  • Funny ha ha, or funny strange?

  • Lou Caputo... :-) Theres something funny about that name.. I don't know what though... :-)

  • Magic Lantern firmware has been released, so manual audio control without AGC is now available.

  • I wonder why some of the T2i/550D has 550D on the camera and some has T2i on it so is it mean something to either one? If you could please response to my question I would appreciate it. Thank you.

  • @HerZong : Here in europe they are called the 550d and in the states rebel t2i.

  • @HerZong hello!!! T2i, 550D and kiss X4, it's all the same, exactly the same camera. but it only differs in the manufacturing place/country, T2i is released for USA, kiss X4 is the term use in japan for this camera and in other country this camera is known to be the 550D, but all have exactly the same functions.

  • think you (:

  • I Hope I get hired from jobs I've applied I would love to start my own channel but, I don't have a good computer and I don't have a camera*crossing fingers*

  • Is there any rumors of a new rebel coming out like a t3i or something?

  • @heitzelalvarenga yeah, there's the t3i or the 600D depending where you live :) It came out 7 of Feb this year :)

  • Thanks for the Video!!! :D

  • You can control the AGC now, if you get magic lantern on it..... Who wants to trade a 7D for two 550s? I wan't to get rid of my 7D grrr.

  • where's part II ?!

  • @xmeerzx

    Part II has been posted!

  • You mentioned that you dont need Neutral Density filters with this camera. But this could not be further than the truth. Using the 180 degree shutter speed rule. ND filters are a necessity. Upping the shutter speed will cause problems with the video. So unless you want to close down the aperture you are forced to use a ND filter.

  • @thepiecesfit

You absolutely need ND with this camera outdoors. My comment on ND filters was in reference to standard video cameras and the tricks you have to do to achieve shallow depth of field. Thanks to the 35 mm lenses on the T2i, you don't have to resort to any tricks to get that look. But again, you DO need ND when shooting video outdoors.

  • Regarding your complaints with video on the 550D, the Magic Lantern custom firmware addresses all those issues and it's on its way to the 550D.

  • @TGM337

Who complained about the video? The video quality is excellent, that's the thrust of the review. The AUDIO leaves something to be desired, but that can be overcome with an external recorder. Are you just pimping the Magic Lantern firmware? Regardless, I think that will add some much needed capabilities to the camera, so thanks for that.

  • @LouCap

I didn't mean video quality complaints, but rather the video recording capabilities - more specifically the limitations of the audio.

Honestly I've never tried the Magic Lantern firmware. I'm about to get my first DSLR (the 550D) in a couple of weeks and I've been reading up a lot on it recently - which is why I found your video here.

I just figured I'd let you know about the Magic Lantern firmware since it seems to address most, if not all, of the issues you mentioned in your review.

  • @TGM337

Gotcha! You're correct that the Magic Lantern firmware will address many of the issues I raised. But, as a video guy, even without the the firmware, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this camera. It's a crazy bargain!

  • @LouCap

Yeah, Canon has really raised the bar for entry level DSLRs with the 550D.

Lots of my friends have Nikon DSLRs so I've been contemplating getting one of them for a while, but after reading about the 550D it suddenly made the choice a whole lot simpler. It packs a ridiculous amount of features at a very attractive price point. So a bargain indeed.

Anyway, thank you for your video. Granted I've made my choice already, but it's always nice to see people justifying my decision. :)

  • Oh nice! The menu looks very simple! Thats always the tripping point for me. Nice demo, thanks Lou.

  • canon eos 550D truly fascinates the world
