decent enough list. Games around now also worth a mention for interestingness - crayon physics deluxe (first game to get my wife interested ever); the witcher (just for mood.. truly great... so often forgotten, but moving to consoles soon I think); holding my breath for empire total war, as everyone of those total war games are awesome, should be featured in university courses
Man, I HATED MGS4. Absolutely hated it. Maybe it's just cause I found the story insipid and the damn game MADE me pay attention to it. I also found the storytelling just BAD. Stuff happened, and you did stuff but had no idea why, and then later someone would explain what happened. The hour long ending was basically explaining all the shit that happened; it was an hour of posthumanous exposition. Awful.
Also, PRESS X TO SEE ART
And of course Paul isn't gonna put his own game on the list.
That game owes NOTHING to Fallout 1 + 2, which are the best RPGs ever made. They just added guns to Oblivion and the characters are as equally flat. It owes 1000000x more to Oblivion than Fallout 1 and 2, and Oblivion wasn't good either.
Mirror's edge: I'd be interested to know what you think was especially new about it? If its how they used movement then I would point to (more recently) Assassin's Creed, but also (and with far less linear/tied down movement systems) Tribes and Quake strafejumping in the past. Both those titles used movement (unintentionally as it happened) to great effect, creating a very different sort of gameplay to other FPS titles.
I agree with Left 4 dead certainly, and would point to portal as well.
My Top 10 : - Pokemon GB - Half-Life 1 - Half-Life 2 - Doom - The Godfather - TES III Morrowind - TES IV Oblivion - Team Fortress 2 - Left 4 Dead - Portal
basicly i disagree with you on two points, rock band 2, i personally just like guitar hero world tour better, especially if youre playing drums, and GTA4, if you think that game is good try saints row 2, it really, really rocks, its a lot less serious but its just some much more better, try it.
Not gonna ramble. I like WAR, everyone knows there are server number issues still, as well as balance issues for numbers on each side.
My new beef? Play the choppa or slayer early? These classes were left out at launch, the very second they are available to play they should be in your game. Making people jump through hoops to play them "early" (6 months late?) is terrible. It was probably marketings idea, and it's dumb.
That said I love WAR, I'll be there. Just stupid marketing.
During the Heavy Metal event, it was actually incredibly easy to 'earn' playing the classes early. If its as easy this time, anyone that currently plays gets to play a Slayer/Choppa at the same time, while holding off the potential influx of resubscribers/new customers to a week later, at which point people will have leveled into Tier 2 or gone back to their main characters, and spreads out the population. Its a logistics issue really, and a smart choice.
Games your are playing? what you have not burned Mirrors edge out of the water yet? Which bring me to the problems with game now adays. 50 dollars or 60 if you own a concle and you finishes it in 3 to 6 hours. Boring and a waste of money. Plus do not expect me to pay 50 bucks for some extremly nice looking game that is short as can be then get my money worth out of a half bake multiplayer that has hunders if not millions of problems and bugs.
A list very similar to my own- though I'd be curious about your thoughts on Crysis/Warhead and thoughts about how the sequal took what was good and bad from the first game, and either made numerous what was fun, and/or improved what wasn't. /ponder.
Wonder why Mr. B didn't mention WoW in the list. Addictive piece of sh...
Wish you ppl just waited two more months 'til the wow players get bored, start looking for something cooler and then suddenly War appears in a golden armor to help the needing. XD
And yes, world of goo is incredible. Actually spent 20€ to buy it... they deserve it, defintely.

My current top 8 in no particular order:
The Half Life 2
Portal
Left 4 Dead
Dawn of War I + II
Battlefield 2142
World of Warcraft
The Neverwinter Nights 2
Postal 2
I'd love to put Warhammer Online on that list, but there's just too much to be fixed before I could do that without any bad feelings.

What about Warhammer Online? Is that Not The Best Game MMO Game yet? =P

Freaklegion00,
i agree with you 99%, they should release it to everyone ASAP
now the 1% that doesnt agree with you.. is that part of me that LOVES events in MMOs

you forgot warhammer online! one of the few MMOs to break the mold of traditional grinding and gameplay.
MAUL0r1 2 years ago
all good, and something for almost every genre, even my Street Fighter :) Surprising no MMOs were mentioned however

Would be kind of hard for him to be objective if he included MMO's.

Valkyria Chronicles is also amazing. It is the best game on the PS3 right now. Everyone with a PS3 should check it out.

I would throw in the list some games like: Hellgate London
It's good to know how and why something worked but sometimes it's an even better lesson to understand why something failed.
A decent game with a strong, fresh IP... what happened?
