ballroom samba traces its origins to maxixe when it was brought to europe about 100 years ago; maxixe also influenced samba de gafieira; i dont know why the new dances both were labeled as samba, but i am able to see similarities in some basic moves of ballroom samba and gafieira (you dont see many basics in this video though)

Gente, eu faço parte de uma companhia de dança e dou aulas de dança de salão no Brasil, e por sinal ... a minha especialidade é samba de gafieira.... e posso GARANTIR, isso não é samba MESMO. O que mais me deixa indignada é que existem pessoas que acreditam que isso seja um estilo alternativo de samba....

@LACavassim perdão porque a minha linguagem é muito ruim, mas isso é samba, um nativo de um país não faz de você um dançarino sobre se eu sou argentino, mas eu respeito aqueles que fazem outras versões do tango, samba estilo internacional que não se destina a imitar tradicionalmente, só tem algumas coisas, e posso garantir isso no brasil q não se aprende, por isso q para criticar você deve primeiro saber o estilo

They are both so fantastic - especially Slavik, but I just wish he would pay more attention to her.  He scarcely even looks at her. I wonder if that's considered good or bad to the judges, to constantly be looking at judges (or audience?) instead of partner?

International samba includes modified steps of traditional samba, the styke they are dancing soesn`t have that steps, they are dancing a mixture of rumba-salsa even cha-cha-cha. But they have lost the samba style like most people who goes to international samba dancning contests.

They are Awesome!!! And to reply to your comment on Samba, it's international Samba. Not traditional Samba. Like Cha Cha. It's not the same for Club and International. I dance @ the clubs all the time. International it's more complex and strict. But I like both.

The tradicional samba is the "samba de gafieira", Brazilian ballroom samba. Look for it. It's very very difficult.

Well, I'm Brazilian, so I must say: the music is similar to our samba, but it isn't!!! And the Dance, God, REALLY is not samba!! The coreography is similar to some caribbean rythms. Why don't you watch the real Brazilian Samba? Look for "SAMBA DE GAFIEIRA", the you'll see what samba is.

At my small (sic) box, I see what the wolrd is doing and I tell you that there are better works about samba than this one.

They dance very well, true. This is the "international" samba, true. There are better versions of samba, true as well. Take a look about gafieira and watch the video "na mangueira", by zuco 103, to see what people are doing internationally about samba.
