This movie is definitely a great addition to the history of greatest films ever made.. from the direction to the casting to the make-up.. and ofcourse, the book and story being the hero..
I gotta say though.. James McAvoy never fails to awe me even more with his every movie..
even his cheesiest movie -- Bollywood Queen -- seemed to have substance once he came into the framce
i have to admit i never cry either, but the end of the movie, i was in a fit of tears, and called my friend, absolutley SCREAMING at her. This is the best movie ever.
I'm shocked that the movies ending wasn't the same as the book...I like the book's better. I agree that the book was heartbreaking but in a very beautiful way.
i think they made the ending of the movie different from the ending in the book just for the veiwers who havent read the book would get a better understanding of what was happening, because in the end of the book briony thinks the truth, and i guess they thought it would be better to voice it in the movie.
I still cry while reading the book even though I've seen the film! The book is so amazing and heartbreaking, and you just feel so close and connected to the characters, and so involved with the story, that it really touches you. Or at least it did with me! I absolutely loved it. And the movie too, of course:D
I loved it so much! I've seen so many videos about Atonement and, OH GOD, I can't wait until 17th January when it comes out in Russia!!! I love James!!!!!! He is so damn cute!!!
in the book the older briony says basically all that youve just said...
she says "how can a novleist acheive atonement when she is in reality also god. with the power to decide outcomes." i was mad when that line wasnt in the movie.
I've posted a response to this down below. Perhaps the book did deal with this issue in greater depth than the movie, but that would I guess mean that the movie's storyline was let down by that aspect.
The story's crap because you can hardly call it Atonement. The protagonist atoned in her own good time under her own terms in a manner that was completely ineffective for those who were aggrieved, or even the majority of her audience, which, in my opinion, made her look self indulgent and ego-centric. Even the manner in which she "atones" by apparently doing the right thing still accredits the eventual (fake) happiness of the couple to herself, in an act that she never did.
again..read the book first..when you read the book you will realize that it was too late for her to atone in anyway..she lost the battle...she never did ever get to make amends....she surely does make that clear. That does not make her fake..that makes her if anything realistic....because she knows now that no matter how hard she tries atonement will never come...but who am I kidding..you will stick to your opinion of course as most people do...oh well...hope you have time to give it a read..
I'd love to have time to read a number of books for leisure, unfortunately now that the movie's been a let down I don't see reading that book as a priority....
and no I haven't read the book but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on the storyline of the movie. The book would have to be pretty different for me to change my mind about that aspect of the storyline. False sexual allegations absolutely destroy lives. It's all very pretty and "nice" to say that she wrote a story (after they died) with a happy ending, but to someone who has been through it in reality, it comes off as weak and ineffective.
No, I think you're reading into what I've said too much. What I mean to say is that my opinion is on the storyline of the movie, not the storyline of the book. I accept what you and pixie say about the book being different... but lacking that in the movie, still makes the movie's storyline crap... imo.
You are so rigth in our cinema too... And special where the sister is coming all the people *cough* And hope that this never happen with them... in the scene where the sister broynie is in the hospital with all the hurt man.. A girl pass out!!
The movie was so diffrend to the trailer... BUt it was good!
hahah especially with your grandma... that was a fun evening. not at all uncomfortable. hahah lucky for me my nana was like "i only hope your men are just as good looking!"
I didn't think it was uncomfortable at all. It's really short and nothing is bared. It's really more of an intense and abrupt make-out scene. Do watch it with your friend, it's just amazing.
From what I understand, it is a very heated moment. I think it is a good looking and romantic love scene. I cannot wait to see it in the theater in the US, but we have to wait until December.

Is it just me or is Joe Wright hilarious. Not to name talented. Atonement is beautiful, on page and on screen.
