This is a homage to Steven Bochco's father, who was a prodigy concert violinist.

This scared me one night several years ago. I wasn't paying any attention to what was on the TV at night and all of a sudden there's this rapid, gloomy, dark violin melody started playing on my TV. I see the weird movements of the guy and the signature writing itself, and let's just say I didn't sleep well that night because of it. :-(
