Its definitely not a good place to start jumping. You should either do your progression from higher and more overhangig big walls, or do quite a lot of bridgejumps or similar safer low jumps, to learn exits and canopy control first. In lauterbrunnen there is not much time to correct any problems you might experience.
Guess, you're right, just watched some videos with 180s in it, looked pretty scary.
By the way, intersting choice of music for this vid, it kinda gives a feel of threat and awe, instead of pure joy or calmness, like in the most of the wingsuit videos around youtube.
I'm looking at hitting up Brento next spring. I've done a few BASE jumps now but I'm keen to start getting into the sport a lot more. Is there a hostel or cheap accommodation where most BASE jumpers stay when in the area?? I'll most likely be heading there by myself or maybe one other. We'll have a car but as you say and from what I've heard you need two cars. Thanks for help bud.
hm...yeah, you can camp at the field by the bar, or ask around there whats the places people stay at. I've stayed a couple different places. Its a farm quite close thats quite popular i think.
I love how you answer everyone's questions. You're a mad dude =D I'll be up in the mountains as soon as I have a hundred or so skydives in a wingsuit. Why does skydiving have to be so expensive!!
@wastedwasted3 WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?? I hope you were kidding.
There was absolutely NOTHING fake about this video. Not before 2:01, Not at 2:01, and not after 2:01. Please leave this stuff to us adults! You clearly have NO IDEA what the hell your talking about.
Is Lauterbrunnen an easy spot to access? I'm trying to figure out which will be my first location to visit when i'm ready for it...I'm on the path to getting my skydivers licence, and have bought a paraglider to learn and get comfortable with the basics of controling a canopy.
There's a few really great looking locations in Norway, but i think they are a lot of work to reach if one wanted to do multiple jumps in one day?
You defently dont want to go to lauterbrunnen for your first jumps. If you dont want to go to Norway, Brento in italy is a better place to start than the valley. Good overhangig wall with a decent rockdrop. Its also a short hike and relatively easy access, though you need two cars. Also, make sure you go with someone who knows the weather conditions there...generally hook up with someone that can give you the right answers, or at least start with a FJC in kjerag.
Nice1 man..i wasn't sure about Kjerag, from the vids it looks harder than Lauterbrunnen, but i guess thats just my perception from here! What does FJC stand for?..first jump_? I'll be checking out Brento in the meantime....Another thing i don't see anyone using-or haven't noticed at least-is an altimeter..i presume that after a few hundred skydives it becomes second nature to guage the distance?
@HalvorAngvik Hey again, i'd be interested in Norway for my first go,i just thought Lauterbrunnen looked easy-plus i've got friends not too far from there...i won't be ready for some time yet as i'm only just beginning my training in skydiving and paragliding!!
I e-mailed your mate Jokke and asked him to forward it on to you too, you'll have my e-mail address then, and if you were willing to put up with me picking your brains, i could contact you that way from time to time! :)
Looks like the ultimate good time but how risky really is it?? Even the most experienced guys seem to fuck up (Gegenschatz, etc). One false move or misjudgment is one too many. I live less than an hour away from Lauterbrunnen and am jealous to see how much fun you guys are having.... but is it all worth it? Or is it safer than I think?
I'm only 15, but I was wondering how old you have to be how you begin doing stuff like this? Do you have to take classes and become certified? Please help. Thanks
No rules or regulations and no courses that will teach you all you need to know. You need to read, hang, learn and jump with other experienced jumpers, And preferably get a mentor that will make sure you have a safe progression. Its a really good idea to start skydiving first, to get the cannopy control and the skills in flying your body in a safe enviroment, and most countries have an age limit of 16-18 for that i suppose.
Its practicly no hiking in the lauterbrunnen valley as both sides of the valley can be reached either by train or gondola. The bigger mountains have some hiking, but its still pretty easy stuff :)
So on the parts that involve hiking, surely you take water/food etc and thus what do you do with the bottles/left overs etc at the top? This is my dream to do the proximity flying stuff here, it's just utter insanity and beauty rolled into one.
This video was filmed using a sony TG3 camera with a 0,3x liquid wide angle. The lense really degrade the imagequality, but i guess the quality is still good to be a youtube video.
I've bought a 0.3x opteka HD lense now, which gives way better imagequality, as well as a sony cx-105 camera.
@glasseverywhere I tried the 1080p...it was slower for me than the 360. Maybe my work pc couldn't hack it or the bandwidth was too slow, but man...what a video! :D
i was skiing the last week in france-valfrejus (also paraski) and visited lauterbrunnen at the way to it. to bad the weather was to cold and nobody wanted to jump or wasnt at that side. also have seen a 50kg rock smashing down the east-wall. what a hell of a sound;). but anyway that valley is so cool a video really cant give u a real impression of it.
yep, i noticed choppers flying around near the mushroom, and thought 'i wonder if their doing what i think their doing, and sure enough about 20 minutes later the 'crack 'crack' of canopys, one wingsuiter and one tracker, what a fantastic country.
thats the train from Grindelwald to Interlaken.......was on it 8 days ago.....skiing tho, not BASE jumping. I didnt realise how easily accessable the Lauterbrunnen valley walls are from Murren and Wengan, and the Eiger mushroom from the Jungfraujoch train(i assume you hike from the last stop before the top of europe). I was sitting at the top of Kleiner Sheidegg and heard a familar 'crack' 'crack'.....two canopys opening, and they landed right next to the Tee-Pee hut.....SUPERCOOL.
Thanks man, sorry, i dont have any 3rd person shots of that. It wasnt that spectacular really. We just tried to make some fun stuff at the exit after a filmcrew cut down the tree i jumped from on the first jump. It was a pretty short swing.
Alt er filmet med sony TG-3 og liquid 3 (0.29 wideangle). bra kamera for base, fordi det er så lett, men for kvalitet ville jeg heller gått for topmounted cx-105 med en bra wideangle.

Wow dude, wasn't it extremely dangerous to get that close to the rocks? It looked as though one false move could've resulted in you or the other dude smashing into the face of the cliff. =o

Whats your opinion on starting BASE jumping in Lauterbrunnen?
Do you think, it's a good spot for the first few jumps or would you consider Lauterbrunnen for more experienced jumpers?
(Not that I'm anywhere near, to start BASE, but you know... it would be kind of a pity, living in Switzerland and not getting into BASE)
