my son does this now, but he is only 3 months old. He just does not want to fall asleep!! He also resorts to grabbing my hair , jerking his head (while still nursing, ouch!), and clawing my boob...i think he triest o get me to jump to wake him up because it HURTS lol.
but you stop at like 6 months, right ? Cause i'm weirded out by my girlfriend breastfeeding her 13 month old....I'll like..break up with her if someone tells me its not normal lol.
It's not weird at all....Your supposed to ONLY feed your baby breastmilk the first 6 months, and for a MINIMUM of 12 months. It's suggested you go at least a full 2 years. Most babies will self wean between 2-4 years old. It's not weird at all. If she nurses for the first 18 months it makes it MUCH MUCH MUCH easier (as for parenting) on both of you. Far less temper tantrums.
Just want to say that when I was born I was lactose intolerant, and was raised on soy formula for about the first 2 years of my life (I could drink milk by the time I was 3, but for some reason couldn't when I was a baby). According to my mom, my family, and my mom's friends, I almost never had tantrums or even cried when something was wrong with me.
However, there are a lot of things I notice that I think resulted from not being breast fed. For example, whenever I drink milk on a regular basis (like once a glass once a day), my body would tend to store up a lot of body fat - and on the contrary, when I don't drink milk, I start losing weight rapidly (as much as 10lbs or more in less than a week).
I also have a lot of anxiety issues now (I'm 19), like I get panic attacks and think I'm dying sometimes, usually if I've been alone for too long, and I have like an innate fear of being left behind by the people I love.
I've been to a lot of psychologists, and they also speculate that those were all consequences of never being breast fed.
Sorry that these posts are kind of long, but I hope all that helps any future parents who are deciding whether or not to breast feed.
@SpunkySkunk347 I can relate to the anxiety issues...when I was your age I faced a lot of that my self...panic attacks, I couldn't be left alone, fear of death. Which to this day I still get panic attacks & anxiety issues but not NEARLY as often. I've never connected those dots to not being breastfed though?!?! I'd like to hear the reasoning behind the conclusion. I LOVE TO LEARN!!!
lol!! my daughter does it n she's formula fed! she actually knocks d bottle out of her mouth sumtimes!! its so cute! n jace's lil voice "bye bye!" ahh!! (",)
my nine month old son still does that lol i love that my son has done that scince he was born but only when he is falling asleep too... I cant wait for baby number two due in may
Chelsea does that too but she also grabs at my boobs and pinches them and also grabes at my face so I have little red marks on my face from her finger nails.

my almost 4months old son do the same thing to. he kinda rub his head when ever he get sleeping*while feeding*. im not sure y he do it either :D hihihi
i looked it up on baby center- girl said her pedi called it - self soothing
i guess its extremely normal and almost all babies do it (mine doesnt, but she may not know how to do it yet) i guess rubbing their head helps them relax
Makes sense... I used to rub my feet together b4 bed, until JOel & I started sharing a bed, the habit got on his nerves, and eventually I quit (eventually meaning sometime over 9 1/2 years) ha
That's adorable. I love watching your videos. You have the cutest kids. :] Btw, my husband and I are TTC and we've decided to breastfeed. Do you have any breastfeeding advice?
LOL My son does the exact same thing! He does it to calm himself down and get himself to sleep. He'll do it any time he's getting tired, along with rubbing his eyes.
Yah he does my chest too but only when hes awake & staying awake while he nurses...its cute but can b frustrating bc he'll do it so hard he makes my nipple come out of his mouth then gets bad at me like I did it...lol

so cute! :) it might be kind of like how kittens do when they are nursing their mom. some other baby animals do as well. they paw at themselves or their mom.

My daughter will do the same thing...she also will fiddle with my bra and play with my shirt or my arm. Nice to see she isn't the only one who does it.
My Daughter does the same Thing! She is 4 months old this tuesday & when she is going to fall asleep nursing she does this..How funny..He is soo cute by the way!
my friends baby used to do that whenever he was tired and falling asleep im not sure if its a comfort thing or them trying to fight to stay awake. but its cute either way lol.
My brothers, lol, use to pick their noses... My kids needed me to do exactly that- rub their head- I use to constantly rub their head while they slept... My mom said i use to rub my cheek, because she comforted me with my silk blankie....
My son does the exact same thing. I think it's so cute. Love the cat analogy, lol

@SpunkySkunk347 Perhaps you built up a slow tolerance to it through other foods that contained milk/dairy?
