When I read the lines "Syrup lies upon your tounge ge latine saliva spills the flash of a guillotine a smile" I thought it was definitely about a predator and his victims. "With their guilt and shame they think they're to blame." It was kind of disturbing to read when I got Tinderbox when I was 12.
This song sounds even better today then it did back in the 80's! Siouxsie Is Awesome! IMO this is one of her best dance hits! You can even hear a litlle bit of Spellbound in this song!
the vocals drown out the guitar rifts , why , why do they do that all the time. i want siouxsie to re do the song again and not drown out the guitar !!!!
say what you like, 'tinderbox' was a great album- "this unrest", "cities in dust", and "land's end".... and the composition of the cover is to die for.
Siouxsie's music is not for mere mortals to understand...she's on a higher plane than most pop singers then or especially now!!! I mean who else can take songs about Pompeii and child molesters and turn them into art? This is a rare talent and those of us who are in the know and appreciate her are better for it!!!
one of my ultimate favorite songs by her. this song just pumps me up. makes me want to be a teen again and at a newave house party drinking and smoking and dancing with the girls. :D
Why is it that the really good songs like this one are so un-popular, but the really shitty songs by "singers" like Brittney Spears are extreamly popular?
tell me about it I'm 24 and get stupid comments for liking this stuff. Still I know it's a classic! lol I would like to say thanks to my bro for getting this song 4 me love ya xx
Why is Britney more popular than Siouxsie? Because idiots outnumber people with brains. We like this because we THINK it sounds good. Idiots are told what to think & what to like. Thus we end up with Britney Spears, Avril Lavine (however the fuck you spell it), Lil Wayne, & Soulja Boy.
yes adamcharney, im thankful that u ave put this on, because i was around ten years old and i used to video music box on the vid timer, and i watched it twice, and i loved this loads and became a siouxsie fan, lol. my sis recorded over it,and ive never seen this vid of hers since!!!! over 13 years!!! so thanx loads!
Actually I've heard that this song is about a friend of her parents who owned a candy shop and tried to molest or molested Siouxsie when she was a girl. I could be wrong though. Either that or it's about a man...a man made out of candy. :p
Songs like Israel are awesome but this was always my fave Siousie and the Banshees song. Always thought it should have been the theme song to the movie Candyman.
She's not the mother of goth, or the grandmother.
she is the goddess of goth: absolutely immortal.

Because the guitar is not the focus of the song, Siouxsie's lyrics/vocals are...they tell the story...

Awesome! The best SATB song ever. The bass line is among the top 5 of all times - Steve Severin plays excellent!
