If one drives like a normal person, it will never engage. It's designed to evaluate the driver state, Active or Passive. To do so, collects data from SWM(Steering Wheel Module)ABS, CVM(Closing Velocity Module) and other nodes. If the collision is eminent (<700ms) and the driver is deemed passive, only then, the vehicle will apply 50% of brake capacity and if @ <10 MPH and road conditions r good it will possibly stop before contact. Above that up to 19 Mph it will minimize the impact forces.

I just bought one of these for my wife over the weekend with personal companion option, navigation/Dynaudio stero upgrade and some comfort package that gives you the power liftgate, homelink, and some other stuff I cant recall. Let me tell you this is one sweet vehicle, blows away the Q5 and Benz GLK. City safe is cool but the T6 engine and AWD make the car. I am totally impressed, gobs of torque (300 lb ft) and the ride is very sporty. Well done Volvo. We dont miss the RX 350 at all.

im sure it does, im not sure about really small things but a deer, im sure, it seems to me it uses something like echolation waves bouncing back saying how far away it is and things, so a large object like a wall or deer it would prolly stop, what if someone was driving toward u, could u get off of the road with out it causing u to slam you brakes and prolly get killed?

It only works from 0-19mph anything over that it doesnt work. They calculated that more accidents occur from fender benders and low speed crashes while in the city.

They way cars are going I think is terrible. They are making them to solve peoples bad driving, it doesn't fix it though. They'll start to depend on it and when it fails they wont know what to do. Just wait till government obdIII systems come out were you computer will be accessed wirelessly. Did I mention fly by wire? Things that could go wrong with this are almost limitless.
