  • a simple drum setup and complicated, technical and totally following how the guitar leads... this band tells me playing metal does not need a big kit, Navene literally showing us what can you do with a simple drum kit. But in individual, i supposed he could be the best technical drummer that i've seen.

  • Could someone explain the rhythm that Navene uses for the snare (I think that's what he's hitting) from 2:01 to 2:13. I can't wrap my head around it! Just seems so irregular...

  • @temporaryonesix Its alot of double bounce grace notes first double bounce is on the snare, then one hit on the bass drum, the double on the bass, and accent hit on the snare just an alternating pattern, its called a rhythmic illusion, the actual pattern isn't to hard its all the shit he throws in between like the grace notes that alternate. Thats why if you don't have limb independence you shouldn't attempt AAL. Think of this drumming like Sped up TOOL and Deathcore together, with double bass.

  • @FastHands1504

Wow, sounds very sophisticated. How long would you say it takes to develop limb independence/whats the easiest way to acheive it?

  • @temporaryonesix It takes as long as you make it take, the first thing you need to do is break your right arm free from your right foot, that's the first step. To do what naviene is doing It could take you anywhere from 4-12 years just depends on how fast you learn and how hard you practice. The best way to achieve it is to SLOW DOWN, slow everything down. just start with a simple beat, and add things in... Like a hi-hat lift on the 3, or the and, of each measure I recommend you take lessons.

  • @FastHands1504

Thanks for your advice bro! I'm really envious of limb independence. Kudos to you if its something that you've developed. I'm not a drummer, but I hope to become one!

  • @FastHands1504

BTW, I can really understand the difficulty of RH/RF independence. CAFO around 1:10 - I try to have my foot match the kick and my hand match the cymbals. Sooo hard man...

  • @temporaryonesix Double bounce your right foot on the second bounce do a crash. just keep repeating it.

  • I dont understand why people are hating on progressive music in general. This is part of the evolution of music. Along with bands ranging fron meshuggah to circa survive. Ofcourse many are reluctant to change.much like the beginning of rock in the fifties, to some it doesnt make sense...at all. But a selected few visionaries see the opportunities and are reaching.out to get a piece of it. I sure as hell know that i myself am trying to peek over the fence to see if if i can catch someinspiration

  • His shorts are the shit. Veil of maya [id] shorts.

  • I bet 60% of viewers on vids like this are Guitarists, such as myself and love to airdrum xD

  • damn i think thats a triple stack!

  • @Justatst123 I tried doing a triple stack on my kit, splash, china, crash, and it sounded like shit! I need to know what he was doing different dammit. It looked really badass though

  • @BurnThePope0514 if you look closley it almosts looks like a four stack??

  • @Justatst123 Ya! everytime he strikes it it looks like there might be another one between what I'm guessing is a splash and crash. Perhaps another splash, regardless it looks beast and sounds pretty damn sexy

  • Is this trigger free?

  • really really indredible foot and and work.......damn he's sick

  • love this guy. everyday on the way to school I jam out and air drum while everyone stares at me like i'm nuts but i dont give a shiiiiiiiit!

    ROCK ON AAL FANS!

  • Moon Gel !!!!!!!!

  • First song "Tempting Time" Second song "On Impulse"

  • Please what is the song at the start of the video

  • Okay, so what type of cymbal is on his far right?

  • @AnBerlinAddict i think you mean the stack cymbal. usually its two cymbals placed on top of each other. but i think he has three or even four on that stack.

  • @partyboysproduction2 Hm.. It sounds really good, I need one. At least the top one.

  • seems like a typical AAL show, entire audience speechless, listening.

  • Loving the Septic Flesh intro.

  • @11nephilim Hey man what is the name if that song i only just got into septicflesh so good.. could you please tell me the name of the song at the intro

  • Is he wearing Veil of Maya [id] pants? Epic win! :D

  • @MelkMan7 I need to get some. >.< They're shorts, btw. :P

  • Multiculturalarity FTW!!

  • fuck yeah. This is so fucking good

  • *guitarist

  • He is a very prolific guitarists.

  • Yes.

  • The intro song???

  • @systemofdrum the vampire of nazareth, by septicflesh

  • the work on the new album is so good. i cant watch him and not be jealous

  • awesome veil of maya (id) shorts he's wearing.

  • Damn right there's no thumbs down to this video!

  • It's a shame that most AAL fans only talk about Tosin, don't get me wrong, he is incredible, but Navene and Javier are also just as incredible musicians and don't get as much credit as they should IMO.

  • @INtZshakenbake I completely agree man, I always thought the same thing.

  • @INtZshakenbake It's just because he's black.

  • @INtZshakenbake When they played in Orlando, Javier came out to a few cheers, and Navene followed, also with a few cheers. When Tosin came out, the place erupted.

  • Comment removed

  • @INtZshakenbake Tosin usualy does all the interview so maybe they're just not familliar with the rest of the band

  • @INtZshakenbake Neither Naver nor Javier were involved in the making of Animals As Leaders [the album]. They just play the songs live. But it was all about Tosin (guitars) and Misha (drums and guitars).

  • @amjan That is true, but they were both a big part of writing material for the new album. Navene's work in bands like Animosity and Fleshwrought deserves some recognition as well. Cause that shit is pretty incredible.

  • @INtZshakenbake I think They will get credit for the next album, Because they are involved with writing songs on the next album. Tosin deserves the credit for this album because, It is brain child.

  • @INtZshakenbake The same situation with Misha from periphery... yes he is good but he's not alone in the band.

  • @INtZshakenbake Javier's uploaded two videos of him playing. If you haven't already, then definitely check them out, because as you said, he's an incredible musician.

  • @INtZshakenbake Yeah these vids are good because of the way they're shot; my focus is totally on Navene.

  • @INtZshakenbake I know what you mean, but the reason is simply because AAL's popularity was established when it was just a one man band.

  • navene is so good...shreds every style and every instrument!!

  • he is so fucking good. you can tell he's really getting into the music, when he just starts soloing over top of certain sections.

  • 5:10 for all u br00tal people.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh, and that'd be an incredible writing process.

  • fuck i don't like this shit... it's all noodlng, the song writing is pretty boring and overly technical. sounds like cut/paste song writing to me.

  • @ottawadrummer I bet you dont like off time signatures when you write music. Because this dude is easily one of the best drummers out there. Regardless of his writing process. the whole band recorded the new album. not producers. maybe this was programmed before they had navene, but so what. dude i s a robot.

  • @YeahImAnthony nah I like off time, time-signatures, I just find their style really irritating for some reason. If you listen to the older funk/motown drummers they were groovin to some pretty funky and off time rhythms, but you didn't think about it like you do with a lot of today's 'technical' music, it was just a good groove.

This sounds like their trying too hard. It's un-catchy so to speak.

  • @ottawadrummer Well your either mad jealous or you're like 99.9% of the old people in my town that hate change. Music evolves and shit changes. get with the program.

  • @ottawadrummer @ottawadrummer lol this is just a jam band, and all their songs are basically "noodleing" you think there some underlying meaning to this music? hate to break it to you all music is cut/paste.

  • @Necronaut no, they're playing songs. meaning? no, you have the wrong wording. Noodling is just taking a tricky riff you've put together and applying it randomly in a song with no correlation to the beginning or the song as a whole. It's just there to be flashy. And you're clearly not a musician if you think all music is cut and paste! How do you think they wrote songs before computers were around? 4-5 people got together and collaborated on ideas and let things flowed naturally.

  • @ottawadrummer ok noodling is not a finite term, its just an expression you could say, noodling can also be describing someone soloing or grooving. what does computers have to do with cut and paste. paper was used before computers and thats where the term cut and paste is from, when people would cut and paste paper. same with sheet music.

  • @Necronaut well more specifically it's gratuitous noodling that doesn't shape the song or provide any catchy melodies. Just a bunch of random crap sewn together.

  • ok enough with the comments, I've said what I have to say and there's no reason to try to convince me otherwise.

  • @ottawadrummer music is all random crap, im not trying to be convincing im telling you how it is.

  • @Necronaut nah, good music flows, this starts and stops every riff.

  • @ottawadrummer i really have listened to this numerous times and i havent heard him stop playing after every riff. soo....uhh..ya. this is all flow.

  • @Necronaut this is phenomenal flow, ottawa drummer has no idea about what he is talking about. id like to see him try to even groove like navene. key word. " try "

  • @Necronaut it depends on how you look at it. but, music most of the time is certainly not random crap. knowing that tobin and the other guitar player have gone to music school, i know that without a doubt that they apply tons of their theory into wat they do.

  • @MetalHead420100 hahahahahahhahaha his names not fucking tobin

  • @fattybergeson no. i was actually reffering to tobin abasi. not their drummer. i know his name.

  • @MetalHead420100 I know you weren't talking about the drummer, his name is TOSIN abasi, not tobin abasi.

  • @fattybergeson oh yea. ur right. whatever i made a lil mistake. big whoop

  • @MetalHead420100 I wasn't making fun of you dude, its all good. I just genuinely thought the mistake of Tosin's name, Tobin Abasi, was hilarious, that's all.

  • @fattybergeson oh. well, ok then. good to hear actually haha

  • second thing i love the most out of this video besides AAl...no dislikes

  • Navene Koperweis, Travis Orbin, and Matt Halpern are my favorite drummers.

  • Love the fill at 4:16.

  • (ID) shorts :D

  • fuck, he's so good. love his playing

  • 3:25 i love how that guy tries to get the crowd to clap along, but they're all like "dude fuck that we're gonna look like idiots in a second here"

  • i have those same shorts =D

  • that is a THIICK fucking snare drum

  • Id love to see this MONSTER shedding with those gospel cats.. that'd be interesting

  • And this guy used to play in a grindcore band called Animosity... Holy shit he's good!

  • He did ghost notes in PERFECTION for all of Tempting time. Holy christ! what a gun.

  • nice, he's wearing Ion Dissonance shorts in this video

  • @FotherMucker00 dude, it's [id] the album of Veil Of Maya

  • @chikidrummer ok, cheers

  • @FotherMucker00 nah those are veil of mayas (id) shorts

  • I don't play drums but i sure do enjoy seeing this guy play

  • this proves you can play progressive music without a huge ass drum set -___-

  • @XxLudwiGxX94 Evan Sammons

  • @XxLudwiGxX94 Matt Halpern is also a good example.

  • @XxLudwiGxX94 exactly! mike portnoy can fuck off

  • @VampiricNightMachine i disliked him since he was acting stupid with dt

  • @XxLudwiGxX94 Have you see Matt Halpern?

  • @bigthunk nope

  • @XxLudwiGxX94 The point was for you to check him out.

  • @bigthunk sorry i didnt fallow your point :p

  • this guy plays like in some kind of world domination mode he's amazing I'd give my nuts to play like he does :D

  • um, how many cymbals are stacked off to the right? it looks like one underneath, bottom hat-style, then a big one, smaller one, and maybe another small?

  • A foot cam would be a nice finishing touch

  • i wanna see a foot cam

  • he's repping some great shorts haha

  • Holy, Navene rips!

  • I just watched a man become a living drumset

  • should have replaced Mike Portnoy! lol

  • @unccharris Comparing Navene with Mike is like comparing apples with pears if you ask me. They both have completley different styles. Navene could do it, but i don't think he really wants to.

  • the song transition rids my constapation caused from music "WELL" known.

  • sweet shorts hes got on

  • @normalwhitedude are they veil of maya?! says (id) jus like the album, tho i could be completely wrong and retarded

  • @YouBelongToTheDead yeah the shorts are veil of maya shorts.

  • would like to see more drummers like him playing smalls sets like he's

  • @yomeportobien matt halpern from periphery plays with one floor tom and even less cymbals usually haha

navene and matt are probably my 2 favorite drummers

an i completely agree, i think minimal kits challenge drummers to be more creative, i'm always trying to "shrink" my kit down a bit.

  • oooo mini china

  • what the hell is that stack made of? it looks like 4 cymbals or something he had Thor make out of his hammer. great vid btw.

  • Sick pair of [id] pants

  • Naveennnneee

  • intro music?

  • @mysteriousDSF Septicflesh

  • @sickdrummerdotcom what song?

  • Comment removed

  • @temporaryonesix haha calling me lazy for 1 i dont even the band

  • Comment removed

  • @sickdrummerdotcom intro track title?

  • Can't wait for the new album. Navene always kills it!

  • his stack sounds so cool. and he's gotten so much better at playing these songs if you compare it to youtube vids of him playing from like 3-4 months ago, he's really putting his own twist on everything.

  • holy fuck he went crazy during tempting time. christ hes soooo good

  • Hes wearing [id] shorts, what a sick kent

  • He is so sick...
