Looks like a cool controller, but Akai's app is absolutely TERRIBLE. I hope to get the SynthStation 25 and use it with Xewton Music Studio though - now there's a great music creation app.

@MrSvjoe Well it works as a MIDI controller for a computer, but it doesn't actually make sounds - it just sends MIDI messages to the iPhone/iPod/iPad or computer program, which then plays the note. So if you're asking if it's a hardware keyboard/synth, the answer is no. But if you're asking if you can use it with other types of devices, such as a computer or laptop, the answer is yes.

@InnerCityZoo Yep, they are both compatible. You can also use the Synthstation in the Garageband app if you download the app Midi Bridge.

One question, when I have it plugged into my computer and into garageband I cannot use the buttons on the actual keyboard. Also plugged in the app doesn't change anything about the sound. I would appreciate it if you helped me with these issues.

@voodoo411 Yes, with an adapter, extension. The Synthstation 49 is actually made for the iPad.

@videoeditors It supports plenty of apps. For other apps, I don't think the drum and synth buttons work, but you should have no problems with the keys. I'm not positive about Alchemy in particular, but I know it works with NLog Synth and some others. Check if Alchemy is MIDI compatible.

@Ctpuff96 No, the software is proprietary to the app, but you can record the audio to your computer via a sound card. I hope this helps!
