  • R.I.P. Phelps

  • R.I.P. Catfish!

  • Why can´t he shut his mouth for a few seconds an let the guy on the vox ultrasonic play his solo?

    arrghh...

  • @jemen1709 I basically agree with you but I have too much class to denigrate the great one with petty criticisms such as yours.

  • @jemen1709 This ain't a jazz gig & 99.9% of the world's population couldn't give a shit what brand of guitar he's playing. 'The guy' by the way, is the great Phelps 'Catfish" Collins who sadly died less than a year ago.

  • That's how rhythm guitar is supposed be played ......Jam ! Catfish

  • I have never seen anything like that

  • rip it catfish

  • RIP Catfish

  • One cannot sit still while listening to this ! Good god !!

  • Like to find the whole video. Did you hear Bootsy? Lol

  • I've heard a cover of that in The Mack! It was the Players Ball scene!

  • That's a Bad Bad Man! Ohio knows how to bring the Funk. Good lord, it's like, if you wanna witness God reaching through someone's hands and giving the world a gift, just listen to the brothers Collins. We've truly lost an American Treasure. He will be missed. Let each tear fall in between the beats, and let Catfish know who brought the funk.

  • Rest in Peace Catfish. I remember listening to you and JB in the 1970s at the West Coast Relays in Fresno California on KLIP 1220 AM Soul Radio.

  • Great video, thanks for posting.

    RIP Phelps 'Catfish' Collins.

  • Mr. Rhythm Guitar!

  • Great artist, don't die, they fade into the future generations; piece by piece, alittle of Catfish into the future artist of tomorrow.

  • Condolences to Bootsy and family.

  • RIP Mr. Catfish, more guitar players today need to listen and go back and get the funk basics.

  • r.i.p catfish forever missed!!!fly on

  • Rest in peace, Phelps. Always loved your music, and stage presence. Thanks!

  • Paris, 1971? I wonder if Jim Morrison was at this show... :-)

  • R>I>P> Catfish, jam on with James.

  • resound in peace catfish!! for eva & eva

  • R.I.P. CATFISH!!!

  • R.I.P....another FUNKATEER passes to the great beyond. It's been a rough few years--THIS year in particular--for FUNK and SOUL. :-(

Our heroes are dying...and what are we left with TODAY? It depresses me to think about it.

I take solace, though, in the fact that although his earthly body has expired...he has a LEGACY that lives on!

  • @Odawg96 yes it has been a rough rough year for the gods of funk

  • R.I.P. Catfish.

  • @SixSevenEightyThree Now and forever...one of the baddest cats to pick up the axe. Give the Lord some, Catfish! RIP.

  • Catfish is the high end of funk .. and Boot got da rest ,, thats my folks

  • The first time I saw these guys on TV, I was a kid in the 80's, and my parents were watching some show that had a clip of a live show of the JB's where Bootsy and Catfish each did a solo. I remember dropping everything to watch in awe the raw clip from the early 70's. Honestly, it changed my life. No other band could ever come close to this one that lasted less than a year. I could watch this over and over all day long.

  • anybody know WHAT SONG that is coming off from???

  • @XrisSmiles "Ain't It Funky"

  • Awesome.

  • Yeah! Phelps is great. I really like his work on Bootsy's albums. Funky as we like it.

    Thanks for the video.

  • Now THAT'S music. Check out Fela Kuti filmed by Ginger Baker Africa 70. James Brown and Band went to Nigeria for the Mohammad Ali-Joe Frazier fight and influenced the locals with this funk sound. See where Fela went with it. It is now called "Afro Funk" Mind blowing.

  • wow!!

  • Where is catfish?

  • HOW TO PLAY FUNK.

  • You mean, how to play FONK! 'Cause that riff Brother Catfish layin' down is STANKIN'!!!!

  • He killed it

  • The Collins Bros. doin The Neck...LOL!

  • I saw James Brown at the Grande Theatre in Biloxi, MS back in 1997. One of the best shows I ever saw! The week after that show, I heard on the news that he was busted for "possesion of Marijuana"...not too surprising. Well, ol' James will be missed.

  • Poor bastard died on Christmas day :(

He Will be missed, but his legacy will live for generations to come.

  • Thats that GEORGIA FUNK!

  • DID anyone notice bootsy collins on bass ?

  • DUHHHHHHH!

  • DUHHHHHHH!

  • I absolutely love this solo and could listen to this for hours.

  • Catfish's Guitar is a Vox Ultrasonic (with built-in effects !)

  • haha...u must have read wikepedia also

  • Me too

  • Do you have the rest of this with Bootsy's killer solo?

  • Every member of that band is a funk legend. I love how at the end they're all moving in sync like bad ass motherf****rs.

  • What a beautiful Guitar Sound

  • james brown doesnt have a big vocabulary when he sings but gddamn i love that guy, i still like bootsy better but catfish deserves some praise.

  • Actually it's a September 1971 concert in Paris (Olympia). The song is "ain't it funky now"...

The whole thing is absolute dynamite, you can get an audio version ... search for "love, power, peace"

  • Can't get enough of this video

James Brown rules RIP you da man

What's the song that begins a few seconds before the end ?

  • Phan-Phunkin-Tastik!!!

  • Catfish has got to be one of the most t quick and talented rythm guitar players of all time. Bootsy is a bad mutha, but his older brother always kept down a hard and repetitive groove for a long time. (Ex. Bop Gun, Flashlight both feature Phelps on rythm)

  • I'm pretty sure that Garry Shider is the rhythm guitarist on Bop Gun. He is also one of the co-writer of the track, along Bootsy and George Clinton.
