@ketutsantrawan Well, it's a possibility. On their tour last year, there was going to be a performance in Germany, but it couldn't be organized in time. I have a feeling they may be going to Europe again soon.

No, this is not the 'jewelry lady' Desak Nyoman Suarti Geni. However, you may not be aware that in the 1970s Suarti was one of Bali's leading dancers and the finest exponent of Tarunajaya. I saw her dance this in 1975: she was in a class of her own (I spent 5 years in Bali in the 1970s). She also founded Bali's first female gamalan orchestra and has worked hard to raise the economic and social status of women in Bali.
I wish this was the entire song. Still, it's nice to see Bu Desak (who, incidentally, was the person who taught me this song as my first song on the gamelan).
No, this is NOT the Desak Suarti who sells jewelry. This Desak Suarti teaches music and dance at ISI Denpasar, the national arts institute. She's one of the very few who can perform this demanding piece well.

A very versatile performance and very important culturally. I believe this is the same lady who sells jewelry on QVC once in a while, and she performs traditional dance at the end of the segments. She is amazing, thank you.
This is the hallmark of the "ultimate performer" - someone who can sing, dance, and play an instrument during the same occasion. I wonder why not many performing traditions in the world have established pieces like Palawakya. The only thing I can think of that comes close is the Tibetan lute dance, where the performer has to sing, dance, and play the melodic Tibetan lute (can't think of the name at the moment) simultaneously. Thanks for putting this on.
a master piece!!! i would love to see this group performs in germany

I can't believe someone would confuse Bu Desak here with the jewelry lady... That's not right.
