anyone got advice on how to travel with a cat from k to canada, including time in the airport i hink it will be roughly 11 to 12 hours, 9 for the fligt, should i walk my cat on a leash around the airport? and i am pretty sur emy cat can go the 12 hours without needing the litter box, as he often sleeps in my room until the morning sometimes i lie n and he never messes in my room.. any advice for me would be good, i am taking him onboard in a travel bag. not leash trained but he was ok with it..

I will try and let you know, still waiting for our appeal to go through. I think I am going to leave a towel inside the travel bag, and not feed him to much prior to the flight and feed him first thing as soon as he arrives over in canada.. i am pretty sure the cat will be unwilling to go in the travel bag unless it really cannot hold it in. but if it did i think there isnt anything we can do, except maybe check on it in the cabin toilets every couple of hours..

I also take my cat places on her harness, I've taken her to friend's houses and for a walk at the manmade pond thing. She loved it, she wouldn't walk with the leash attatched or with her harness done up which was fine I left it on her undone and she was fine. She listens extrordinarily well also, she was kind of "marco poloing" was really neat

Very cool video! Kitty is totally chillin' Unfortunately my cat Beechwood had such a rough start in his kitten life... He is terrified of children and anything fast moving or loud. Lucky for us he loves his petflys carrier and doesn't mind long car rides. Walking him on a leash would be dreamy but impossible... Thanks for sharing!

no he's drug free.. just a chill cat, he's 3 now and huge! still super cool... everybody loves Keegan.. he lives in Kansas City now and loves to catch snakes and moles but he still wakes us up in the morning purring and getting under the blankets, he acts more like a dog really. we lucked out with him, he's from the shelter. :)

They make you take animals out of carriers anyways and a harness is safer than trying to keep a cat in your arms.

Oh I agree about the harness. I can imagine a cat jumping out of arms. And then running off because people frantically trying to get her back makes her think it's a game.

I was really worried about a fellow passenger's cat who was taken away from the passenger to be put into a cage with the luggage. Coming into the country, the cat had been allowed into the passenger cabin, but going out again, the rule changed. The passenger and I spent the whole trip in a state of worry about how the cat was.

Since when? I've never traveled with a pet before but I would have assumed they just let the animals stay in the carriers to prevent incidents (like losing one in the airport) during short layovers.

Of course on a longer layover it might make sense to let the animal out... but right in the airport? They ought to provide quiet, pet-friendly areas. The cat looks interested and not in pain or scared, but even so...
