  • Damn! You should have shot the damn thing coming in the boat. Oh, I forgot. Most Mass. residents are subject to the most extremist forms of gun owner control in the nation. Sorry......

  • Oh yeah! Guns are great to have on a boat 20 miles out to sea, good thinking buddy!

I'll bring my AK with me next time and blow that fish to smithereens!

  • @DougYorkNo1 Thank you, good buddy. Many boat owners, outside of Mass. of course, carry firearms onboard their vessels. Since an AK seems to come to your inquisitive mind this time, why not an American made AR15?

    Your thinking buddy, Fagan.

  • Arrrrr! you must be be a pirate matee?

  • @DougYorkNo1

    hahahaha

  • @DougYorkNo1 hahaha sikk man!!!!!!

  • @DougYorkNo1 yeh they are, its rare but there are pirates in almost every ocean, they are most common by samalia, but you'll see a few in the atlantic and it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it

  • @jalilz29

Keep it simple, it's a fish! line + Hook + bait + hungry fish = lunch

  • mude hake

  • its a cod. def. not a cobia or catfish

  • i read the other comments and they used clames to catch this! i use night crawlers and catch fish this size at least once everytime i go fishing in indiana, but good catch from your boat, i hear its rly rare for catfish to be caught in salt water

  • thats a nice fish

  • shit i can catch catfish and carp that big at my uncles pond here in ky and at a pay lake called or used to be called tims paylake

  • @skaterzlife

That sounds kind of like shooting chickens in the coop bud.

Not much of a challenge there I'd say.

  • you want a really big catfish, you should try the Mekong River in Thialand. They get to be about nine feet long, and can tip the scales at nearly seven hundred pounds. Them puppies eat humans, and I'm really not making that up, there have been documentaries on it and everything.

  • @FiestyCat86

Fly to Thailand and get eaten by a giant catfish! Wow! now don't that sound like a load of fun.

Might be better to check out the titty bars instead.

    Just sayin!!!

  • you think thats a big catfish come fish the james river in va about 25 miles downstream from richmond. i caught a 27 pounder from shore and have heard of people catching 50-70 pounders in the channel. the va record is 78lbs i think. but still thats some good eatin on your boat

  • actually the va record is 102 pounds, and it was pulled from the james river in may of 2009. im from that area but i do all my catfishing on the pamunkey river. i like to eat my catfish and the james river is just too polluted. richmond used to dump raw sewage straight into it but i dont think they do anymore but i still dont wanna test it.

  • @mountainmanNC

I agree with you there. Lived right next to it for a number of years.

  • @itwontme1111

I lived right next to it. Way to polluted for my taste.

  • No way. Dogfish barely reach 10 pounds! Plus, dogfish are a species of shark...

  • with that song on in the background and the mood i was picking up on the boat seems like a real nice fun time. haha nice fish

  • @norulesjono

Dylan playing on the radio, good friends, nice weather, calm seas, It was a gem of a day.

  • It called a Ling or a Coba !

  • lmfao ppl ive been catfishin since i was like 3 its a catfish u can look it up theres not that many saltwater catfish and there very hard to find.

  • what bait did they us to cathc this catfish

  • clams

  • @AmericansSexualPreds

I think we were using whole clams that day. that's what we usually use, or mackerel.

But, it was a while ago.

  • @xR2Kxbanshee there are several thousand species of marine catfish... what the hell are you talking about?

  • Isn't that big dad caught one bigger last month

  • @furri951

  • It looks like a really good time had by all. Did anyone find it hilarious that the fisherman is wearing backwoods camouflage for fishing? Hahahaha.

  • Well, Yeah doesn't everyone?

You don't want the fish to see you coming!

  • Hilarious man! Take me out sometime. You sound like an awesome friend and sportsman. I'm partial to large mouth bass!

  • thats no catfish but good catch

  • its a blue cat isnt it?

  • thats not a catfish it's a bluegill

  • is that a ling cod???

  • Catfish don't live in the ocean. It's a Hake

  • catfish live everywhere except for alaska so they get really big in the ocean

    but it is a hake

just wanted to say that cats live in saltwater

  • ya channel cats are really common where i liv eebut the occasional big sail cat is awesome those are the only cats i know and it wasnt either of those so ya mud hake

  • yeah they do Arius maculatus look it up, aka sea catfish, this vid isnt one but they are real

  • thats a gaff top

  • thats a gaff top catfish. pretty good size actually

  • It's a mud hake. They're all over the north Atlantic, and grow to four feet.

This one is only about 3 feet, it seems.

  • Big for the species, but I've seen a 570 pound hammerhead brought in before. Now THAT'S a fish.

  • go look up CaptChancey on youtube he has great catches- a 1k pound hammerhead

  • HawgLife!

  • not a cat, they don't have scales, they have long whiskers, but good catch!

  • Agreed. There aren't many species of ocean-dwelling catfish (see families Ariidae and Plotosidae), and none get that big. Those that do live in the ocean have prominent pectoral and dorsal spines. Furthermore, they tend to have several pairs of barbels originating from above, below, and on the sides of the mouth, not just from the bottom. But a fantastic catch nonetheless!

  • that didnt have scales

  • Thats definetly not a catfish for a fact. i've worked out on party boats for years and catfish do not look like that

  • Maybe it's the just the angle or video, but it doesn't look 45 pounds.

  • i mjst have been hight to think that was a fuckin cat fish lol

  • smoking the ganjah, man!

    and seeing the giant catfish

  • that is deffinatly a mud hake

  • not a catfish

  • deff a mud hake

  • its not a catfish so it must be a mud hake

  • thats is not a catfish for a fact

  • it will go 40 to 50 lbs its a blue cat or a channle i would have to see a better pic most likey blue cat from wat it looks like

  • dude first of all you dont spell it like that channel

  • since when are Blues in the ocean?

  • just to clear things up im a commercial fisherman from gloucester and this is no wolffish wich is also known as a salt water catfish this is a white hake the biggest of the hakes i fish for silver hake and red hake as well as cod haddock etc. year round.the one in the video is a big one but the get bigger i weighed one that i pulled out of a 15,000 lb. set that we hauled in it weighed 62lbs. they were schooled up next to a shipwreck 155 fathoms down on muddy bottom but u can catchthem on hard

  • Wow, Thanks for the clarification!

62 lbs must have been a monster of a fish.

Do they get really big around as the weight goes up like the Codfish do?

or is it more in the length?

Can't wait to hit the water again for a chance at some thing bigger.

The Haddock was great this year.

But, hardly caught any keeper cod.

  • wuts a mud hake

  • very interesting fish even though i dont fish for catfish i go for black marlins and marlins that is one fucking fish

  • I'm not from US or GB (english is not my first language), but I think that mud hake would be the name for the very similar species (phycis blennioides) which is almost identical to forkbeard (phycis phycis), but lives more on the muddy ground and deeper, and it's colour is much, much brighter. I am sure, comparing the clip, that this must be darker forkbeard Phycis Phycis. I took a lot of them these years but never so big. In Mediterranean even ten times smaller of 45 lbs is considered very big.

  • The flesh was a little stringy.

But, was firm, white and tasted the same as Cod to me.

  • That's it, exactly similar to cod, very light taste. When they are smaller, as we catch, even the flesh is very week and soft. Are you the guy in the "camouflage" that boated the fish?

  • No, that is by buddy John reeling in the fish. I am behind the camera recording his catch.

  • I don't know if the right name is mudhake, cause this fish lives on rocky bottom inside the caves, and goes out in night. On the depth of 350 feet it's probably night all arround the clock. It's clearly visible from the video that whiskers are forked on the end and that they grow behind and below the gills, in front of pectoral fins. This was most probably the world record, because I've never heard this species grow to 45lbs.

The biggest one I saw was probably 8lbs...

  • The Captain called it an Ocean catfish.

Which I am certain is not the proper name for it!

But, he was familair with the type of fish that it was having caught them over the years.

He said he had never seen one of these this big.

  • WR! This is an incredibly large night fish called also FORKBEARD (phycis phycis), of the gadidae (cod) fammily. Is there any data on how big it was (weight, lenght)? Probably it is a World record. Where it was caught?

  • Definately not a catfish. Look at the shape of its fins.

  • dude awesome but i dont think its a catfish arent they freshwater?

  • yea i think theres 3 kinds of saltwater catfish and usually they never grow this big

  • Bull Shit

  • seriously

  • sorry wrong guy

  • LOOKS LIKE A LING COD

  • hahah the big guy got his dinner. look at the smile on his face. since he caught it i bet he is not sharing :_)
