I remember my Mum playing these songs when I was about five years old. I never thought I'd come back to play them in my 40's, but artists like these are legendary.
I am praying for Dionne. She has taken her cousin Whitney Houston's death pretty hard and I am sure she will be at her funeral. In 1963,her carrer was just taking off and that was the year Whitney was born.I know there is almost 23 years difference, but she is Whitney's first cousin. Both of their mothers were sisters.
I agree, Dionne's voice and enormous catalog of songs have been a balm and healing force throughout my entire life. I cannot imagine the same time without her having been a part of it. Sing on sweet Dionne!
The beautiful and talented Dionne Warwick. One of my favorite songs. This song got its title from Dionne herself after making a statement "Don't make me over".
HER VOICE IS SO STRIKINGLY BEAUTIFUL AND AS YOU SEE HER EVOLUTION, SHE DID HAVE A MAKEOVER WHICH MADE HER ONE OF THE MOST STRIKING & BEST DRESSED LADIES OF THE TIME! SHE'S FILLED WITH GRACEFUL ELEGANCE AS SHE MOVES & SINGS..LIKE A GAZELLE! HARDLY SUPERFICIAL! PEACE VIA MUSIC..
@magcarril Dionne was a great singer but at the time she was never thought of as being "best dressed." She and Aretha were often thought of as "tacky" dressers.
You shallow people that say Yikes and talk about her looks...you probably love the crappy stuff theyre putting out now because nowadays its LOOKS OVER SUBSTANCE...HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@lonehorseman09....That's a real superficial observation on your part. To quote a comment from someone who appreciates her elegance and beauty...."High cheekbones, beautiful doe eyes, exotic looks. She was revelation then and still is everytime she sets her foot on stage." Thanks Deleone11 for commenting on what is so obvious.
Her best track ever! Still brings tears to my eyes! What a pity she traded the REAL SOUL of beautiful songs like this, for more mainstream, supper-club fare of her later output! A remarkable voice and an iconic tune. Amazing!
Nonsense. "Don't Make Me Over" is a classic, but some of Warwick's later 60's recordings were flawless. Dionne was never a very soulful singer, but she was technically brilliant, and recordings like "I Say a Little Prayer", "Window Wishing" and "Who Is Gonna Love Me", among others, are prime examples of that. Her emotive magic was in that wistful, pensive yet aching quality she brought to those love songs, not in conventional "soul" gimmicks.
With her impeccable voice, gospel training, formal education in music, exotic looks, and first-rate mind, Dionne Warwick was the consummate chanteuse, one of popular music's top hit makers, topped only by Aretha Franklin in Top 40 chart recordings, and arguably a better singer. In the UK, Sandie Shaw, Cilla Black & Dusty Springfield all tried to mimic Warwick. No one has ever matched her. Strangely, she has never been given her proper recognition & respect as a megastar vocal artist.
i rediscovered what i heard as music in my age 7 years old. i remember i accepted her for what she was and much more
