Everything she said is confined to the "virtual world". In the real world, gamers don't even meet the person the play the game with. They meet pixels that REPRESENT that person. Gamers are lazy, incompetent, hybrids that don't know how the real world works.

Because in online RPG's, we are forced to socialize and team up with other players so we will be rewarded with an epic item that we are personally interested in. We'll have to socialise/team-up or else nothing can be acchieved. And as you mentioned, that we can also simulate some types of future disastrous events that will take place in real-life, so we can learn how to prevent it. I really hope that in my lifetime, we can realise your idea's at some point. For the last centuries people were only mass-stimulated only for a period after when a war took place. Because only then, people reached out for each other and are more willingly progressive for a greater cause (the country). I think she should have worked more on her speech if she wanted her audience to understand better and not laugh at it, for example: using an "epic fail" in her speech made it sound kind of cheesy, not everyone there is a gamer and those people might feel like she can't relate to their point of view so they laugh. I think a good intermediate step would be to try to make educational games that were actually fun. I think if I knew half as much about the atomic elements as I did about pokemon elements, I would have probably aced all my chem classes. There are some games out there that can actually teach you some stuff, but they're too few and far between. Oh and as far as improving yourself goes, i spent as much time exercising as I've spent grinding in final fantasy, I'd have the body of a God.
This is bullshit. Games are played for fun. If you want to instill productivity in future generations, get them a good education, not a damn game console.
It is proven that you can learn more and better when you get the needed information through playing games or watching films (not documentations).

You lost me at climate change. How sad that a smart woman like this would still be so foolish and out of the loop that she believes the already proven fraud of what was formerly "global warming" and to become the ambiguous term "climate change". Her ideals and soul are beautiful and I admire her tenacity. The world is changing regardless of any output now. A game will not change a world, but people sure as hell will! I think she should have worked more on her speech if she wanted her audience to understand better and not laugh at it, for example: using an "epic fail" in her speech made it sound kind of cheesy, not everyone there is a gamer and those people might feel like she can't relate to their point of view so they laugh. She should have read a few books on how to express yourself on the stage or something similar. This is just my opinion, sorry for my bad English.

What she is saying can work, in theory. But what kind of a world would we live in where every problem has to be viewed as game in order to get anyone to do anything? The only idea from her presentation that I really like is that we should make everyone collaborate on solving real world problems. That really appeals to me.

I want what she's smoking! I sincerely hope her 'research' isn't being funded by the taxpayer. I'd say the basis or drive is probably only to attempt to attribute more credit to gamers. It's a simple reaction of her feeling gamers are getting less respect than they deserve, which is of course completely false. Some of the garbage she's come up with a 10 year old can show flaws in.
Also, if your goal is to be taken more seriously, restrain yourself from using the 'epic win' stupidity constantly.

She wastes 20 minutes telling people that people basically enjoy playing games and are more enthusiastic about playing them that they are about everyday things in reality. I think a good intermediate step would be to try to make educational games that were actually fun. I think if I knew half as much about the atomic elements as I did about pokemon elements, I would have probably aced all my chem classes. There are some games out there that can actually teach you some stuff, but they're too few and far between. Oh and as far as improving yourself goes, i spent as much time exercising as I've spent grinding in final fantasy, I'd have the body of a God.

A better education would be wonderful, but we don't already have that. we already have a game console in most houses in america, so how can we use that to our advantage? also, i think learning and being productive is fun, and that's what you do in those games. most people who play games must agree because if they didn't they'd spend their free time sleeping or watching tv.

I don't waste my time around saying everyone should help the ones in need, I actually get my ass off the chair and go help. Whenever a homeless person asks me for some money, I give them some. Whenever someone is troubled, I listen to them and help them with some psychology. That's not a horrible way to think.
