  • oh man... thats rough. if only that guitar had been restored 20 years ago.

  • I have a ESP m 307 and I want to make the horns pointed instead of rounded what do you suggest?

  • can u send me a message with ur phone number i have a les paul restoration i wanted to talk to u about

  • hey ged! briliant work! let me ask you something, could you take a look in some pictures and give me an opinion about a neck? i got this 60's l7 wich got a knee around the 14th fret so im not sure if the truss rod could work or if is case to remove the fret board. please let me know your email if possible! thank you so much for your time!

  • RENEVATE A GUITAR I THOUGHT YOU BRITISH RENEVATE HOUSES?

  • very interesting video! and I love that british accent :-)

    greetings from italy...

  • That is interesting to watch. Having to drill holes thru the fretboard to get the neck off! But very clever!

Always interesting (and dismaying) to compare guitar construction to violin construction---the former often seems to be designed as a "throw-away" which I suppose is true...mass-produced and all.

Do you find that the more modern glues (aliphatics) which replaced hide glue for production work make repair more difficult?

  • Brilliant work! Do you need a 38 yr old apprentice? haha..

  • If only I could afford an assistant !!!!!

  • @Gedric2009 if i lived anywhere near you id be your assistant for free but sadly i live near Birmingham.

  • Will you make videos of this repair?

  • @jonnyburgo sorry mate, this 44 year old woodworker from central scotland`s 1st in line! love watchin things like this-brilliant. the wife and kids are watchin the apprentice right now! I`d rather have sharpened bamboo pushed into my eyes! while they watch thier crap on tv (britains got talent- no it bloody well doesn`t!!)

I watch cool interesting stuff like this. big thanks to Gedric for posting.

  • Hi. Tom again here. The nut is about 0.5 mm skewed against the high E string. I'm afraid to damage the guitarneck if i remove the nut with all that glue under it. Do you think I need to remove it when its only 0.5 mm skewed? notice anything when I play it like it is. Again Thanks!

  • Nice video. Have a few questions if you can help me....

I changed the old nut on my Les Paul with a Graphtech nut. I was recommended to use superglue to glue it on. It came on a bit wrong (a bit skewed against the high E string. Du you have an idea how i can get it off? (it is a lot of glue under the nut.) Want to make my neck smoother. (sand off a bit of the lacquer so my hands doesnt hang on to it). What do you recommend to use? (sorry my bad english). Thanks.

    Tom

  • Sounds like you have used too much superglue, you should be able to tap the nut and the glue line break, if you have used lots of glue it won't. The only safe way to remove it - put a saw slot down the top of the nut (vertical) and then crush the nut in on itself - or better still take it to someone who works with guitars professionally. Don't take the finish off the back of the neck - rub it down with OOOO wire wool, then add some guitar polish, this will remove the sticky feel of the neck

  • @Gedric2009

acetone dissolves superglue, but I suppose acetone is considered an arch-fiend near the guitar's finish...

  • this is amzing thanx for the video..do you know this man personally?

  • Have you filmed the rest of this restoration? I'd love to see it. Amazing. This is nicely filmed and you are very relaxed and informative.

  • hey i can't find on your site what it looks like finished?

  • Had a problem with my site a while back and had to re-build it with old info - still in the process of loading it back in, I'll try get the finished photos back up soon.

  • Nice video. Very informative.

I have a 1972 SG Pro that would need a neck reset. Do you know how I can remove the neck on it. Would this technique work on a SG?

    Thanks.

  • You could but I would be careful, the main problem with an SG Pro is the front pickup route takes away so much of the wood around the joint I havent seen one of these that doesnt look like the body has bent behind the neck joint . If you want to get the neck off and try and re-align it try going into the joint inside the pickup cavity, the end of the neck should be visible inside the cavity - drill the holes into the glue line and force the steam in!.

  • Thank you very much for for the advice and for taking the time to answer. It's appreciated!
