  • DAMN NATURE

  • o boy! you're so lucky to witness this!

  • this video is freacy

  • a bird fell to a mantis huh? who woulda guess...

  • how is hanging up side down holding twice your weight while eating not impressive? let alone catching a hummingbird with your hands

  • aww...i love hummers....and mantis....oh well.

  • Whats the matter with these praying mantis? they are all fucking psycho assholes!

  • That thing come by my house I kill it! Damn nature you scary!

  • Comment removed

  • Wow..impressive. that mantis is bad ass. I would pump that humming bird full of steroids n let that mantis bulk up some. Get that guy on a cycle n dominate that flower bush...lol

  • mmmm brains :)

  • wc!

  • oh but you couldn't beat that japanese wasp wimp

  • That's crazy!!!:0 I have never seen a mantis that big either!!!!

  • OMFG that's a huge mantis! Where teh hell do you live? The amazon??

  • p m 's are sooo awesome.! i want a pet one..lol and stupid 'captchas" should be banned

  • praying mantis may be worthy of being the honey badgers apprentice

  • id thump that mantis off the leaf

  • OH DAMN

  • Thats crazy... howd it get it!?

  • @RKirby92 It just sat in one spot until the hummer got close, and then...wham!! The manits can reach out and grab it's prey with incredible speed.

  • THUTHSKWALLACKZ

  • wow hummingbirds are pussies

  • why didnt you kill that sun of a gun praying mantis? do you want a less population of humming birds?

  • @MasterChiefBeast93 wow dude, its one freaking hummingbird, yeah thats definately gonna ruin all of the other millions of hummingbirds lives :/

  • @Zeldapop7 my brother sorry about that -_-

  • Why do they always eat the head first?

  • @Leviskardsen Brains are scrumptious and luscious and full of high-energy super-digestible fatty matter. Plus, the other end doesn't smell as good.

  • @Leviskardsen i know i is so f***in weird

  • imagine this things were the size of a dog.. they would easily eat us :(

  • dang nature you scary

  • OM NOM NOM

  • That's so crazy! He can take out a bird but not a Hornet?

  • It's not a contrived situation in a terrarium, so the mantis could have made a lucky catch by lying unseen behind the flower and lashing out lightning fast when the bird came within range, rather like white crab spiders catching bees. No humming birds in NZ so can't comment first hand. But I have to smile at Kyle17206 for the comment about mum being pissed off!

  • wowserz

  • Damn nature you scary!

  • Lol im actually surprized this mantis even got to get close to the hummingbird, much less take one down (it HAD to be dead already, or nesting or something), i have a good amount of hummingbirds around my yard, and not only are they REALLY fast, there was also one that was agressive (towards lizards at least) and put up a hell of a fight when anything went near its nest.

So I'm guessing this one didn't have a fair encounter seeing as a mantis took it down

  • @Ramonerdna well hummingbirds require that they take a long rest and recharge every fo often, and while doing so they remain almost completely still, I would guess the mantis caught it resting

  • Nature is creepy sometimes

  • Praying Mantis's are the Shaolin Monks of the insect world.

  • what the fuck? i never knew mantis's were naturally on steroids

  • Talk about life hanging on a thread.

  • From the day we arrive on the planet And, blinking, step into the sun There's more to see than can ever be seen More to do than can ever be done There's far too much to take in here More to find than can ever be found But the sun rolling high Through the sapphire sky Keeps great and small on the endless round It's the Circle of Life
  • that's actually quite awesome

  • THE FUCK!?

  • Beautiful mantis

  • Mantis don't need venom to take down something bigger/probaly stronger than it. /uess their just too badass for that stuff...

  • I still don't understand how mantis can kill mice and birds. They don't have venom and their claws are not as strong as to overcome the inertia of the insanely rapid wing-strokes of a hummingbird. I wish I knew what I was missing here...

  • @UTLonghornPistol the Mantis pulled out his 9 and shot that punk ass bird in its feathery ass

  • Oh great... I'm in that part of youtube again. :(

  • I love both of these animals. I don't know if I should feel happy or sad.

  • Kudos to the Mantis for catching a hummingbird. Those things flutter very fast and to get caught by an insect? Shoot, the Mantis earned this meal.

  • Mantis is hanging upside down eating a bird...

    Hes one tuf muthafuka!!!

  • good thing they don't get much bigger, like.....the size of cats, cause then we'd all be in trouble! O.o

  • Birds even? Damn. We're renaming these things to Preying Mantis.

  • y u no fly away

  • SILLY BIRD,YOU MUST EAT INSECTS,NOT THEM EATS YOU...

  • Why did you call the video praying mantis vs hummingbird there was no fight

  • FATALITY!!!!!!!!

  • DAMN nature you SCARY!!!

  • i bet you he felt like a badass, shit i'm top of the food chain and i can't even catch one of them squirley bastards!

  • i used 2 love mantises, but now im terrified of em

  • Scyther used quick attack, pidgey fainted

  • @ledzelda9 more like pidgey died...

  • that's one badass mantis

  • 0.o

  • fuck that mantis!! ate my fav. bird hu hu hu!!

  • they can kill a freaking bird but not a hornet???... :(

  • lol i showed this to my mom and now shes pissed at me >:D

  • @Kyle17206 Hey, it's been a month. Is your mom still pissed at you?

  • @Kyle17206 lol no

  • that sort of looks like salvia greggii. I just had to move one because I was trenching. the hummingbirds still come back looking for it. that herb's a little peculiar in that it sort of has a ganja-y sort of smell.

  • Comment removed

  • is this in the carribean? cuz i am from there and we have mantis like that and humming birds, mostly seen mantis eatting inspects, but i'd love to see one eating a bird, and their my favorite insect, i had afew of them, big greens and little deadleaf mantis "little brown ones" but now i am sticking to chameleons :P most awesome animal, but mantis is second :D

  • THE TRUTH:

the hummingbird is hovering flowers from flowers one day trying to feed on nectar. then suddenly it got a heart attack and died. the mantis was nearby and saw everything; that's how the mantis got a free meal, as you can see here! :)

  • @Az0ngl33 u can be right, but i think ur wrong, mantis in the wild only eat alive animals, though i tamed one, and i fryed chicken, and striped off alittle piece to feed to my pregnant female one, and she ate the chicken, also i put vitimins on it, and calcium so she would be healthy, she was wild, but now tame,

  • @HitHans

hey, u never know man. i believe that the mantis did not attack this bird, regardless of what the owner of this clip said. i believe it died from other causes. if you can't tell that then you're just lamed! haha xb

  • no wonder birds are extinct. mantis ate them all:(

  • @Duffman8815 ....um birds haven't gone extinct.

  • @XxRebeLLyeLLxX I know, i was being cute but i failed:( nice video though:)

  • Birdy got drilled.

  • Bear Grylls would eat both of this

  • mantis are cool, going to catch one as a pet

  • I swear I will stomp every mantis I see from now on -_-

  • @CallMeNat100 Yes, stomp on one of the biggest predators of pests in the insect world because one ate a bird. Good idea.

  • @Pepitobenito Hummingbirds are my favorite birds. Of course i was not serious, but thanks, i think it is an Exquisite idea. bye.

  • @CallMeNat100 Oops. Bit of antifreeze slipped into the ol' hummingbird feeder. Butterfingers.

  • Это просто совершенная машина для убийства! Он познал суть гармонии и полностью разуплотнился! В недавнем прошлом я подселил к себе подобного, и "Зал поющих кариатид" обрел для меня иной смысл...))

  • I just saw a mantis in my backyard and was like. "That's one bad ass motherfucker!" I'm gonna youtube it!

  • 0:11 -- Look at the thickness of that mantis' abdomen! I think he's eaten one hummingbird already!

  • pray mantis, the only motherfucker who knows how to mess up the food chain!

  • Howwwww?????????? id asume most mammals can kill a bug

  • @GreasyRockabilly hey bro it is a BIRD!!!! NOT A mammal

  • how?!!!??

  • How the fuck did it catch a hummingbird lolol

  • Why do they call ir praying mantis if its prey are the ones who needs praying...?

  • @brecrady777 it*

  • Wow that was so suspenseful, at first i thought the mantis was going to kill the bird but the bird obviously killed the mantis

  • O.O I think too much!

  • Now that's just... Omg no comment for that.. You think they can eat humans... And take over the human race

  • so i get the mantis can grab the bird. it can eat the bird. but how doe it actually kill the damn thing?

  • @Chazerbaijann , the same way it eats it, bite & chew till it drops.

  • A mantis can own a humming bird but not a Japanese hornet?

  • mantis are not to be fucked with

  • i like mantis but if i caught one with a hummingbird it wouldn't catch another one.

  • i need to own a mantis so they could my house centipedes :D

  • You've got to be fucking kidding me.

  • @wjfox2006 What? Don't think a bug can pull that off? they're perfectly capable, man...Don't understimate the power of the bugs, man! XD

  • I love hummingbirds but its best that you left it alone. Chances are the bird would not have survived after the mantis struck it. I scared a hawk that was in my yard from a mourning dove. The hawk was eating it alive and the dove ended up dying 2 days later from injuries.

  • It's official.. I've seen everything, and I mean EVERYTHING now.

  • i think his eyes were bigger than his stomach

  • that shit is crazy lol

  • Haha I let my praying mantis run around in my backyard and I got scared. Then my chicken launched at it and ate it

  • praying mantis is the chuck norris of insects

  • praying mantis is the chuck norris of insects

  • mantis might eat yoou up

  • @MikeDaFerret Believe it or not, the mantis killed the hummingbird. They strike & grab with their sharp arms & hold on tightly as they feast on the live animal. I have seen other videos of them attacking & eating mice, snakes, hummingbirds, frogs, etc.

Last year one in my backyard attacked me & grabbed my finger with it's sharp little arms & I couldn't let go right away. It was clingy & sharp! I found one today that bit my pinky, yes it hurt. They're everywhere, & they're territorial!

  • @Alina674 where are you from?

  • @xpectz I'm in California. sorry, for the 1 month late response.

  • Holy shit its great to be big!

  • ..Holy Shiat O.O

  • Don't mess with nature's Kung Fu master.

    八步螳螂弟子拜見祖師爺!

  • An insect eating a bird. Now thats some shit you NEVER see. LOL

  • Mother fucker !!!

    I hate Mantis !!!

    ¬¬´

  • damn u humming bird drinking my hummingbird feed! mantis attack!

  • That bird is pathetic and deserved to die.

  • Thumbs up if you ever owned a mantis. I had two. One was named Pogo and one Monty. Ate flies and grasshopers mostly :D

  • ITS CHUCK NORRIS PET MANTIS!!!

  • @ilovemiamiheat6 shutup with the chuck norris, justin bieber, DAMN NATURE YOU SCARY, serious we are sik off it, im sure im not the only one who thinks that!!!

  • Where do you find such large mantids, the only ones I find are small.

  • that wasnt a vs...lol he ate it

  • Hahaha stupid bird.

  • @MikeDaFerret Insects are far stronger relative to their size than "higher" life forms. An ant can carry over 100X it's weight, so an insect the size of a bird, reptile or mammal can usually overpower it. Good thing they don't get *really* big.....

  • The mantis is one bad-ass bug! Too bad the Japanese never made a movie about a giant Godzilla-sized one!

  • @Snoep76239 Actually there are Giant Praying Mantises in Godzilla, Kamakiras,EXCEPT they aren't as badass as the real Mantises! They should consider making a far stronger Mantis monster in the future!

  • @Snoep76239 Watch ''The deadly mantis'' (1957) i know its black and white, but its about giant mantis destroying everything...

  • after a while i bet the bird is gonna get alittle heavy lol

  • If they are still in place, there are laws against killing a Praying Mantis. In 1972 it was a $50.00 fine.

  • @Reneelwaring Yeah, but the praying mantis pays the fine in cicada heads!

  • im still waiting for "Mantis vs Human."

  • @GT5Enthusiast You mean "mantis vs shoe"?

  • @GT5Enthusiast You mean Cat-sized Mantis vs Human.

  • @GT5Enthusiast check out a 1950's scifi film called "The Deadly Mantis"

  • @GT5Enthusiast There's a video of someone having a mantis chew on his finger... For like 2 minutes, and then the mantis getis like into his finger and starts to hurt him and he can barely pry the mantis off his thumb. Funny stuff.

  • @LacrymosaMay1 Like...like...it's sad when people start typing the way they talk, adding the word 'like" in between every other word. It's a speech impediment, don't you think?

  • @LacrymosaMay1 Lol, yea i seen that. made me laugh.

  • @GT5Enthusiast They made a horror movie about that in the '50's.

  • @GT5Enthusiast Fallout: New Vegas =P

  • @TeslaRifle Ha i've been replaying that game and was thinking the same thing!

  • Wtf you think this is boy the SciFi network?

  • Wow. I suddenly feel less remorse for the injured mantis I saw crawling around in circles earlier today. I flung it ironically to some birds as food.

Gotta keep that circle of life churnin Loll

  • Thumbs up if want a mantis now

  • @PacManZ5Z I have a mantis!!! :D Ha-HA!

  • @SinishaTheScoper damn I still dont have one you lucky person >:(

  • @PacManZ5Z i want 2!

  • @PacManZ5Z i had one it was scary as fu*k it killed one of my small lizards this one time when it escaped i ended up gassing it with bugspray there evil

  • @SPORE11165 lol you can get a huge fine for killing one, cuz they're endangered

  • @tokenking420 it was an imported one it wasnt this type but it was huge

  • @SPORE11165 imported? so you bought it? they run all over the place where i live. its like my house is a sanctuary for them

  • @PacManZ5Z They are beast pets, as far as bugs go. I bred them for a little while. I had 40 baby mantises, too bad they ate each other lol

  • @PacManZ5Z i coaught one yester day

  • thats nothin my almost 2 year old Snoodle (Lillie) chased down a praying mantis and I believe this was an occassion where thats all she wrote we were watching tv when all the sudden Lillie had something in her paws so we turned the light on and know one knew what it was but myself my two teenage daughters were terrified but not until they found out the appetite thes creaturs have

  • Damn, where does the bug put all that food? Must be bulimic

  • D': omg i love hummingbirds this is so sad.

  • and god did grin, and the people did feast upon the beetle, and the mouse, and the apricot, and the breakfast cereal, and the humming bird...

  • @speeddemon847 capital G there though

  • Comment removed

  • wow!!

  • This isn't Praying Mantis vs Hummingbird, it is "look i found a praying mantis eating a hummingbird!"

  • Thats one slow hummingbird!

  • D':

  • Chinese mantis (Tenodera sinensis), introduced into the US in the 19th Century for pest control.

  • really made a big kill
