  • Big Red knows you placed him #2 and also you didn't even place his grand-daughter Rags :)

  • Overall, if you look up times and stride angles, you will notice Secretariat is better. His angle is 110 degrees at a full gallop and he has always beaten Man O' War, even just by seconds. Put them together in a race, and there is NO DOUBT Secretariat will win.

  • #1 is right.Man O War was fastest and also had to carry alot more weight than any other horse. He was related to the Godolphin Arabian, who gave this line of horses alot of speed & endurance. Man O War's descendants were War Admiral, Gallant Fox, Omaha, and lastly Affirmed, who all won the Triple Crown. Affirmed's trainer said,"Affirmed is greater than Secretariat or any Triple Crown winner, because only Affirmed had to face Alydar. Where does this leave Secretariat? Behind Affirmed & Man O War.

  • @19emeraldeyes INCORRECT. For one, just about every thoroughbred alive on this planet RIGHT NOW is related to an arabian. DESCENDANTS do not make a good horse! If you'd care to make sure your correct, you'd learn that NOT ONLY does Secretariat have a longer stride angle but he also has run faster than Man O' War in EVERYTHING, by at least 4 seconds. Affirmed? Clearly he is not all that great, otherwise everyone would be supporting him. Affirmed is a bench warmer when it comes to Secretariat.

  • @19emeraldeyes Not to mention, don't all trainers have pride in their horses? Of course Affirmed's traier would say such a thing, but that means nothing. I say my horses are the fastest all the time, but do they stand a chance against Secretariat? Hell no.

  • Sorry, reverse 1 and 2 and it is accurate. Secretariat is the only #1 of any sport bar none..

  • Pretty good list. My "list" would be figured on time/distance statistics, quality of opponents and only after that, number of wins. Stirring stories of overcoming adversity to rise (again) make good movies. First, does the horse have the ultimate speed for a given distance? Second, who has the horse been racing against? My hot rod can blow "tuner" cars off like they were taxis. But if I take it to the strip against a race-only fast car, I would be beaten by most.

  • I agreed with the video up to Secretariat and Man O' War. They are reversed. There is no way that Man O' War could beat Secretariat. The times aren't there to support it. The only reason Secretariat lost two races were poor jockey (first race) and the absess in his mouth(2nd time).

  • @wizpopr

in 60 years, you don't think the track conditions had something to do with his times being faster?

  • Secretariat beat Man O´War! No horse will be as great as the Big Red

  • man o war should always be first on anyone's list.

  • 1 secreatariat 2 ruffian 3 barbaro 4 seabicut 5 8 belles 6 pharlap 7 zenyatta 8 man o war 9 10
  • wheres barbaro??

  • @myclaudia1998 With all due respect to Barbaro but what did he do in his very short career to justify being one of the top 10 horses of all time?

  • Horse racing is unique because it can exist on more than one level.Bettors can appreciate the superstar horses while confining their wagering to lesser animals. You can't do that with other sports.

  • I am not a racing expert nor a historian of the sport. I am simply a fan who is ignorant on many of the horses. But I think Sham would be considered the greatest horse if it were not for Secretariat. Secretariat would have ran even faster at the Belmont had he not such a big lead. I broke records in the three big races. What more do you want? I like putting Seabiscuit ahead of War Admiral because he won the match-race.

  • @pcharliew

Sham wasn't a great horse prior to the triple crown. Running 2nd to secretariat made him better than he was. Secretariat didn't fire in the Wood Memorial and Sham still didn't win. And the only reason he won the SA derby was because his stablemate impededed the heavy odds on favorite, which is now illegal and known as team riding. If sham was that great why was another horse the heavy odds on favorite in the SA derby?

  • Bueno.

  • no dr.fager. well i guess it is a free country but u gotta be kidden me

  • BIG RED!!!!!!

  • Nice videooo

  • Said Joe Hall: "Native Dancer may have been the greatest horse of all time. He'd have given any horse in history a race and probably have beaten them all -Man o' War, Secretariat, and the rest- just as long as no one actually told him to do it, just as long as they'd let him do it his way."

  • Many people considered Native Dancer to be the greatest horse in American racing history, rivaling even the superiority of the legendary Man o' War, later pointing out that even Secretariat didn't match the enormous length of Man o' War's stride, but Native Dancer had equaled the twenty-eight foot span.

  • Phar Lap is the greatest with Man O War second.

  • Phar lap <3

  • Hoodwink was a barn stable pony. I can name 7 old time track horseman who has seen both. Everyone said Secretariat the best. Ever person Eddie Arcaro (not a johnnycomelately) talked to that has seen both said Secretariat the best. Not one that has seen both said Man 0' War the best. BTW Eddie said Secretariat the best he ever seen and saw them all since Phar Lap. How about that? Also Bowen said in his Man 0' War book that chart calling for MOW was not a perfect science.

  • Secretariat had two strides according to Dr. Emanuel. His short stride was measured. Man 0' War was not measured but only was EST. at 29. Its a total myth like the rest of the propaganda the johnnycomelatelys post. fix in the Sanford only a rumor no facts. Ed Bowen said he was turned sideways at the strat. Only 4 lenghts back of Upset, At the 1/4 mark 2 lengths back & 2 back at the half. One back on the rail. Moved to the outside & did not have the speed or ass to catch slow poke Upset.

  • Somax Performance Institute: It is plain to see that Secretariat had the biggest stride angle of any thoroughbred, which is why he has such a legendary position in horse racing. He was able to cover more ground than his opponents, which led to his stunning victories and phenomenal speed.

    Secretariat Stride Angle 110

    Barbaro 105

    Affirmed 93

    Forego 90

    Man 0' War 88

    Seattle Slew 83

They have a email and a toll free number. How about calling them. Will answer any questions you may have.

  • I think secretariat is the best I mean he set records in all of the triple crown races two of which still stand and his time in the Belmont and his margin of victory hasn't been approached plus man o war only beat one older horse whilst secretariat beat lots like in the Canadian international and every time after secretariat lost he set a new track record I think secretariat is the best but that is my personal opinion

  • @HorsesForeverRun DRF clocking of Secretariat in the Preakness was 1:53 2/5. The frame by frame films of the two races between Canonero ll and Secretariat clearly proves he beat him to the finish line by 3 lengths. Far as I am concerned he still holds all 3 tripe crown records. Its only been tied twice but not beaten.

  • @rscarbro100 i know what i meant was that he still holds two records on his own so he doesn't share them which anyone i didn't mean he doesn't hold all 3 of them

  • @HorsesForeverRun Well said my good man. I was not sure you knew he really ran it in 1:53 2/5 not the one they settled on since the timer malfunction.

  • So...you realize that you used a picture of Man o' War for Seabiscuit, right? Kudos for choosing the REAL Big Red as your #1.

  • what about zilzal? i own one of his offspring called Forrest Gump <3

  • Ruffian doesn't qualify at that spot she hasn't earned it and we will never know. Man o war of course was first he had to carry so much more and ran with metal shoes and had less technology and was eased so he was just that good

  • Zenyatta?

  • How was Man O' War better than Secretariat?

  • @CrazyChic990 Man o' War won 20 of 21 starts. He won over any surface, was never fully extended, won a race at 1 5/8 miles by 100 lengths, scared off all of his competition, and defeated a Triple Crown winner. Secretariat couldn't run in the mud, lost races starting with W, won 16 of 21 starts, and is only remembered for his Belmont, which was 1/8 mile longer than Man o' War's Belmont. Not to mention that Man o' War carried INSANE weights as a juvenile, while the wannabe wasn't worthy.

  • phar lap better than all of them yank horses

  • Also how can a top ten of all time not include the horse which many feel is the most important stud in the 20th century that being Northern Dancer

  • Secretariat had a longer stride than man of war, Man of War was 88% in his stride while Secretariat had a stride that was 110%. He was a faster horse sorry but Secretariat has to be the greatest horse of all time. Triple Crown winner setting records in all 3 triple crown races and to this date up the the 2011 running of the Belmont his record time or margin of victory has been approached.

  • @Jawbone101 Actually, Secretariate's stride was 24 feet, while Man o' War's was 28 feet - IN A CHOKE HOLD. Secretariat's race record is also inferior to Man o' War's. Both started 21 times. Man o' War won 20 (his only loss the result of fixing) and Secretariat only won 16 because he couldn't run in the mud or win a race starting with W. Man o' War is the best. Get off your high horse.

  • Secretariat beat all of Man of Wars times, so why is he number 2.

  • No mention of Dr. Fager? He was voted greatest thoroughbred of the century by none other than the Thoroughbred Times...a fairly reputable source. Seabiscuit had no business being on the list. Of course, if the list was being made today, there would have to room for Zenyatta.

  • For me Ruffian was number one...

  • so u cant really compare the two just by looking at their track record.

  • He raced on tracks far inferior to the fast surfaces of today.

He so dominated his competition, he was handicapped regularly with weights of 130 pounds as a two-year-old and 138 pounds as a three-year-old. This meant giving up over 30 pounds to his rivals...an incredible disadvantage by modern standards!

  • @blacksheepwall91 Totally Agree!! I did a Essay on him my Sr year! Not to mention what he did for the Sport!!!!!!!

  • by shoes i mean iron and aluminum also man o war also produced horses with the most stake winnings like seabiscuit and triple crown winner war admiral. secretariat offspring lady secret has won 2 eclipse award.

  • man o war raced on slower tracks and had slower shoes technology wise and also he carried more weight in races like a 138 lb jockey at that time and also it is said that man o war stride is longer than secretariat. both great horses but there is a reason why man o war is the #1 horse its a fact just google 100 top horses of the 20 century.

  • Ruffian ^^

  • uhhhhhhhhhh the best racehorse that ever lived was secretariat!!

  • @americancarsamerican No! Man o' War is! If you need me to explain why just ask and you'll see that Man o' War faster, has more winnings, and has won by more lengths, and is just awesomer.

  • @americancarsamerican Nope. By race record, performances, and winnings, Man o' War was much the best. Man o' War's only loss was in a fixed race, and he could run on any surface and still win. In fact, he was never truly allowed to run, even in the Lawrence Realization, which, at 1 5/8 miles (a furlong longer than the modern Belmont Stakes!), he won by 100 lengths. His Belmont was also 1 3/8 miles, so had he run the modern distance, he surely would have won by 40 lengths or better.

  • @americancarsamerican it was a horse named dr fager that would have alot to say about that. in truth idk if big red would have had a snowball chance in hell off beating him up to 10 furlongs

  • @reddmudd777 Lets see if Secretariat would have a snowball chance in hell beating then Dr. First of all the Fager never ran a 1 1/4 in 1:59 2/5. Big Red a 1:59 in the Belmont & that it wasn't from the chute. And did you know he 'Pulled Up another furlong in the Marlboro Cup for the 1 1/4 in 1:57 4/5. The DRF clockers caught him in that time. Source the American Racing Manual 1974. He went thorugh the 1 mile in 1:33 flat taking the long route in that race. Not in top form as well.

  • @rscarbro100 You are obviously a passionate expert! I just admire all of these magnificent creatures and the riders who took them to Glory!

  • @ruthdahlia I admire all the great horses. Secretariat is not the only one. I will make that clear. But no horse ever before or since did what he done during his 3 yr. old campaign young or old that still holds true to this day. Thats the Derby & Belmont. Yet no horse ever surpassed his Preakness. Some say 'Times' means nothing. If so thats leaves out MOW, Dr. Fager, Secretariat & The Bid as well. They all set bench marks with Secretariat Belmont as the yardstick for all others.

  • @reddmudd777 Further more those fractions in the Marlboro Cup would have cooked Fager like in them races he lost from the rabbit theory. Dr. Fager jockey said he was one of his favorites he rode. He said Buckpasser was the best he ever rode. He called Secretariat a Super, Super horse after trying to find his rear-end in the Belmont riding Twice a Prince.

  • Well you did tell us that this list was according to you. And everybody is entitled to their opinion.

  • Need to switch the top 2 & you would be right on.

  • first....why is there a picture of MOW randomly thrown in between Seabiscuit and Ruffian? 2nd thank you for recognizing the talent of the great Dancer. Third, my list of 10 doesn't include the Admiral, Seabiscuit or Secretariat lol.

  • @denabluechicken Sec not in the top 10. Too funny. Would love to see that justified with facts as opposed to rhetoric.

  • Thumbs up if you where waiting for Secretariat as #1 and got dissapointed.

  • typical yanks think there the best at everything, phar lap was better than all of those

  • @acefrehley777 Secrateriat is not the fastest horse ever. Man o' War is.

  • @Slew103 What do you call someone that will not accept the words of Eddie Arcaro when he told Bill Christine that he rated Secretariat the best of all time and would not believe him unless Eddie told him the very same thing in heaven? Right, Its very obivous that man is extremely 'BIAS, 'Jealous' and has a 'EGO problem so bad that it unimaginable. That person his 'YOU' is it not? I also strongly believe you & BigCy are one and the same person. Right? I got your number.(smile)

  • @Slew103

also proved to you what Arcaro said and its there for everyone to read. If that belmont track was a 13 variant Secretariat time would have been 2:25 3/5 1 sec. better than Gallant man. Steve Crist said it was running 4/5 slower that day and that was the figure ,09 for the 139 speed figure. Forego raced the prior race and the track was .10. Give Steve Crist a call my friend. Did you know MOW variant was .00 for the Lawerence and .02 variant for the JCC?

  • @Slew103 If you got proof you will be back with it but I doubt you will be back because you have nothing. I will give you all the respect that is due you my friend. And if you cannot accept the old time track horseman statements and knowledge then you need not debate. That will show who is the true jealous and bias man is,

  • @Slew103 The ones that have a 'EGO' problem are the ones that gives false facts and do not want to know or does not know the facts. Seattle Slew was listed .10 for the Preakness. He ran a 1:54 2/5. Secretariat variant was 13 and he ran 1 full second faster than Slew. Those variants has to do more with the class of horses than anything else. A variant is suggesting a track is running that fast but not proven. Information from the Daily Racing forum. Please show me something with proof.

  • Comment removed

  • @Slew103 Its the other way round. You never showed no facts at all my friend and thats the gospel truth. I am not bias to no horse or person. Anyone that knows me I am not that kind of person. The best comes to the top no matter iof you like them or not. Your .05 variant which was listed on the chart was in error and thats a fact. Another fact is each variant is 1/5 of a second. Another fact they do not go down on the field like you said and measure the depth of the track. How silly.

  • All I know is that I've never seen a horse in my lifetime, 60 years, that could have beaten Secretariat at the Belmont. Those were good horses, especially Sham who would have set records in the Derby and Preakness if not for Secretariat, that he was still widening on as he crossed the finish line. Name one other race where they had to move the finish line camera in order to see the second place horse!

  • Eddie Arcaro also said everyone and I mean everyone of all the old time track horseman that seen Man 0' War and Secretariat said Secretariat the better. Thats hard to swallow for the die=hard Man 0' war and Citation lovers to accept. Aracro also told Chic Lang that Kelso was better than Citation. He didn't want Chic to tell anyone because he knew Jimmy Jones would get mad with him. Its all in the Chic Lang book. I guess many are mad with Eddie now but I got many hankies to hand out.(smile)

  • Eddie Arcaro #1 Hoss of all time= Secretariat. Charles Hatton= Secretariat. Holly Hudges= Secretariat, George Cassidy=Secretariat. Gene Schwartz= Secretariat. Mike Casle= Secretariat. Laffit Pincay= Secretariat. Rose Hamburger=Secretariat. Angel Cordero Jr.=Secretariat and rscarbro100=Secretariat and many, many more. Secretariat #1 and the rest up for grabs.

  • there is no statistical eeidence to choose anyone but Secretariat as numbe one. Track records that still stand on every track. It's actually a simple call. Argue about 2-10, but number one is not debatable.

  • @mmaderia sorry, make that "evidence."

  • @mmaderia Charles Hatton a 45 yr. veteran of the Daily Racing forum wrote in the American Racing Manual in 1974 that the great Secretariat ran past the 1 1/4 pole 'Pulling Up' in 1:57 4/5 in the Marlboro Cup race where he set a World Record for the 1 1/8 mile. Only Spectacular Bid did that but was a 4 yr. old running his from the chute & was driven out at a fast Santa Anita race track. Can anyone ever imagine any other horse doing that or his 2:24 Belmont both races with 'Ease'.

  • Here's my list: 1. Secretariat 2. Ruffian 3. Man O' War 4. Zenyatta 5. Rags to Riches 6. Seabiscuit 7. Barbaro 8. Citation 9. Rachel Alexandra 10. Seattleslew
  • @Slew103 no, she was pulling away from FP when she fell, she would have won. Get your facts straight.

  • 1) Secretariat 2) Dr. Fager 3) Man O' War 4) Citation 5) Damascus 6) Count Fleet 7) Affirmed 8) Native Dancer 9) Spectacular Bid 10) Seattle Slew

  • @Slew103 you havent mentioned any australiasian horses, kingston town was the best ive seen, manikato, the best sprinter, till the caviar, and sunline,a close 2 nd to the king, then of course we havent mentioned the diva.

  • @Slew103 you havent mentioned any australasian horses, kingston town the best ive seen,1200-3200 mtrs, manikato was the best sprinter till black caviar, the best mare sunline, and that forgetting the mighty diva,3 melb cups, frankel is the best miler ive seen, all opinion, cheers nick in oz

  • Great list, I can agree with all of them. If it was a top twenty I would have added Citation, Forego, Spectacular Bid, Round Table, Bold Ruler, Dr. Fager, John Henry, Affirmed, Damascus, and a sentimental choice, one of my all time favorite fillies, Go For Wand. (though All Along was a great filly as well). Okay there are too many to choose from =)

  • The longer the race the more likely Secretariat would beat any of these horses, including Man o' War. Secretariat never got tired.

  • You've heard about KINCSEM? (Kisbér, 1874. március 17. – Tápiószentmárton, 1887. március 17.) RECORD:59: 59-0-0!!!

  • 1. Secretarit 2. Ruffian 3. Zenyatta 4. Rachel Alexander 5. Smarty Jones 6. Barbaro 7. Seattle Slew 8. Affirmed 9. War Admiral 10. Native Dancer

  • All I know is Jacinto Vasquez was the rider of BOTH Foolish Pleasure and Ruffian. He had to make a choice,he chose the filly. Ruffian is in no way overrated. SMILE!

  • to me secretariat will always be my number 1 no other horse to me is as good as secretariat and Zenyatta and Barbaro and Man o' war are all tied for second place. and well this is my opinion

  • Barbaro will always be my number 1.

  • Where is Citation?!?!? He was a BEAST!!! What kind of freak runs 20 races in a year, wins 19 of them, runs a race in between the Preakness and Belmont, hurts himself running over a race track that was more cement then dirt, then comes back? Lol. Big Cy was awesome!

  • I think Secretariat is number 1 don't know why you didn't put him there but ok

  • ARE YOU SIRIOUS SECRATARIAT THEN MAN O WHATEVER DID YOU SEE HOW SEC RAN YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOUR TAKING ABOUT!

  • @chloendra amen ....Secretariat should be first then ruffian then man o war

  • @Slew103 sut ur fucking face ruffian aint overated ur overated u jerk

  • weres farlap

  • Sorry but for Seabiscut u put man ow at for him!!!!! I am sorry but also seabiscut wasn't that great the only reason people know him is because he beat war admiral, but war admiral I think was just done already e won the Preakness and the kentucky derby and the Belmont!! Seabiscut was new. I think u know our horses very well but try harder next time

  • great video and great choice of horses well done from down under mate :)

  • I think Secretariat is the best but thats just me

  • secretarit was the fastest!

  • seabiscuit isnt in the top 100

  • 1. Secretariat 2. Man O' War 3. Dr. Fager 4. Spectacular Bid 5. Citation 6. Kelso

    7. Native Dancer 8. Forego 9. Affirmed 10. Seattle Slew 11. War Admiral

  • Sorry, but no Forego or Spectacular Bid? Kelso too low,Ruffian doesn't make my list. Can't put Seabiscut on my list either, raced 89 times and won 33,a lot of horses beat him.Man o War,Secretariat, citation,Native Dancer,Kelso,Forego,Seattle Slew,Spectacular Bid,Dr. Fager,Affirmed make my list

  • Ruffians the only filly on there go RUFFIAN!!! you kick butt!!!! ruffian is the greatest filly of all time im sorry zenyatta fans.....

  • @Ruffian117 Ruffian and Zenyatta tie i think

  • Since ibleedgreen01 put the video ask opinions on America's greatest racehorses that leaves out PharLap(NZ) BlackCaviar(Aus) and Ribot(Italy) -undoubtedly all great. But playing the game my picks are Secretariat,Man O' War, SeaBiscuit,Citation, BoldRuler, WarAdmiral, NativeDancer, Kelso, Affirmed, RivaRidge - because they are world famous (I live in NZ) and the greatest of the great racehorses - inspiring in the passion they arouse in their sheer power, grace, beauty and achievements.

  • I would put Eclipse as the best horse of all time. He was the most successful sire also. Note that ALL of the horses featured have Eclipse's blood in them.

The American Thoroughbred horse-racing awards named after Eclipse. He is remembered for the saying "Eclipse first, the rest nowhere". Of course the horses shown in this video are superstars. Favorites for me a Dr. Fager, who I actually saw racing and Colin. As far as looks are concerned, Secretariat is a masterpiece. Wow!

  • When I saw this stupid video I quickly realized it came from an American user. The ignorance and arrogance U.S. is famous. If a horse or jockey wins in the U.S.A is automatically become the best in the world, as if outside of your country there was an expanse of lifeless desert :) . Out your Truman Show ,in the real world everyone knows : the best trotter ever is the italian VARENNE the best horse galloping is the Italian RIBOT the best jockey ever is the italian FRANKIE DETTORI !

  • @MrItaliano1900 Best trotter is Dan Patch, maybe Niatross. Best jockey: Willie Shoemaker without a doubt. Best driver: Stanley Dancer.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger who? hahaha you go on wikipedia and type in your fucking English "Varenne", "Ribot", "Frankie Dettori". I understand that you are totally ignorant as American living in a glass case. Look at the results, and not give the numbers of bingo.hahah're funny. Varenne, in addition to being horse of the year in Italy, France , was also horse of years 2001 in the USA . Varenne entered in your museum hall of fame of the trot, like the best ever (this is not written on wikipedia).

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger I would like to remind you the most important races of the world are in Paris: Grand Prix d'Amerique trotting. Gallop L'Arc De Triomph, the most difficult and prestigiouse races .All people out the USA to know that we Italians are the best in the construction of cars, motorcycles, boats. The numbers 1 in fashion, food, horse racing and 1000 other things. You Americans are only the best oil thieves and the best to create to economic crises. Please shut up cowboy !

  • @MrItaliano1900 I agree that Ribot was a great one. As for the Arc, it is a big race, but overrated, although the horse that one this year, Danedream is a great one - she also smashed the record and won by 5 lengths. Don't even mention Frankie Dettori in the same breath as Willie Shoemaker. Lester Piggot is far superior to Dettori, and he is not up to Shoemaker's standard. Varenne is a good one, but Dan Patch was a legend. He was a household name, not just for trotting fans.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrItaliano1900 I read that. Dan who? I hope you looked him up and then removed your comment. We can all learn things.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger Please you can not change the reality of the facts only for nationalistic pride. If you read on wikipedia or any website you can evaluate the results. You Americans can not compare horses that won only in the U.S. to Italian legend who won all the most important races of the world. In the world of horseracing we Italians are the best. You can not compare Dan Patch, against Varanne (the best trotter of all time), do you understand that it is ridiculous? please stop it

  • @MrItaliano1900 Um. How do you figure I have "nationalistic pride"? I am from New Zealand, I always think of the US as having an Italian soul. I mean their national icons are Joe DiMaggio, Rocky Marziano, Frank Sinatra and Madonna. I am worldly enough to know that the great harness horses, like Greyhound, Albatross, Dan Patch are from the States. As for NZ, we had Phar Lap and Cardigan Bay. Cardigan Bay had a much better record in the States than Varanne, and won more races too.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger Cardigan who??!! my God ! stop it !! Do not talk to me, just read wikipedia,, your behavior is unacceptable. You can not do this bad information, people may believe the crap you write. I really want to report you to the police. You should be closed in imprisonment.

  • @MrItaliano1900 You keep saying who? to every horse I mention. I have read Wikipedia. I can assure you that Cardigan Bay has a much bigger article on Wikipedia than does Varenne. Just because your knowledge doesn't extend through history... We know about harness racing in New Zealand. We also know that the US has most of the best animals - gallopers also.

Try and learn something for once. You can always ring the police also, as you suggest. They might be able to calm you down. :)

  • @MrItaliano1900 By the way, Germany has a great horse called Danedream that just won the Arc, and is the best ever, having smashed the race record. You should go to Germany sometime and they can tell you about great horses. Italy does not have a good record in the Arc.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger You say a bunch of crap, from now I will not respond.

  • @MrItaliano1900 Up to you. Free world. You could learn something. Remember that Italy does not have a good record. My second cousin was a leader of Operation Husky, which you should read about sometime.

  • I would have these horses (not in order)

Phar Lap, Ruffian, Barbaro, Secretariat, Man O' War, Black Caviar, Makybe Diva, Sea Biscuit, Rachel Alexandra, Cigar.

    My top 10 =P

  • Glad you had Count Fleet in there! Man o' War is always number 1 with me!

  • its no argument what big red did in the triple crown series alone made him #1 most of you judging this my win lost records ,but look at what they actually did and man of war did not even win the triple crown

  • 1:31 is NOT Sea Biscuit! That's Man O' War! Trust me, I know. Im a huge fan of his and would recognize that picture anywhere. You really need edit this video.

  • I agree that there are a lot of factors in deciding a list of the greatest horses of all time, but in my opinion it has to be Secretariat. He set records that will most likely never be matched. How can you argue that?

  • Ruffian is the best! Secretariat should be behind Ruffian because she was much better than Secretariat!

  • We all have our favorites. It's hard to judge horses from different eras against one another. My Top 10 list or American middle-distance racehorses would be 1. Man o' War 2. Secretariat 3. Kelso 4. Forego 5. Citation 6. Native Dancer 7. Dr. Fager 8. Seattle Slew 9. Spectacular Bid 10. Damascus

How do we judge the brilliance of the greatest sprinters against the steel of our most dominant stayers? Throw the European superstars in there, and it gets even more complicated.

  • The #1 Horse EVER should and will always be SECRETARIAT!!

  • I like Cot Campbell's list better! His top horse is "KELSO!"

  • #1 and #2 will always be argued. Personally I'd put Secretarialt at #1, but that's my opinion, and that's all this list is-- someone's OPINION. I take it for what it is.

  • #1 SECRETARIT, #2 RUFFIAN

  • u forgot ZENYETTA

  • Slew, are you speaking from experience with horses or just a bladdering idiot? Ruffian as with Sea Biscuit had hearts..not in their legs ....and have you all forgotten Phar-lap?

  • What about greats like cigar? He won some pretty big races himself, like the Breeders Cup Classic, Dubai world cup, Jockey club gold cup, hollywood gold cup, woodward.. I am not saying he is above Secretariat, Slew, or Citation but he should be in the top 5-10. I cannot disagree with most of your arguements, you picked the right horses. I will always feel bad about a horse Like Barbaro, or Charismatic, if they never broke down, god only knows how great they could have been.

  • @Slew103 U RIGHT BOUT THAT, BULL LEA IS THE GREATEST SIRE OF ALL TIME NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT. NOT ONLY DID HE SIRE CITATION, BUT ALSO COALTOWN, ARMED, TWO LEA, AND BEWITCH, AND A TON MORE STAKES WINNERS, ACTUALLY AND ALSO A COUPLE MORE HOFers AS WELL, DO U KNOW HOW MANY HOFers, I THINK 6???

  • @Slew103 whose in ur top 10 by the way?

  • @Slew103 Well sadly we'll never know how great she coulda been...like Barbaro

  • @Slew103 Lucien Laurin, Secretariat's trainer said that "As God as my witness, she may even be better than Secretariat." lol what about that!!!!!

  • ruffian never lost a race. she lost it once when at the same time where she lost her life.......remember it

  • slew SHUT UP. shut up when you wrote about ruffian. she was a very great horse. better than many males. and in the race where she breaked down she rans against foolish pleasure. and i think she would beat him when she dont break down. she beat nothing???? you dont know whats going on...second time. she beated every horse who standing in her way. because of this she "must" ran against a male champion (!) to show what she can. how can you say that she beat nothing?how can you talk so a shit?really

  • Secretariat is the greatest racehorse of all time. he still holds five track records. one of them is unoffical.he holds 2 world records. since 1973. this is perfection no horse will ever break his belmont world record. after his career the horses ran to the same track conditions like him but never going to break his records. 36 years later all his records still standing. what more can a horse do to become the greatest of all time? my best list - sec, sham (!), manowar, citation, slew, ruffian

  • @Slew103 okay you have a great point there. i just cant get past the fact that he could be better than Secretariat or Man O' War, or even Slew. Dont get me wrong, he was obviously a GREAT horse, but we talkin' about Man O' War, Secretariat and Slew! Three of the greatest horses of all time, and the most popular. You get where I'm coming from tho, rite lol???

  • @Slew103 okay...what about Slew? 10th triple crown winner, horse of the year in '77, leading sire in north america in '84, AND he sired A.P. Indy!!!

  • @Slew103 OR WHAT ABOUT SECRETARIAT HE CLINCHED THE '73 TRIPLE CROWN WITH A RECORD 31 LENGTHS IN THE BELMONT...C'MON 31!!!!!

  • @Slew103 NOT EVEN MAN-O-WAR...C'MON. AND RUFFIAN WOULD'VE BEATEN FOOLISH PLEASURE...BUT IM SURE U NO WHY THAT DIDNT HAPPEN

  • i cant make a top 10 video cause ill just put all of the race horses at number 1!

  • VERY NICE, I LIKED IT.

  • Thanks :)

  • Very good list! I also like Phar Lap.... but this is a really good list :D

  • yeah, i thought about him, but i decided not to, there r just too many great horses.
