I find behold the arctopus interesting to listen too. There's beauty in dissonance. It is absolutely music, saying it is not is being an absolute moron. There is melody, and there's Rythm. It's music. It's not a pleasing sound to the ear, but what the hell do you think an arctopus is? Definitly not something pretty.

Well not really. Its not meant to sound awful at all. Actual technical metal sounds fucking immense. If it sounds awful then your not doing it right. If you like weird metal then you might like Gorguts. They take technical to a whole new level and their stuff is hard to get into but they actually have logic to their music. They have a point. No, you see, bands like Dream Theater, Rush, Symphony-X, and Zappa make good sounding AND complex music, in which I give my highest respects.
I hate to be a 'compare guy', but those are bands that can actually apply whole-note scales and 'out-of-the-box' chords into something musically moving. These guys can't.... or maybe they can but don't.
I'm sorry, but music isn't a sport. I love challening music but it has to be, well, music in order for me to respect it.
I think when it comes to bands like Behold The Arctopus, it boils down to what your taste in music is, and overall, your opinion. Once you start listening to avant garde metal such as this (forgive me if this band is mislabeled) it's really hard to get into, since these guys do so many tempo changes.
I dunno, personally, I find the music stimulating, but after 1 minute or so I've had my fill. After that I go listen to Amon Amarth.
@JPSS97 see you have to listen to the studio version to fully apreciate their complexity, likewise with anytech deth band as when the drums are fused in perfectly you can see what they were really trying to do here.
Its all pretty impressive in the studio version and alot more musical than it sounds here aswell.
@JPSS97 I can definitely understand that a lot of people look to music to be "moving," but who's to say that that's what music has to be? There are two sides to music - the intellectual, and the emotional. Behold the Arctopus is all intellectual, while the other bands you mentioned manage to mix the two. I'm a big fan of the concept that anything is music, and don't think it's fair to say that this isn't music.

Just to potentially prove that these guys can play more evocative music, listen to skullgrid/canada, the section after around 3:17 is really gorgeous I think.

Lol mate, that's not my band. I'm assuming you mean Future Of The Left (which although just a small band outta Cardiff, have a much bigger following than behold the arse). Watching their live videos makes my brain hurt, they're so badly out of time with each other, not to mention the guitarist having the worst tone in history & just looking like general dicks while trying to rock out to atonal wank. No, you see, bands like Dream Theater, Rush, Symphony-X, and Zappa make good sounding AND complex music, in which I give my highest respects.
I hate to be a 'compare guy', but those are bands that can actually apply whole-note scales and 'out-of-the-box' chords into something musically moving. These guys can't.... or maybe they can but don't.
I'm sorry, but music isn't a sport. I love challening music but it has to be, well, music in order for me to respect it.

I think when it comes to bands like Behold The Arctopus, it boils down to what your taste in music is, and overall, your opinion. Once you start listening to avant garde metal such as this (forgive me if this band is mislabeled) it's really hard to get into, since these guys do so many tempo changes.
I dunno, personally, I find the music stimulating, but after 1 minute or so I've had my fill. After that I go listen to Amon Amarth.

@JPSS97 see you have to listen to the studio version to fully apreciate their complexity, likewise with anytech deth band as when the drums are fused in perfectly you can see what they were really trying to do here.
Its all pretty impressive in the studio version and alot more musical than it sounds here aswell.

@JPSS97 I can definitely understand that a lot of people look to music to be "moving," but who's to say that that's what music has to be? There are two sides to music - the intellectual, and the emotional. Behold the Arctopus is all intellectual, while the other bands you mentioned manage to mix the two. I'm a big fan of the concept that anything is music, and don't think it's fair to say that this isn't music.

There's plenty of Metal heads out there that enjoy listening to bands like these dudes. A lot of it stems from a band called Sprial Architect. Prog musicianship taken further into more random levels. Ever listen to John Coltrane? Though his music was superier to these guy's.

A Record Labels perpous is to promote a bands CD and the band it's self. BUt what they do is tkae a large percentage of the money made and the band only gets so much for what they did.
