I am eternally grateful to department store CD bargain bins for first getting me into The Dream Academy. I'd heard of them a long time ago in a Japanese music magazine given to me by a family friend, but I'd never heard their music until I spied a copy of 'Remembrance Days' in the bargain bin, so I took a chance and bought it. I fell in love with that album, and picked up 'A Different Kind of Weather' from another bargain bin years later. Thanks for posting the video. :)
For some reason, Youtube took most of the Dream Academy videos (Lesson of Love, The Love Parade, Indian Summer) off YouTube claiming their was copyright infringement. What is funny is Nick and Gilbert want these videos out there and even link them from their websites.
And to NEVER forget, to You Gilbert Gabriel; TDA could never existed. Peace and love my man. You wore a great band and I'm sure that the fans will never forget.
I'll maybe send you one of my paintings one of these days, Nick Laird Clowes, I saw your Trashmonk .. A great followup to everything you've done. Keep it up, you're the right stuff. Peace and Love, Shadowplay :-)
I've always said that their first album was one of the five I'd need to have if I were stranded on a desert island. I agree; it's a pity that more people didn't take notice of their music.
This was a Korgi cover and interestingly enough has been rerecorded by Gilbert Gabriel this year under his new band, Chapel of Dreams. Check them out via the link above.
This is one of those rare bands that didn't get the recognition they should have. Also rare in the fact that every song on every record was great! Laurie again
Very nice indeed. I've had the cd remembrance days for 20 odd years, always enjoyed the instrumental phrasing and the vocals.
Pity the music industry ate itself before more inventive forms like this could be explored. Now everything is a sample of a sample or a 7 minute remix of a 3 minute single based on a 30 second commercial. Once music stood alone and was not used to promote or sell scads of other crap like mouthwash or cars. I remember that.
There is no video for the song "Waterloo" which is on their third album, "A Different Kind of Weather." Maybe someone can make their own video for "Waterloo" and post it here. Would be great to see.
Someone's made a video for it (no OFFICIAL video, I've so come to respect the do-it-yourselfers), you can find it by entering Waterloo - The Dream Academy.
I would have LOVED to have seen a video for "Waterloo" from this same final third album, as well as "Moving On" from the first, and "Here" from the second.
Fantastic. Thanks ever so much, Chris! One of my faves by TDA. Too bad they didn't do video clips for "Lucy September" and "Hampstead Girl", too. Keep posting the rare stuff. This one made my week.
Wow. Thank you so much for posting this ... have never seen it before.
All these years later I still can't believe TDA wasn't the supergroup of the 80s.

This is the first time I've seen this video. It's brilliant. I loved that last album. I think it's my fave album by them.

This album was produced by David Gilmour. Also you can hear his voice during the vocal only chorus.

This falls into one of the great unacknowledged groups from the 80's. Such a pity. I'm just glad I can enjoy them myself.

yup they sound like sprefab sprout actually

This must be the most under-acknowledged group of the 80s.

Great song and cd. Thank you for posting. Nick went on to repay Dave Gilmour by helping him write for Pink Floyd.

I was lucky enough to see this band live in 1990 in London when Dave Gilmour came on stage and played guitar with them.
