This gets worse as the nation heads toward economic collapse. I have a feeling we haven't seen 'nuthin' yet. Just wait til TSHTF and millions are without food, water or shelter in a couple years. What you see here is only the prelude to what's coming, and it ain't gonna be pretty.
@basspig Man, I have the same feeling... this thing with the copper thieves was happening since the 1990s here in Bulgaria, but recently they stopped. I was really shocked to see you're getting the same thing there. Currently the trend in BG is stealing car's catalytic converters and the assholes rip like 20-30 cars each week in the city i live in. Here we have a lot of poor people and i know there are some in the USA but I've never expected that.
@sanches2 40% of the US population is living below the poverty line. Don't believe the propaganda that our government puts out. People are desperate here. Many kids don't have proper nutrition and a lot of families are living in tent cities. Economy is crashing or crashed already.. the riots have barely begun yet, but when the majority realize what's going on, there's gonna be blood in the streets.
The news people are dumb. Now copper thiefs who watch this video now know he is hiding the copper under ground. Wow. He is a much easier target for those guys now. I think he should get some guard dogs or a cat like burger and fries
that guy in the security video got way more than $100 off that, that large gauge wire is a little over a pound a food without the insulation, and #1 bare copper goes for like $3.25 a lb
Have they ever heard of a puck lock.... its the same style as pop machine lock. There nearly impossible to cut. Unlike your so called harden steal master lock witch can be cut like butter with any set of bolt cutters in less than 3 seconds...? a puck lock would take over 10-15 mins minum and several drills and grinders to get threw... Now what if there was 2 or 3 of these locks... it wouldnt be worth there time. wow $90 for 3 of these locks and your bitching about $3800? PUCK LOCK PUCK LOCK PUCK
WHat a criminal, "epidemic" ? lmfao..........trying to survive in America these days is the damn epidemic! I'm no thief, but lets call it like it is. These guys were most likely trying to have heat in their homes, or gas to get back and forth to work, or shoes for their kids, know one knows! everyone guesses! regardless! your opinion matters not, its oly going to get worse and worse until our government kicks out the damn texicans and allows us our jobs back! AMEN to those who get away!
Nearly all copper thieves have escalating dangerous drug habits and crumbling financial situations. That's why Posh and other brands of "bath salts" have been introduced to their world.
It kills quickly, leaving no thrashing vegetables to linger. Screw 'em.
@chernobylFarms Nearly all huh? and just where did yo get your self minded statistics? are you insane? gas 4 bucks a gallon, people working two jobs and still cant make it? I would say there are far more normal, working people who are struggling through life, trying to feed their family, then there are drug addicts these days. If you dont want it stolen? get the fk rid of it, while some kids somewhere does without, theres no need for copper to set in a damn barrel!
@chernobylFarms I have a good paying career. I own a construction company. I do not need to steal to survive. But w/the state of the economy, you are going to see more and more people "loosing moral values" in efforts to eat/pay the bills. Serious increase in thefts near where i live. I heard on the news there was double the usual number of thefts. There is reason behind it all.
good to know my old heatsink for my pc is only worth about 2 bucks in scrap. I paid 50 for it. Copper is about $1.80 a pound that is a block of solid copper the size of a pack of cigarettes. We should make the penalty for stealing copper and aluminum steeper...
@mciceteade Thank you for using all caps so i could read what you were typing and if you're in the construction business its easy to obtain large quantities scrap metals for recycling
The punishment for stealing copper, should be like the punishment like in those Asian country's. You get caught stealing, you get stoned till you're crippled and then you get burned alive. Giving people a fine that they can't afford, won't do anything to stop them in the future.
@cupru24 c'mon over and steal from me, I'll gladly fill your body full of lead. That's all you copper thievs are good for anyway, bullet holders. Karma will catch up to you, hope you get electrocuted and roasted to a crisp next time you reach for a piece of copper. Fuck you low life. Get a job, earn money, and contribute to the world.
Is that why you type like a retard? Since you say fuck the law, I hope you get robbed, beat up, and raped and then the officers say they don't care. Then we will see how much you appreciate the laws.
How can you be so stupid? This is what happens with high unemployment. People trying to survive. If he was working, he would not have the time to commit crimes.
I am going to school to become an electrician and the guy that teaches the class is also an inspector and he investigates deaths and fires caused by electricity. He told us he investigated a death where a guy broke into an Nstar sub station to steal copper and was vaporized trying to steal a copper bus bar. all they found was some skin and a couple of bones over the fence in the street. don't mess around with this shit.
Crack will make you do all kinds of stupid stuff. To some there's a deviant psychology that makes them value putting more effort into stealing $10 than earning $50
the price ranges from 1$ per pound to 9$ per pound. that stuff rarely happens where i live so i guess its kinda a cheap but i work in some places where copper is HEAVILY guarded. But 450 lbs of copper x 4$ lb = 1.9k TAX FREE! thats how much low income individuals make a month, so really its a good deal especially if its 9$ a lb
really, its 3 bucks a pound over here, witch is perfect because my grandfather is an electriction so when he goes to a job i get all the old copper and take it in
Keith Snyder is a piece of shit drug addict. Thank these lowlife scumbags for wasting our tax dollars. Not only are they stealing copper from innocent businesses, they are stealing from hard working tax payers.
You see folks, this is what drugs do to you. You have to haul 100lbs of copper just for $100. How pathetic.. Once an addict, always an addict. Lock them up for good or execute them. You cannot rehabilitate addicts, they are weak and dont deserve anything.
People steal. Plain and simple. Take a husband with a wife and two kids, paying a mortgage, paying bills. He's looking to get ahead too. It can be stealing time from work or front dooring a case of soda underneath the shopping cart hoping the cashier won't see it.
People have been stealing copper pipes for years. I had a tenant of mine do it on his way out the door. He was a computer guys and the wife was a criminal justice major.
you can think the ridicuiosly hight copper prices for this mess and all becouse of that stupit blasted war in iraq driveing amo supplys short we need to stop scarering those unstable muslims
i'v had copper stolen twice, in de dead of night, its like it vanished without a trace, i how have boobies traps set up every night to kill them lol, i still have 3 ton of copper in my yard, n theres no security ,,over 10000 dollars worth lying around, i really should buy a dog! best security
Copper thievery didn't used to be such a problem. Copper is too expensive - we need to be mining more of it, rather than let the price go out of hand. We also need to catch these thieves and make them pay for the damage they cause!
think about what has to go wrong in your life before you start to steal copper. i was doing it for a few months while homeless to get back on my feet. jail will do nothing to the copper theif, i would have been glad to go sleep in a bed down at the jail no problem... the jail was right next to a construction site and when i got out i was going to go straight over to the construction site to steal more copper.
If a copper thief causes $50,000 damage, they should be required to either pay $50,000 or do $50,000 worth of work to pay for it. And people would not be so willing to steal if they had to pay for it with more than jail time. Jail is, as you admit, too nice.
@plaugewolf Money system? You don't need money to live. THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE STEALING THE PROBLEM IS HOW EASY IT IS TO SELL TO SCRAPYARDS.
THERE SHOULD BE A MAXIMUM ANUAL AMOUNT YOU AS A PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL CAN TURN IN.
AND IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN THAT AMOUNT YOU HAVE TO PROOF WHERE IT CAME FROM.
LETS SAY MORE THAN 30 POUNDS A MONTH THATS ABOUT 100$ SO HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE MORE THAN 1200 BUCKS WORTH OF "LEGAL" COPPER A YEAR?

now that they have money they want to drive/buy cars like we do
even if we sell them ALL cars on our roads for scrap it wont be enough

i'm not counting india yet thats another half a BILLION people
so keep exporting good US jobs to China and India
