  • not "my sweet satan", it's "hi sweet satan"

  • Nope he says" my sweet satan"

although it sounded like saying" hi"

    thx 4 comment

  • Yeah, Mikael is only serious when he's writing the music. He likes to joke around with audiences at concerts, there's videos all over Youtube of him messing around.

  • Of course it's a joke, Akerfeldt announced it a year ago. He's a joker.

  • It's almost the same extract than led zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven, u know? done like 30 years ago...

  • really!

then i gotta check it out

  • Except that the "satanistic" part of Stairway to Heaven was found by some religious freaks, and that's what Åkerfeldt is making fun of in this song and By the Pain I See in Others :)

It's pretty much impossible to hear the message in Stairway without knowing what to listen for. Here it is easy. And it is definetly impossible to make a backwards message without doing like Opeth.

  • it wouldn't be hard to voice a backwards message. like if you want it to say, "hail satan" just record that, play it backwards and listen to it a couple times, just to hear what it sounds like. it will probably sound something like "nice leah". so just say "nice leah" on the real recording, and if anyone happens to play it backward, they'll hear an intentional subliminal message.

  • You really think so? I'm not so sure. Spoken sound isn't behaving exactly the same when you play it backwards as it normally do, so even if you do as you say I guess it would be very difficult to hear anything.

And about Stairway to Heaven; the "message" is much longer than just "Hail Satan". So even if your method works, it would be damn tricky to make lyrics out of the backwards message.

  • good point. it would be difficult, and hit or miss, but i'm sure it's possible. tho i agree robert plant didn't do any of that for Stairway. you can interpret messages out of any song. case in point: search "metallica one backwards" in youtube. i wrote the entire song backwards. it's mostly b.s., but pretty funny.

  • Really cool video, good job on the lyrics :)

And you demonstrate THE argument against bacwards messages: That it simply is a matter of beeing told what to listen for. I heard the first part without looking at the lyrics, and I had no idea at all what he said. No problems hearing what he sang in the other part, while reading the lyrics.

  • oh this backwards... i see satan by the way. *puts pan on head and bangs with wooden spoons*

  • whats up with the language... its like arabiac asoomana sue

  • the reversed music is pretty cool

  • yup, thx for the comment hunter

  • Ahh, finally a song that actually DOES have Satan in it when backmasked that wasn't made up!

This is one of my favorite Opeth songs. :]

  • i think he said that whole "my sweet satan" thing as a joke to that stairway to heaven bullshit that people were sayin, lol

  • my sweet satan

  • lol wut?

  • pero que pelotudes!

  • WOW that is the fucking koolest thing ive ever heard in a opeth song...

im always telling people that theres all this stuff behind the music that you dont normally hear

makes me wonder if there are any other songs like that....

    well done dude

  • thx ! actually I found other reversed lyrics in other song,, I'm working on it,,totally fun ;)
