Yea Belfort is techniquely a step heavier but remember that on fight night fighters can vary greatly on their weight. Plus in terms of height they are all pretty much even.

@truboricua Most fans agree boxing is a great addition to MMA training. The argument is that it's not a very good base. Lots of MMA champion came from pure backgrounds in BJJ, Muay Thai, and wrestling. As far as I know, none came from a pure boxing background. I think the problem is that boxing is just too one dimensional. Muay Thai is limited to striking, but at least you learn how to deal with kicks and elbows. Some styles also form better hybrids. Wrestling/boxing seems great.

Alot of old school boxing fans think that if a fighter was a really goodboxer, he could knock out somebody shooting for a takedown but I don't know if that would happen. I have kneed somebody for the KO while they shot for my legs but I wasn't exactly fighting GSP or a UFC caliber wrestler

In MMA its all about footwork where as boxing is head movement and precise strikes. You rarely see boxers get hit flush on the chin because of the fact that the gloves are so huge. Where as MMA you can come in at angles you dont expect and with strikes besides just punches.

MMA you can use other tactics to protect your face that would normally be point deductions in boxing, making it harder to protect yourself. You can see in this fight Vitor doesnt know how to react to the guys punch, he immediately goes for a clinch (which is mma strategy). In boxing you have to elude, and use your evasiveness and style to either block or dodge punches, its a totally different game..that a boxer would win 9/10 times. Quinton Jackson used to box, he'd be an exception.

Everyone cuts weight, everyone. 185 appears to be a natural fighting weight for Vitor. When I used to fight I would fight at 175-185lb. I walked around at 205-210. Virtually every fighter walks around 20-30lbs heavier.

VITOR CAN STAND WITH ANDERSON. I think if Vitor wins it will be in the first round. If it goes longer Anderson might have the edge because Vitor has a weakness for over exerting himself early. the thing every boxer doesn't realize it the stance is completely different, boxers stand to benefit only punching and movement, mma/kickboxers stand so they can benefit everything and prevent themselves from getting their legs kicked out from under them. a boxer would easily get dropped with legs kicks. boxing is a sport, mma/kickboxing is straight up battle. if someone is one dimensional and only is good at boxing, they'll get lit up by leg kicks knees elbows, and easy takedowns.

@truboricua Personally I thought that was just being rigid in the first place, it's called mma for a reason, so we should find a way to incorporate certain aspects of the fight game that work for the individual fighter. Even with muay thai many americans don't do so well, since they don't focus on one and try wetting their feet in other arts once they've established a foundation.

@truboricua Most fans agree boxing is a great addition to MMA training. The argument is that it's not a very good base. Lots of MMA champion came from pure backgrounds in BJJ, Muay Thai, and wrestling. As far as I know, none came from a pure boxing background. I think the problem is that boxing is just too one dimensional. Muay Thai is limited to striking, but at least you learn how to deal with kicks and elbows. Some styles also form better hybrids. Wrestling/boxing seems great.

Alot of old school boxing fans think that if a fighter was a really goodboxer, he could knock out somebody shooting for a takedown but I don't know if that would happen. In MMA its all about footwork where as boxing is head movement and precise strikes. You rarely see boxers get hit flush on the chin because of the fact that the gloves are so huge. Where as MMA you can come in at angles you dont expect and with strikes besides just punches.

MMA you can use other tactics to protect your face that would normally be point deductions in boxing, making it harder to protect yourself. You can see in this fight Vitor doesnt know how to react to the guys punch, he immediately goes for a clinch (which is mma strategy). In boxing you have to elude, and use your evasiveness and style to either block or dodge punches, its a totally different game..that a boxer would win 9/10 times. Quinton Jackson used to box, he'd be an exception.

Have you seen him lately? He is fighting tomorrow night at what appears to be his natural weigh which is 185 lbs. Vitor is tough but besides one fantastic UFC which was aided by hie use of steroids, he never did anything of any significants.. That's not to put him down.. I mean to say that he never had a very realistic chance of becoming Champion again.

That is not his natural weight. He had to cut to get to that weight. And Vitor still destroyed Wanderlei Silva. With his boxing alone I may add and Silva is Muay Thai. And even if Vitor was roided out, who in MMA wasnt? Especially when they were not getting tested at the time.

Everyone cuts weight, everyone. 185 appears to be a natural fighting weight for Vitor. When I used to fight I would fight at 175-185lb. I walked around at 205-210. Virtually every fighter walks around 20-30lbs heavier.

OMG what a can.. that is the most flat footed boxer I have ever seen.. O well Cant expect them to start Vitor at the top.

This match just proves what kind of a demi god vitor is in the ring. He can own anyone at his will and if he is in the right conditioning. We all want the OLD vitor back!!

Own anyone? I have never fought a boxing match in my life, I'm 5'9" and weigh 185lbs and I would beat my house and car that I could KO this guy inside one round too. This guy is a complete joke. Vitor was the best fighter in MMA for about a week way back when he was sterioded and blown up to 225 lbs.
