It's funny how theists will vigirously deny the Ten Commandments are different even when you point out Exodus 34:27-28 stating God telling Moses to write those words and naming them the Ten Commamdments.

I hereby call foul on the use of Jeremiah 10 in stating that "God condemns Christmas trees." Anyone who wants to actually take the time to READ the verses in context will read that Jeremiah 10 discusses the making of idols, which God does condemn. "They cut a tree out of the forest AND A CRAFTSMAN SHAPES IT WITH A CHISEL." You'll forgive me, but I have never chiseled a Christmas tree into shape. And yes, I understand the point of that question, but I am tired of the out-of-context references.

I've reviewed the verse word-for-word with a Hebrew Lexicon and found no words which mean idol or carving. Therefore I think the KJV translation, is more accurate. (American Standard, Youngs Literal Translation, etc. share the translation)
Versions such as the NIV appear to be adding to the text.

We can see this in Hebrews chpts.9 &10, it talks about the offerings and how they were a shadow of figure of things to come and it says that Jesus is that which was to come and the offerings could now cease. I would post the vs's but, it would take up to much space. Look at it and let me know if this might answer what the offerings were for.

I knew for a while that there were two sets of ten commandments, and that the version we studied in a Catholic school was not the original. However, I have to admit that I thought you were referring to the one we studied.
Now, there is even a difference between the second version in the bible and the second version we studied. The bible lists a commandment forbidding idolotry. But the Catholics omit the idolotry commandment and split the last commandment (which forbids coveting) in two.

I have the same problem- whenever I tell a Catholic friend of mine about a cruel deed God committed, e.g. command to kill newborns, she says that it didn't happen, but that they either translated the bible incorrectly, OR that you have to take into account the times when this happened, and see it in context.
It's funny how Christians say atheists can't read the bible literally, but if you don't read it literally how are you meant to read it? Are the commandments literal (whatever version)? Is thou shalt not kill, a literal statement? Who is to say what is literal and what isn't?

lordnir- Again the cow was w/o SPOT, this couldn't be the devil, for the devil has spots. Remember was to bringforth the MAGIC WATER (the gospel) so that we can use it for purification. lordnir- Thanks for your understanding. I agree that when we interprete scripture we should do by other scripture and through the imagination of our minds. We can see this in Hebrews chpts.9 &10, it talks about the offerings and how they were a shadow of figure of things to come and it says that Jesus is that which was to come and the offerings could now cease. I would post the vs's but, it would take up to much space. Look at it and let me know if this might answer what the offerings were for.

Tigerkitten- The bible tells us so,it states that Jesus spoke it parables & w/o a parable he did not speak.Jesus is the word of God and so is the bible,so the bible is a parable.The things written in the OT did happen and the laws were to be followed,but they were establish by God to teach us certain principle about Christ & his plan for salvation.There are 2 types of parables,true historical events & stuff such as the fig tree & mustard seed, we are to look for the teaching of these stories.

I knew for a while that there were two sets of ten commandments, and that the version we studied in a Catholic school was not the original. However, I have to admit that I thought you were referring to the one we studied.
Now, there is even a difference between the second version in the bible and the second version we studied. The bible lists a commandment forbidding idolotry. But the Catholics omit the idolotry commandment and split the last commandment (which forbids coveting) in two.

Where as with D&D, all you have to be afraid of is getting jammed inside of your locker with 100% pure cotton being wedged up inside your crack. I still see quite a bit of similarities here.

lol the "unclean" one. Im soooooooo fucked. Ive been to many grave yards and walked ontop of them. oh well :-) to late now. then for the abortion one. That just goes to show that "god" is for abortion. hmmm seems odd that "god" would be for murder......oh wait lol he has killed billions upon billions for no reason already. well not really because he doesnt exist. :-)

My favorite one was the suggestion to remain a unmarried unless you can't control your sexual urges. I remember laughing the first time I read that after becoming an atheist. When I was a Christian I must have glossed over it.

Do you think any Christians will actually attempt this? They cherry-pick everything from the bible to make it read what they want and ignore all the baloney.
For the record I got 4 out of 8, those 10 commandments are completely foreign to me and look bizarre, lol.

I have the same problem- whenever I tell a Catholic friend of mine about a cruel deed God committed, e.g. command to kill newborns, she says that it didn't happen, but that they either translated the bible incorrectly, OR that you have to take into account the times when this happened, and see it in context.

It's funny how Christians say atheists can't read the bible literally, but if you don't read it literally how are you meant to read it? Are the commandments literal (whatever version)? Is thou shalt not kill, a literal statement? Who is to say what is literal and what isn't?

It doesn't seem that 'thou shalt not kill' is a literal statement if you only look at the example that God gives.
Someone counted the people in the bible who were killed by God and I forgot how many, but God seemed to have killed more than the devil!

i get this all the time as well but how can you take kill every one let no live as out of context when god tell his chosen to let know one live. when i asked my mom what about the killing of baby's she said i just don't think of it like that i said when would you think it was alright to kill a baby she said never so i said so how do you defend the old testament she stopped and changed the subject. i would show her you vid but she said she wont watch any atheist vids as they are from the devil

though there is somewhere in the bible ill have to find it where they talk about some covenant where you can eat certain things that were once prohibited, they taught it in fundi school. Ill get back to you on this. But for all i know its probably garbage like everything else they taught me.
