@jemen1709 This ain't a jazz gig & 99.9% of the world's population couldn't give a shit what brand of guitar he's playing. 'The guy' by the way, is the great Phelps 'Catfish" Collins who sadly died less than a year ago.
That's a Bad Bad Man! Ohio knows how to bring the Funk. Good lord, it's like, if you wanna witness God reaching through someone's hands and giving the world a gift, just listen to the brothers Collins. We've truly lost an American Treasure. He will be missed. Let each tear fall in between the beats, and let Catfish know who brought the funk.
I am going party hard like Catfish would have wanted it! I am going to jam and funk out everything by bootsy! Party on.....RIP Prayers to the FAMILY! MUCH LOVE!
The first time I saw these guys on TV, I was a kid in the 80's, and my parents were watching some show that had a clip of a live show of the JB's where Bootsy and Catfish each did a solo. I remember dropping everything to watch in awe the raw clip from the early 70's. Honestly, it changed my life. No other band could ever come close to this one that lasted less than a year. I could watch this over and over all day long.
Now THAT'S music. Check out Fela Kuti filmed by Ginger Baker Africa 70. James Brown and Band went to Nigeria for the Mohammad Ali-Joe Frazier fight and influenced the locals with this funk sound. See where Fela went with it. It is now called "Afro Funk" Mind blowing.
I saw James Brown at the Grande Theatre in Biloxi, MS back in 1997. One of the best shows I ever saw! The week after that show, I heard on the news that he was busted for "possesion of Marijuana"...not too surprising. Well, ol' James will be missed.
Catfish has got to be one of the most t quick and talented rythm guitar players of all time. Bootsy is a bad mutha, but his older brother always kept down a hard and repetitive groove for a long time. (Ex. Bop Gun, Flashlight both feature Phelps on rythm)

@jemen1709 I basically agree with you but I have too much class to denigrate the great one with petty criticisms such as yours.

R.I.P....another FUNKATEER passes to the great beyond. It's been a rough few years--THIS year in particular--for FUNK and SOUL. :-(
Our heroes are dying...and what are we left with TODAY? It depresses me to think about it.
I take solace, though, in the fact that although his earthly body has expired...he has a LEGACY that lives on!

I'm pretty sure that Garry Shider is the rhythm guitarist on Bop Gun. He is also one of the co-writer of the track, along Bootsy and George Clinton.
