before It Finished. Although Good Friday is celebrated perhaps inaccurately in technicality, the observance opens up aspect of the mystery.

Well enough; that pagan Easter Bunny rubbish drives me nuts too. There's a thing I am glad I have not had part of from childhood. I also couldn't be happier that the Protestants finally switched over to the Gregorian calendar and away from the Easte-Bunny New Year calendar.

@MenechemShaul, Excuse me for butting in here, but I've also wondered about the "roots of catholicism in Judaism", which didn't sound right to me either. When I heard him say the following on his show "don't give out tracts to those who want to witness to Jews, as sometimes they work and sometimes they don't". "Give them soup or ice-tea, you don't have to talk about religion with them all the time". "Share your life with them as a Catholic and they'll want to know about Christ???"

@Catholicist, Please excuse me for butting into this conversation, but are you aware of the 'fact' that there were some Jews who 'did' follow Jesus Christ, and who also become the first 'Christians' in the church? And NO, not all Jews are waiting for the Messiah, some already know who He is (how about groups like Jews for Jesus, The Chosen People Ministries, Zola Levitt Ministries, just to name a few). I've never heard of a Catholic Jew.

If he's following the scriptures the way God/Jesus says he and the rest of us are supposed to, then what lies is he telling? @jebeja please, if i were and the church lying to u or to all people then it wouldn't be preaching WHOLE BIBLE. Many protestants or whoever now who call themselves bible believing christians are just doing what usually others do on a daily bases. going to work and talking, etc, like an athiest will do. to me that is a secular christian who has fallen to this new age movement of Me, Me, Me,..and Jesus. that's fine! but if one does not join the team, he or she will not make an impact to evangelise
