It's interesting the way the Doctor asks Dostevesky, "You really think you saw Jesus?" I think it is supposed to be, "You really think you saw God?"
It was probably changed for the more Christian American Audience.
It's usually angels, or God who you see in your mind, when faith is all you have left.
It could also be that the translator of the russian to english might have changed it years previously to their own bias.
