I wonder if Laser isn't stronger than Zica Laser... I like both of them, and I think they are better than any other front weapon in Tyrian.
As for my favorite setup: Any Gencore ship or Protype Stalker C (For their auto-repair system), Laser or Zica laser, Heavy Guided Bombs or Guided Microbombs, Atom bombs for both sidekicks (or eventually Battleship class firebomb on one side).
@ThinBear4 - I think the laser is stronger. It must be maxed though, on lower levels I find Zica stronger. In my book it's laser, rear heavy missile lvl 9, a-bomb/plasma storm and any ship with armor recovery. My joker rear waepon favourite is banana bomb, but I don't remember how to get it.
No ArvaF, this trick STILL WORKS in Tyrian 2000. The way to get to the secret level is just different - Don't shoot any U-Fighters and then you'll get that ship near the end of the level to drop the secret level key.
There is even an easier way. The requirement is that you have had Zica Laser at least once in the game.
Go to the ship editor and equip any ship with zica laser. During the game simply press TAB+Ship number and you'll get that ship. This way you can get zica laser in full game
Yeah, you always have a good generator when Laser comes so it doesn't matter really. It's still strongest though. I also like the starburst maxed out earlier in the game, it's actually suprisingly strong.
I'm a little more butch, I think the Laser and rear heavy missile deal enough damage for most areas, so I usually have plasma storm, for bosses mostly. Zica flamethrower is a favourite too, especially the old one in Tyrian 1, it's so heavy that not even the gravitron generator can handle it. =)

one more question....is the microcorp hxs class b the best shield in the game?
cause in the ship generator i used to have
there existed a class c of that type...
do you know if it can be found and at which level?
(propably a secret secret one)

Interesting though i usually get heavy guided bombs among with zica laser lvl10(lvl 11 sucks!!!)
By the way by the time you get the laser i think you already shound have the gravitron generator so you can afford it!
What about sidekicks?
i go with zica supercharger and battleship class firebomb!
(ultil i get them i use companion ship gerund:P)

My favourite front gun is the Laser. But Zica is better on lower item level and with weaker generators.
Try my favourite combo: Front - Laser (full, lvl 11) and Rear - Rear heavy missile (lvl 9)
