Yeah, those networks are popping in and out of existence because you have poor connections with them. That means that the data flow will be slow, if you manage to connect at all.

The closer the network the better

Can you scan more than one network at once, or does just one take up all of airport?

When I stop the scan before it's reached the desired numbers, will data be lost, or saved until I start it again?

If I'm scanning a network that has more users using it and more often, will I collect more packets and unique IVs quicker?

Thank you kindly, I tried to make it as thorough as possible. Answers:

Yes, it should collect information on all visible networks, on all channels, all of the time. (which doesn't slow anything down much, which is why I say "just leave everything alone" in the video for the options. Makes everything simpler.)

When you close the program, SAVE!! Do not quit w/o saving. The file you want to reopen will be a ".kismac" file.

you need aircrack-ng! run a fakeauth arp-replay attack to associate with the router, capture an arp request, and then you can inject packets of data! it can be done in five minutes!

zomg! True if you own a computer that uses a networking card that has the ability to inject packets! Now see here, Apple computers use a technology (Google "Apple Airport") that supports no such service! Therefore you can not use said method!

Ok so i have collected around 500,000 unique IV's. But whenever I try to crack the code (weak against both) it takes forever. It is checking around 1000 keys per 30 seconds.. what is happening? why is it going so slow? How many keys does it take to crack the code?

If you have more information, the quicker this step will be. The better your computer is, the quicker this step will also be. It took me 20 mins (on a silver Macbook - 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo - 4GB RAM) to crack when I had already gathered 500,000 - 600,000 collected packets.

No. Listen to the videos. You need a wifi card that supports packet injection. The Apple Airport does NOT. So, no. No Backtrack 5 for Mac users.

@InDogWeTrust7 I actually get that problem with OSX from time to time, either from downloading .dmg files or even from copying them. The file just seems to be F'd up for no good reason. Try deleting your .dmg file, re-downloading it, and re-opening it.

Also, make sure you're downloading the right version. There's two versions to choose from on the KisMAC site.

The only thing you'd need Internet for is downloading the program KisMAC. If you already have that, you don't need Internet, just begin scanning :D

If you have like 500, then no. Try if you have a good amount. If it doesn't work after about 20 minutes after you initiate the cracking, cancel and wait for more to build up. Just be patient, young grasshopper.

why did you add the active mode driver? you didn't use it. you should activate "keep everything" from the preferences to scan the collected packets with another tool than kismac to increase your chances and to prevent data loss in case of a crash of kismac - yes it happens!

Yes, you would. This is theoretically useful for like, cracking a network near your home. One that you're constantly around but don't have the password to.

I point out in the video where the password shows up in the program. It's under "key". The rest is basic knowledge involving connecting to a wireless network. So, you connect to the network, and when it prompts you to enter the password, enter the one that was revealed by KisMAC. Copy it, remove the colons that reside in it, and enter it. By 'remove the colons' I mean like this:

B5:F4:A6... = B5F4A6...

My best guess is that you downloaded the wrong version.  Go back to the KisMAC website (link in description) and make sure you download the link that says "KisMAC 0.3.2 (10.6+ only, thus Intel-only)" at the top of the page. Other than that, it's some issue that I can't fix. I didn't design the software or anything. Good luck :>

It WILL disconnect you as soon as you start the scan. If you started the scan and nothing happened (just the loss of connection via WiFi), then the problem is most likely in your preferences. Be sure to go to Prefrences > Drivers > then, select Airport Extreme PASSIVE and ACTIVE mode and add them both. Hope that helps. ^^

You're exactly right. What comes up will be a bunch of random letters and numbers separated by colons, like this~~ "B4:55:DF:0A" ... and so on...

You'll enter that (without colons) right into the password box, like this~~ "B455DF0A" ... and so on.

Yes it is downloading fully and extracting correct, I downloaded the version r239 wich I tought it´s the version on your website for my mac os x 10.4

When I open it and check on the preferences it freezes the preferences screen and never close. When I go back to the principal kismac window to scan it never detects anything.

Now the problem with this one is that never changes the packets numbers and the other one either so I do not know what I am doing wrong.

The brute force attack (basically) is the same thing, but has the potential to take literally tens of years to crack a password, especially if the password is a mix of capital & lowercase letters, like "PaSsWorD"... and the wordlist attack is used to crack WPA encrypted networks. :D
